How to lend a hand with a sensor arm insertion
Does your loved one with diabetes need a hand with inserting their
sensor?
Here are a few tips for how you can help support and make them feel like a
champion!
Use protective barriers:
Wear latex gloves to ensure a clean process.
Stabilize the sensor:
After the sensor is inserted and the inserter is removed, hold the base of the
sensor firmly to prevent movement.
Remove the needle:
Using a piece of gauze, hold the needle housing and pull straight out. The
needle will retract into the housing.
Flatten the adhesive pad:
Make sure the adhesive pad lies flat against the skin.
Apply the oval tape:
Place the wide part of the Oval Tape over the round part of the sensor.
Attach the transmitter:
Click the transmitter into place and cover it with the thin white adhesive
strip.
Apply the second oval tape:
Apply a second piece of Oval Tape in the opposite direction of the first.
Additional coverage:
You may be asked to place an extra piece of tape over the entire site for added security or for added coverage.
Encourage and support:
Give your loved one a pat on the back. Living with diabetes and asking for
help isn’t always easy!
