INTRODUCTION
We would like to thank you for the confidence you have placed in Jaeger-
LeCoultre. Our Maison has applied all its expertise and exacting standards to
the creation of this model. We invite you to consult the operating
instructions and hope your Jaeger-LeCoultre timepiece brings you great joy.
ACCURACY AND PRECAUTIONS FOR USE MANUALLY-WOUND OR AUTOMATIC MECHANICAL
WATCHES
The accuracy of watch models with mechanical movements is determined by the
balance wheel. This oscillates at a rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour.
Despite all the care that the master watchmakers of the Jaeger-LeCoultre
Manufacture have lavished on building and assembling your watch, its accuracy
is subject to the influence of gravity, magnetic fields, accidental impacts,
and the ageing of the oils. The accuracy of a watch is measured by its
regularity of rate in various positions. Your individual activities could be
the cause of slight irregularities in the working of your timepiece. If you
observe a discrepancy in the way your watch runs, we advise you to entrust it
to an authorised Jaeger- LeCoultre retailer who will make the necessary
adjustments. Watches with mechanical movements must not be used for sports
involving significant risk of impact or abrupt actions, such as golf or
tennis.
WATER RESISTANCE
Your Jaeger-LeCoultre watch is water- resistant to 5 bar. Its water resistance can be identified by the symbol and/or the engraving: “5 bar” on the caseback. This means that your model has been tested at an overpressure of 5 bar, corre- sponding to an immersion pressure of 50 metres (1 bar = ±10 metres). In accordance with the ISO 22810/NIHS 92-20 standard, in order to guarantee the durability of the watch’s characteristics over time, and as water resistance may be affected by certain activities, it is recommended that you:
- have the watch’s water resistance checked by an authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer at least once every two years. It is essential to have such a check carried out each time your watch is opened, and before any period in which it is liable to undergo prolonged and/or regular immersions.
- check when making the purchase that the bracelet is suitable for the intended use.
- avoid subjecting the watch to excessively abrupt temperature changes.
- protect the watch from being dropped or suffering other accidental impacts, and have the water resistance checked after any severe impact.
- avoid using the controls, push-piece, or time-setting crown while under water, or outside the water, if the watch is not yet dry after immersion.
- restore the time-setting crown and the push-pieces to their normal positions, (or where applicable, close the compression keys) after every manipulation.
- rinse the watch with fresh water after use in sea water.
You may use your watch while swimming as long as you do not exceed the immersion pressure and do not engage in any water sports that could cause impacts. This watch is not a piece of diving equipment and should not be used as such. Also, note that leather straps are not suited for aquatic activities.
“1000 HOURS CONTROL” TEST
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Manufacture pays close attention to the quality and to the final checks of its watches. The 1000 Hours Control is a series of internal qualification tests for each of the models in our collection, as well as inter- nal tests on the production of your watch, which go beyond official timing tests. These tests include checks of the movement before and after being cased up in the watch and cover the whole watch once it has been assembled, in the conditions closest to daily wear. The “1000 Hours Control” legend, or the “ ” seal engraved on the back of the watch certifies that each of the models from our collection has successfully undergone all of the qualification tests, and that your watch has successfully undergone all of the production tests. These ensure regularity of rate, resistance to variations in temperature and atmospheric pressure, ability to withstand shocks and magnetic fields, as well as water resistance.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
- Manually wound mechanical movement, Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 381 Dual-Wing
- 21,600 vibrations/hour.
- Power reserve of the regulator: approximately 50 hours.
- Power reserve of the functions: approximately 50 hours.
MOVEMENT
Jaeger- LeCoultre Calibre 381.
Important note regarding the power reserves of the Calibre 381 Dual-Wing.
The Dual-Wing movement of the Duomètre Quantième Lunaire watch model
features two barrels. The first barrel provides the watch’s regulator
(regulating organ) with 50 hours of power reserve. The second barrel, which is
independent from the first, provides all the watch’s functions with 50 hours
of power reserve. The functions, thus, do not cause any loss of energy or
isochronism in the escapement. The regulator’s power reserve is indicated by
the blue triangle positioned between 7 and 8 o’clock. The functions’ power re-
serve is indicated by the blue triangle positioned between 4 and 5 o’clock. In
both cases, the power reserve is at its maximum when the triangle is
positioned opposite the “50” symbol. As energy is consumed, the triangle will
gradually point towards the “0” symbol. When the triangle is opposite the “0”
symbol (after approximately 50 hours for both the escapement and the
functions), this indicates that the power reserve has been exhausted. This is
the last chance to wind up the watch without losing the settings. Both barrels
can be wound using crown, in position 0. To wind the escapement barrel (and
conse-quently its power reserve), turn the crown clockwise. To wind the
functions barrel (and consequently its power reserve), turn the crown anti-
clockwise.
Important:
Although the two power reserves are independent, it is vital that both are
wound before the timepiece can be used. If one of the power reserves is
depleted, the movement will stop (no damage will be caused to the movement).
It will thus be necessary to wind the two power reserves according to the
instructions to restart the calibre.
IDENTIFYING THE SECONDS HANDS
The Duomètre Quantième Lunaire watch features two seconds displays. The first
is the central hand, while the second is the jumping seconds hand at 6
o’clock, which gives an indication to 1/6th of a second.
STARTING THE WATCH
Crown in position 0.
The watch is started by turning the crown clockwise to wind the escapement
power reserve and anti-clockwise to wind the functions barrel. The watch is
fully wound when the two power reserve hands have reached the “50” symbol.
There is no stop to tell you that the movement has been fully wound, as excess
winding is ab-sorbed by a slipping spring. This prevents damage to the gear-
train.
SETTING THE TIME
The Duomètre Quantième Lunaire watch fea-tures a unique resetting mechanism
for the seconds and jumping seconds hands, called the “jumping stop-seconds”.
This enables the two hands to be reset by the crown and for the time to be set
on the watch once an hour signal sounds to a precision of 1/6th of a second.
Pull crown out to position 1. The jumping seconds hand returns to zero and
stops in preparation for the time-setting operation. Note that the escapement
continues to function, thanks to its dedicated power reserve. Its isochronism
is undisturbed. Pull crown out to position 2. The central seconds hand returns
to zero in turn and stops in preparation for the time-setting operation. Note
that the escapement continues to function thanks to its dedi-cated power
reserve. Its isochronism is undisturbed. Release the crown, which returns
automatically to position 1. The two seconds hands are locked at 0. Note that
the escapement continues to function thanks to its dedicated power reserve.
Proceed to set the hours and minutes and, on the hour signal, push the crown
back into position 0. The watch starts running again.
SETTING THE DATE
The Duomètre Quantième Lunaire watch displays the date with a hand positioned
at 9 o’clock. It is corrected using a push- piece at 10 o’clock(A), which
allows oneday jumps.
SETTING THE MOON PHASE
The Duomètre Quantième Lunaire watch indicates the moon phases of the northern
hemisphere in an aperture.
In order to correct the moon phases, press the moon phase corrector positioned
in the horn gap at 12 o’clock(B) using the corrector tool provided. Each press
moves the disc one day forward. In order to correct the moon phases
accurately, calculate the number of days that have elapsed since the last full
moon using the calendar at the end of this user manual and, using the
corrector provided, centre the moon in the aperture, then move the disc
forwards according to the number of days that have elapsed since the last full
moon.
Note: Date correction should not be performed between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m.
This is because the automatic date-change mechanism is already in action
between these times.
