Product Usage Instructions

Disassembly:

Before starting the installation process, ensure you have the necessary tools available:

  • Torx T20 driver
  • Torx T30 driver
  • 10mm Socket
  • Ratchet
  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • Pry Tool
  • Drill
  • 1/8 inch (.125) Drill Bit

Follow these steps to disassemble the required components:

  1. 1. Remove the trailer hitch from the receiver if installed prior to opening the tailgate.
  2. Open the tailgate and step. Remove the screws securing the tailgate protector and remove it. Remove the bolts securing the step and rotate it forward to rest on the tailgate.

Installation:

Proceed with installing the amplifier and related components by following these steps:

  1. 1. Loosen the bolts securing the tailgate handle and remove the wire retainers indicated.
  2. Install the supplied threaded clips and amplifier mounting bracket. Re-attach wire retainers to the amplifier bracket ensuring no wires are pinched.

Wiring and Connections:

Connect the amplifier harness to the amplifier and the four-pin connector to the tilt switch attached to the amplifier bracket. Route the harness along the factory harness toward the passenger side. Ensure proper connections are made to avoid any battery drain
issues or warranty voiding.

Final Steps:

Disconnect the negative battery cable before continuing. Route the amplifier harness along the factory harness to the underneath side of the bed near the back side of the trailer connector. Install the T-harness between the trailer connector and factory harness, connecting it to the amplifier harness. Install foam onto both sides of the speaker baffle.

    • A: Light kits (GM part number: 84347814) can be purchased separately from any GM dealership.
  • Q: What happens if I bypass the tilt switch connection?

Disassembly

  1. Remove the trailer hitch from the receiver if installed prior to opening tailgate.

  2. Open the tailgate and the step. Remove the 10 screws securing the tailgate protector and remove. Remove the six bolts (not re-used) securing the step and rotate the step forward to rest on the tailgate.

  3. Remove the four plastic cover panels. Some vehicles may be equipped with a light kit in two of the panels. If equipped with lights, the lights will be reinstalled into the Kicker speaker baffle later. Fig 2
    Note: Light kits (GM part number: 84347814) can be purchased separately from any GM dealership

  4. Loosen the two bolts securing the tailgate handle. Fig 3

  6. Install the supplied threaded clips. Fig 4

  7. Install the amplifier mounting bracket through the right of center hole and secure with the tailgate handle bolts and the two supplied bolts. Fig 5

  8. Re-attach the wire retainers to the amplifier bracket

  9. Install the amplifier onto the amplifier bracket with the supplied screws (short screws x 4). Fig 6

  10. Connect the amplifier harness to the amplifier and the four-pin connector to the tilt switch attached to the amplifier bracket. Fig. 7 Route the harness along the factory harness toward the passenger side.
    Note: The tilt switch is designed to turn the speaker system off when the inner tailgate is not in the fully down position. Failure to make this connection or attempting to bypass this switch will result in a constant drain on the vehicle battery. Likewise, any cutting, splicing or any other modifications made to the amplifier harness will immediately void the warranty.

  11. Disconnect the connector pictured and install the light kit T-harness (if equipped). Fig 7KICKER-19417163-Genuine-GM-Parts-fig \(6\)

  12. Fold the inner tailgate section down and snap loose the plastic hinge cover on the passenger side to aid in harness routing. Fig 8

  13. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  14. Continue to route the amplifier harness along the factory harness to the underneath side of the bed near the back side of the trailer connector. Secure amplifier harness to factory harness with supplied wire ties. Fig 9

  15. Disconnect the trailer connector and install the T-harness between the trailer connector and the factory harness. Connect the two-pin connector of the T-harness to the amplifier harness. Fig 10

  16. Install the supplied foam onto both sides of the speaker baffle as shown in Fig 11KICKER-19417163-Genuine-GM-Parts-fig \(8\)

  17. Temporarily install the speaker baffle and loosely install all six supplied replacement bolts. Fig 12

  18. Make sure the speaker baffle is perfectly mated to the tailgate and tighten the two center bolts.

  19. Predrill the four pilot holes for the supplied finethreaded screws using a 1/8 (.125) drill bit and then remove the bolts and speaker baffle. Fig12
    Note: Take care to control drill as it penetrates metal to avoid hitting wires.

  20. Reposition the step. Fig 13

  21. Vacuum any metal shavings created during the drilling process from inside the tailgate

  22. Remove lights (if equipped) from factory cover panels and install into the speaker baffle.
    Note: Lights are keyed and can only be installed one way. Do not force light into speaker baffle incorrectly.

  23. Connect the controller to the amplifier and secure by turning locking ring until finger tight. Fig 14

  24. Connect the 1/8-inch jack to the amplifier. Fig 14

  25. Connect the USB cable to the amplifier and secure to the metal tab with supplied wire tie. Fig 15KICKER-19417163-Genuine-GM-Parts-fig \(11\)

  26. Connect the speaker wires to the speakers. Fig 16
    Note: There are two different size connectors. Make sure the large connector is connected to the large speaker terminal and the small connector is connected to the small speaker terminal.
    Note: Make sure the speaker terminals are properly inserted into connectors. It is possible for the speaker terminal to be inadvertently inserted between the metal connector and the plastic insulator.

  27. Secure extra controller cable with wire ties. Fig 17
    Note: Trim wire tie ends. Make certain there are no loose ends of wire ties or wires that can contact the plastic housing or the tailgate in order to prevent buzzes or rattles from vibration.KICKER-19417163-Genuine-GM-Parts-fig

  28. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Fig 18

  29. Install speaker baffle over step hinges and install the six supplied Torx-head bolts – leave loose.

  30. Test function of speaker system. Refer to Bluetooth Controller Manual.
    Note: Inner and outer tailgates must be in the fully down position for the speaker system to operate.

  31. Install and tighten the four supplied screws. Do not overtighten! Fig 18

  32. Tighten the six Torx-head bolts. Torque: 9 NmKICKER-19417163-Genuine-GM-Parts-fig \(13\)

  33. Close the step over the speaker baffle and check clearance from step to baffle. If additional clearance is needed open inner tailgate and loosen the two hinge bolts on each side. Slide step away from baffle and retighten hinge bolts. Recheck clearance and make sure step still closes easily. Fig 19

  34. Refer to Bluetooth Controller Manual for operation instructions.

Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting the Kicker Tailgate System






Tailgate Speaker System will not power on.

| Check fuse at trailer connector T‐Harness.

Make sure inner and outer tailgates are in the fully

down position.

Check vehicle battery voltage.
Check trailer accessory fuse in fuse box.
Check harness connection at amplifier.
Check Bluetooth controller connection at amplifier.
Check four‐pin connector at black module attached

to amplifier bracket.


Tailgate Speaker System powers on, but no sound.

| Check that proper mode is selected, e.g. Bluetooth, Aux, USB. Refer to Bluetooth Controller User

Manual.


Tailgate Speaker System has rattle or buzz.

| Make sure foam tape is applied to rear of speaker baffle.
Make sure all wires are wire‐tied securely and not

touching the speaker baffle or tailgate.

Tailgate Speaker System shuts off when tailgate is raised.| There is no issue. Tailgate Speaker System is designed to only operate when both inner and outer

tailgates are folded fully down.


Poor Bluetooth Range or trouble connecting.

| In certain areas the system may be affected by interference from other RF devices. This problem should correct itself once out of range of

interference.
