Manual Aroha Link Combination Detector
Please read the manual carefully to ensure safe, proper use and store it in a
safe place for future reference. Scan the QR-code or visit
www.aroha.nl/manual for the step-by-step instructions
with video to safely install your detector and consult the FAQ.
A. Activate/Deactivate the detector
The device is deactivated by default before leaving our factory.
Before the detector can be used, it must be activated with the switch on the
back. Twist the mounting bracket counterclockwise off the detector by aligning
the lines (Figure 1).
Power on: Set the switch on the back of the detector to “ON”.
Power off: Set the switch on the back of the detector to “OFF”.
CAUTION
- The installation instructions must be followed strictly to avoid unsafe conditions.
- Do not paint your detector.
- The battery cannot be replaced; do not try to replace the battery as this will render the detector unusable and can cause a fire due to the high-capacity lithium battery.
B. Interlink the detectors
Step 1: Activate the transmit mode of 1 detector by pressing the test
button 4 times within 1 second. If this is done correctly, the green LED will
flash rapidly for 1 minute. Within this minute you can connect the smoke
detector to other connectable detectors.
Step 2: Press the test button of the other detector(s) twice within 1
second. This detector goes into reception mode and the green LED light will
flash slowly to confirm this. If pairing is successful, the green LED light on
the receiving smoke detector(s) will stop flashing.
Optional: Upgrade your setup with an alarm notification on your phone by adding the Smart Connect & Link Smoke Detector to your interlinked group. Shop now on www.aroha.nl.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Maximum interlinked detectors: 30 Aroha Link smoke, CO and combination detectors can be interlinked in 1 group.
- Detector sounds an alarm : The test mode is activated as the test button was not pressed fast enough. After the alarm stops, try pressing the test button again 4 times as quickly as possible within 1 second.
- Connection fails: The green LED will continue to flash for 1 minute, followed by a red LED for 2 seconds to indicate that the connection was not successful. In that case, start the pairing process again.
- Test detectors : The detectors have a transmission range of 100 meters without obstructions, such as walls, ceilings, doors and windows. After installation, you can test whether all detectors are properly connected to each other by pressing the test button of 1 detector; then all test alarms from all linked detectors will also sound.
- Unlinking: Press the test button on the detector twice within 1 second and the green LED will slowly flash for 60 seconds (receiving mode). After this period, it will stop flashing and the alarm is unlined.
C. Test your alarm
Test the detector to ensure proper operation by pressing the test button (= centre front of detector). The alarm will sound if the detector is working well. If there is no sound, refer to the “Trouble shooting” section. If there is no sound from the connected detectors, repeat the interlinking-prices as described in chapter B.
CAUTION
- DO NOT test your detector using an open flame. This may damage the detector or ignite combustible materials and start a structural fire.
- Test the detector at least once a month.
- DO NOT stand close to the detector when the alarm is sounding. Exposure at close range may be harmful to your ears.
D. LED indicators
Mode | LED | Audible alarm/beep |
---|---|---|
Standby | Green, 1x every 56 seconds | |
Smoke alarm | Red, 3x every 3 seconds | 3x every 3 seconds |
CO alarm | Red, 4x every 4 seconds | 4x every 4 seconds |
Test | Red, 3x long, 4x quick 2 times | 3x long, 4x quick 2 times |
Silence | Red, 1x every 8 seconds | |

Fault status | Orange, 2x every 40 seconds | 2x every 40 seconds |
End of life | Orange, 3x every 56 seconds | 3x every 56 seconds |
E. Carbon monoxide alarm
If an carbon monoxide (CO) alarm signal sounds, immediately move to fresh air
and do not reenter the premises until it has been aired out and your alarm
returns to its normal condition.
Investigate the source of the CO release and repair the defect.
When does the alarm sound?
50 ppm: Alarm between 60 to 90 minutes
100 ppm : Alarm between 10 and 40 minutes
300 ppm: Alarm within 3 minutes
CAUTION
NEVER IGNORE ANY ALARM. Smoke is visible, but carbon monoxide is not and
can be deadly.
F. Silence mode
Silence mode should only be used if the source of the alarm is known and safe. Press the test button (= centre front of detector) to set the silence mode. During silence mode, the red LED light flashes once every 8 seconds. The detector is automatically reset after 10 minutes.
CAUTION
Before using the silence mode, identify the source of the smoke and/or CO
and be certain a safe condition exists. If the source is unknown, it should be
assumed that the alarm is due to dangerous levels of CO
G. Mount the detector
**Determine correct mounting location
Figure 2: Recommended mounting locations**
A combination detector is a smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector in
one. Smoke rises and carbon monoxide spreads through the air. Due to this
difference, the ideal mounting location depends entirely on your situation.
- Check figure 2 and 3 for correct mounting locations. Most EU countries require smoke detectors on all floors and escape routes.
- Smoke spreads horizontally after rising to the ceiling, so install the detector in middle of the ceiling.
- If the length of the room or the hall is beyond 10 meters, you need to install multiple (smoke) alarms.
- In rooms with a combustion appliance, place the detector at a horizontal distance between 1-3 meters from the CO source.
**Do not mount detector on these locations
Figure 3: Recommended mounting locations**
- Areas with high-humidity (e.g. kitchens, bathrooms), insects, dust/dirt, easily polluted and high-temperature.
- Within 1.5 meters of lamps, next to air outlets (e.g. doors/windows), fans and central heating.
- In top of room with sloping roofs, in the corner of the room or other dead-air spaces.
- Places with difficult access, making it difficult to operate the test function.
Mounting instructions
Step 1: Twist the mounting bracket counterclockwise off the detector by
aligning the lines (Figure 1).
Step 2: Put the bracket in the mounting position and mark the 2 screw
holes. Drill two 5mm mounting holes and insert the two plastic anchor plugs by
hammer. Screw the mounting bracket to the ceiling or the wall.
Step 3 : Attach the detector to the mounting bracket and turn clockwise
to lock the detector.
H. Maintenance and cleaning
There are a few steps you need do to keep it working properly:
- Test the detector at least once a month.
- Do not paint the detector. Paint will seal the vents and interfere with the sensor’s ability to detect smoke and/or CO.
- Never attempt to disassemble the detector to clean inside. This will damage the detector and possibly render it unusable.
- Clean the detector at least once a month to remove dust, dirt or debris. Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush and vacuum all sides and covers of the detector.
- Some materials, vapours or gases, can affect the reliability of the alarms in the short or long term. Ethylene, ethanol, alcohol, iso-propranolol, benzene, toluene, ethyl acetate, hydrogen, hydrogen sulphide and sulphur dioxide are substances that at high levels can damage the sensor or cause temporary readings that are not CO readings. Also most aerosol sprays, alcohol based products, paint, thinner, solvent, adhesive, hair spray, after shave, perfume, auto exhaust (cold start) and some cleaning agents.
I. Trouble shooting
- The detector does not sound when testing: Check whether the switch on the back of the detector is in the “ON” position.
- False alarms triggered intermittently or when residents are cooking, taking showers, etc.: Check whether there is any danger from smoke or CO nearby. Once danger has been ruled out, press the test button to set the silent mode. To prevent future false alarms, clean and maintain the smoke detector as directed. Also consider installing the smoke detector in a different location if it gives a false alarm due to water vapor, for example.
- Alarms, beeps and/or LED lights: See LED indicator chapter.
