Instructions for Epoxy Resin Mixing and Pouring
Safety First!
Ensure that your workplace is well-ventilated to promote proper air
circulation. If necessary, wear a respirator mask to protect yourself from
inhaling fumes. Before handling the epoxy resin, wear finger cots or gloves to
protect your hands.
Mixing 200g Resin (Example here is 3:1 mix ratio by weight; please check the
label on the bottle before proceeding with mixing):
1. Place a measuring cup on the scale and zero the scale. 2. Open Part A
resin bottle and carefully pour resin into the measuring cup until it weighs
150g. 3. Open Part B hardener bottle and pour it into the same measuring cup
until the total weight reaches
200g. This should result in a 3:1 ratio by weight (150g Part A resin and 50g
Part B hardener). 4. Slowly stir the resin and hardener together using
stirring sticks for at least 3 minutes. Scrape the
bottom and sides of your measuring cup as you stir to ensure the entire
mixture catalyzes and that there is no remaining unmixed resin or hardener
stuck to the sides that may prevent a proper cure. Not stirring properly will
result in a sticky resin that will never cure. 5. Transfer the mixed resin
into another measuring cup of the same size, stirring thoroughly and scraping
the cup’s bottom and sides. 6. Allow the resin to rest for 10-15 minutes. 7.
If desired, add resin dye, glitter, gold leaf, or sequins to the resin
mixture. Stir gently if necessary. 8. Pour the resin into your desired moulds.
9. For smaller molds, consider using a plastic dropper for more precise
pouring. 10. Allow the resin to dry for 24-48 hours. Avoid touching the resin
during this time to prevent leaving fingerprints. 11. Carefully remove the
cured piece from the mold.
12. If needed, use a sanding strip to smooth out any rough edges or
imperfections.
