Interlink the detectors
Connect the Aroha Smart Connect & Link Smoke Detector to Aroha Link Smoke, Aroha Link Carbon Monoxide and Aroha Link Combination detectors. You only need one Aroha Smart Connect & Link Smoke Detector per interlinked group: As the detectors will be interlinked, you will receive notification within the app on your mobile phone via the Aroha Smart Connect & Link Smoke Detector. Interlink the Aroha Link detectors before connecting the Aroha Smart Connect & Link Smoke Detector to the app on your mobile phone.
Instructions to interlink detectors
- Activate the transmit mode of 1 detector by pressing the test button 4 times within 1 second. If this is done correctly, the green LED will flash rapidly for 1 minute. Within this minute you can connect the smoke detector to other connectable detectors.
- Press the test button of the other detector(s) twice within 1 second. This detector goes into reception mode and the green LED will flash slowly to confirm this. If pairing is successful, the green LED on the receiving detector(s) will stop flashing.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Maximum interlinked detectors: 30 Aroha Link smoke, CO and combination detectors can be interlinked in 1 group.
- Detector sounds an alarm: The test mode is activated as the test button was not pressed fast enough. After the alarm stops, try pressing the test button again 4 times as quickly as possible within 1 second.
- Connection fails: The green LED will continue to flash for 1 minute, followed by a red LED for 2 seconds to indicate that the connection was not successful. In that case, start the pairing process again.
- Test detectors: The detectors have a transmission range of 100 meters without obstructions, such as walls, ceilings, doors and windows. After installation, you can test whether all detectors are properly connected to each other by pressing the test button of 1 detector; then all test alarms from all linked detectors will also sound. See chapter E for more information.
- Unlinking: Press the test button on the detector twice within 1 second and the green LED will slowly flash for 60 seconds (receiving mode). After this period, it will stop flashing and the alarm is unlinked.
Connect the Smoke Smart Connect & Link Smoke Detector to your mobile phone
- A 2.4 GHz WiFi network is required to connect. If your network broadcasts on both 2.4 and 5 GHz, disable 5 GHz during the pairing process (as per your router manual).
- Install the Tuya Smart- or Smart Life-app on your smartphone by scanning the QR-code
- Enable Bluetooth via settings on your phone. The app also needs permission to use Bluetooth.
- Activate pairing mode by pressing the test button 3 times within 1 second of the Aroha Smart Connect & Link Smoke Detector (with the WiFi-logo on the back). If this is done correctly, the red LED will flash rapidly. After a few seconds this will change to a green LED that flashes rapidly for 1 minute. Within this minute you can connect the detector to your app.
- Click on the “+” in the top right corner of the app home screen. Then choose “Add device”, as you see in Figure 1. The app will now automatically look for devices that are in pairing mode. Follow the steps as described in the app. If the app itself does not yet have permission to use Bluetooth, click on the notification and follow the steps to allow the app to access Bluetooth as you see in Figure 2.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Alarm: If an alarm sounds when you try to activate pairing mode, a test is activated because you did not press fast enough. After the alarm stops, try pressing the test button again 3 times as quickly as possible within 1 second.
- Low battery: The first time the detector is connected, the app may incorrectly report that the battery is low. Push the test button or disconnect the smoke detector and then reconnect it. If the notification is given again by the app, please contact us.
Test your alarm
In addition to certification according to NEN standards by TÜV, the detector has been tested in a specially designed room in the factory. You can test the detector yourself by pressing the test button (= center front of the detector), after which the 85 dB alarm sounds. The alarm on the detector and all interlinked detectors will sound, including a notification on your connected phone.
- If there is no sound from the tested detector, refer to the “Trouble shooting” section.
- If there is no sound from the interlinked detectors, repeat the interlinking-process as described in chapter C.
- If there is no notification on your connected phone, repeat the connecting-process as described in Chapter D.
CAUTION
- DO NOT test your detector using an open flame. This may damage the detector or ignite combustible materials and start a structural fire.
- DO NOT stand close to the detector when the alarm is sounding. Exposure at close range may be harmful to your ears.
- Test the detector at least once a month.
Silence mode
Silence mode should only be used if the source of the alarm is known and safe.
Press the test button (= centre front of detector) to set the silence mode.
During silence mode, the red LED flashes once every 8 seconds. The detector is
automatically reset after 10 minutes.
CAUTION
Before using the silence mode, identify the source of the smoke and be certain
a safe condition exists.
Mount the detector
Determine correct mounting location
- Check figure 3, 4 and 5 for correct mounting locations. Most EU countries require smoke detectors on all floors and escape routes.
- Smoke spreads horizontally after rising to the ceiling, so install the detector in middle of the ceiling.
- If the length of the room or the hall is beyond 10 meters, you need to install multiple alarms.
Figure 3: Recommended mounting locations
- Make sure your mounting locations are within reach of other interlinked Aroha Link detectors and the Aroha Smart Connect & Link Smoke Detector is within range of the 2.4 GHz-WiFi network. The detectors have a transmission range of 100 meters without obstructions, such as walls, ceilings, doors and windows.
Do not mount detector on these locations
- Areas with high-humidity (e.g. kitchens, bathrooms), insects, dust/dirt, easily polluted and high-temperature.
- Within 1.5 meters of lamps, next to air outlets (e.g. doors/windows), fans and central heating.
- In top of room with sloping roofs, in the corner of the room or other dead-air spaces.
- Places with difficult access, making it difficult to operate the test function.
Mounting instructions
- Twist the mounting bracket counterclockwise off the detector.
- Put the bracket on the mounting position and mark the 2 screw holes.
- Drill two 5mm mounting holes, insert the two plastic anchor plugs by hammer, and screw the mounting bracket to the ceiling or the wall.
- Attach the detector to the mounting bracket and turn clockwise to lock the detector.
Maintenance and cleaning
There are a few steps you need do to keep it working properly:
- Test the detector at least once a month.
- Do not paint the detector. Paint will seal the vents and interferes with the sensors functionality.
- Never attempt to disassemble the detector to clean inside. This will damage the detector and possibly render it unusable.
- Clean the detector at least once a month to remove dust, dirt or debris. Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush and vacuum all sides and covers of the detector.
Trouble shooting
- The detector does not sound when testing: Check whether the smoke detector is activated. The detector beeps every 56 seconds and red LED flashes: The battery is low; the detector needs to be replaced. Contact us to replace it if the warranty is still in place.
- The detector beeps every 40 seconds: Clean the smoke detector, by using a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush and vacuum all sides and covers of the smoke detector. If the issue continues, the detector is malfunctioning. Contact us to replace it if the warranty is still in place.
- False alarms triggered intermittently or when residents are cooking, taking showers, etc.: Check whether there is any danger from smoke and/or fire nearby. Once danger has been ruled out, press the test button to set the silent mode. To prevent future false alarms, clean and maintain the smoke detector as directed. Also consider installing the smoke detector in a different location if it gives a false alarm due to water vapor.
Two years of warranty
During the specified warranty period of 2 years after purchase, we will repair
or replace any defective detector that is returned. This warranty shall not
apply to the detector if it has been damaged, modified, neglected, abused, or
altered after the date of purchase or if it fails to operate due to improper
maintenance, and the unit will not be replaced or repaired. Please contact us
regarding the warranty.
The manufacturer shall have no liability for any personal injury, property
damage, or any special, incidental, contingent, or consequential damage of any
kind resulting from gas leakage, smoke, fire, or explosion.
