Product Usage Instructions

Installation:

  1. Remove the radio from the dashboard using removal tools.

  2. Disconnect the CD changer 10-pin plug from the radio.

  3. Connect the installation harness 10-pin plug to the radio
    chamber vacated in step 2.

  4. Connect the installation harness 16-pin plug to the module
    socket.

  5. Secure the microphone to the headliner or visor using a
    clip.

  6. Route the microphone cable down the side pillar to the radio
    cavity.

  7. Connect the microphone right angle plug to the module MIC
    jack.

USB Charging:

The integrated USB port provides 5V/2A charging current. Connect
your device directly or use an optional dash mount USB extension
cable for charging.

Bluetooth Module Pairing and Connection:

  1. Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone.
  2. Select the Bluetooth name on your smartphone to pair with the
    module.

Bluetooth Operation:

  1. Turn on the radio and enter Bluetooth mode by pressing the CD
    button on the radio.

  2. Launch a streaming application on your smart device.

  3. Use the radio or steering wheel SEEK buttons to navigate
    tracks.

  4. To accept or reject calls, use the SEEK buttons on the radio or
    steering wheel.

Frequent Asked Questions (FAQ)

Question: Can multiple phones be paired with the Bluetooth

module?

Answer: Yes, the module supports multiple phone pairings but
connects to one phone at a time. Ensure no other device is paired
before attempting to pair a new phone.

Question: How can wind noise affect phone audio quality in

convertibles?

Answer: Wind noise can negatively affect phone audio quality.
Install the microphone away from wind or ventilation ducts to
improve audio clarity.

Requirements:
NON-OPTICAL CD CHANGER CONTROLLING RADIO
Introduction
The new BT3-MBR kit is compatible with virtually all Bluetooth phones, and sounds great whether using for mobile conversations or streaming music. The BT3-MBR works in 1994-99 Mercedes Benz with CD changer controlling radios. Once installed, music streaming from internet sites such as Pandora, Spotify, Apple music, audio books, GPS prompts, make/receive phone calls and phone charging. Use the radio or steering wheel “SEEK” button to track up/down, answer/end phone calls and more. The integrated USB charger provides 5V/2A charging current to keep those power-hungry devices charged while on the road. The BT3-MBR adds Bluetooth features to older Mercedes without changing the original radio or dashboard components.

Installation:
Installing this module requires radio removal. Remove radio from dashboard to gain access to connectors. A pair of removal tools (See Fig. 1) required (sold separately).

1. Slide tools into radio left and right slots with straight edge facing away until detent position. Withdraw radio by pulling tools. See Fig. 2 For detailed radio removal instructions, click here

Wind noise (Convertibles) will negatively affect phone audio. Users are advised to install microphone away from wind/ventilation ducts etc.

Module

USB charging
The integrated USB port (See Fig. 8) provides 5V/2A charging current. Simply connect your device directly or purchase optional dash mount USB extension cable seen in Fig. 9 and available here. The USB port is for charging only.

Bluetooth module pairing and connection
This process must be carried out upon initial install after which the BT3-MBR will automatically reconnect with paired phone.
1. Go to smartphone settings and enable Bluetooth 2. Smartphone will automatically begin searching for devices. 3. Select Bluetooth name (See Fig. 10) and tap “Connect”

Note: Supports multiple phone pairings but connects to one phone at a time. If for some reason phone fails to pair, ensure no other has paired to module in such case you must unpair that device in other to pair another. Some smartphones allow changing Bluetooth name to one of your choosing.
Warning: Caller ID and text are not shown on radio screen. Operate
Bluetooth device from steering wheel or radio “SEEK” buttons or device builtin controls.

Bluetooth operation
1. Turn ignition to “ACC” and turn the radio ON 2. Press “CD” button on radio to enter Bluetooth mode.
The radio screen will change to: Disc x Track x as seen in Fig. 11

previous track or up to next track. (See Fig. 12). You may also use built-in controls on smart device. 5. Place test call or ask someone to call. 6. To accept, press “SEEK DOWN” on radio or steering wheel (See Fig. 13) 7. To reject, press “SEEK UP” on radio or steering wheel (See Fig. 13)

8. Use radio or steering wheel volume buttons to adjust phone call level. Note: Some smartphones include settings for call volume. Please ensure this setting is not turned “OFF”.

1. If playback is distorted or low, adjust volume on Smartphone. 2. Bluetooth range is approximately 20 ft. Ensure smart device is within

Frequently asked question & troubleshooting
1. Does the BT3-MBR work in vehicles with CD changer? YES, but CD changer must be disconnected and will no longer function. Purchase our A2DIY-MBCD to retain use of the CD changer.
2. Does the BT3-MBR work on all Mercedes radios? NO; Works on 1994-99 Becker BE1492, BE1692, BE2210, BE1350) Alpine CM2296 and CM2396 radios. Becker traffic pro radios requires our A2DIY-BKR or A2DY-BKRCD
3. Does the BT3-MBR work on 1999+ Mercedes radios? To the best of our knowledge only the 1999 S-Class (e.g. S320) radio is compatible. Other 1999+ Mercedes Audio 10, 20, 30, 50, Comand. PCM etc. includes optical CD changer ports (See Fig. 11) and not compatible with this part.

4. Can I control Smartphone or Tablet from radio buttons? YES; Use “SEEK” button on radio or steering wheel to Track Up/Down and to Accept/Reject phone calls. You may also use Smartphone or Tablet builtin controls and display to operate the device. Radio volume button is used to set the playback level.
5. The 10-pin plug on this adapter looks identical to other Mercedes, and
Blaupunkt radios. Does the BT3-MBR work on these radios? NO; (See Fig. 11) The 10-pin port on 1999 radios is not optional CD changer. CD changer is connected to digital port. Blaupunkt 10-pin radios are also not compatible. 6. Will I be able to make phone calls using this Device? YES; the BT3-MBR supports Hands- Free calls. Ensure microphone is installed to allows callers to hear your voice. 7. What happens if a call comes through while streaming? Streaming mutes, call tone heard on car speakers. Press SEEK button to be connected with caller. Press SEEK button to end call. Once call end streaming resumes. 8. What happens when streaming and also navigating (e.g., Waze. Google
maps etc.? Streaming mutes, guidance announced on car speakers. Once guidance ends streaming resumes 9. Can I pair or save more than one device to the BT3-MBR? YES; more than one device (slaves) can be paired however only one connection can be active at a time. When pairing new device, ensure module has not already connected to or is within range of another paired device. 10. When driving, there is a high pitch noise that increases with speed.
Can you suggest a fix? It appears you are experiencing alternator whine and for this we recommend a noise filter. 11. I’m experimenting annoying engine noise (alternator whine that increases with engine speed) Is there a fix for this? We recommend installing our in-line BT63-NF (See Fig. 12) noise filter.
