Built-In Golf Screen Kit Assembly Manual – V01
Warning: These instructions are written for golf simulator rooms with straight, even 2×4 wood-framed walls. Any other wall construction will require adjustments.
Plan, Measure, and Align Your Space
Use a laser level to align all components for your golf simulator. Ensure they are set on an even plane, perpendicular to the side walls. Plan to place the screen at least 1 foot from the back wall to allow for fast-flying golf balls.
TIPS
Consider where you will need to remove any decorative trim or obstructions that will interfere with installation.
Install Corner Cable Anchors
-
Measure at least 1 ft from each corner of the back wall. Mark the placement of the 4 corner cable anchors.
-
Set one corner cable anchor in place on the floor with the tapered end pointing up.
-
Make sure the corner cable anchor is level. Then mark the bottom-angled hole and drill a pilot hole at a downward angle for the ¼” lag screw. Use one screw to secure it in place through the bottom angled hole into the bottom plate of the wall.
The corner cable anchor is designed to secure the screen with a single screw through the angled hole (as shown). The two holes above can provide additional security. However, they are optional. -
Repeat with the other floor corner cable anchor ensuring it is installed on an even plane.
-
Then continue with the 2 ceiling corner cable anchors. Install each into the top plate in the same manner, with the tapered end pointing down.
Install Top Cable
A cable will run through each corner cable anchor to hold the screen in place. The cable comes in 2 parts. One part is pre-threaded into the bottom of your golf screen. The top part of the cable is loose. Start with the loose top cable.
- Press the cable into one of the ceiling corner cable anchors, then insert the pulley wheel.
- The turnbuckle is too big to thread with the pulley wheel on. Get the cable behind the pulley wheel first.
Secure the pulley wheel in place with a safety wire lynch pin through the lower hole.
- Repeat with the other ceiling cable anchor. Once secure, the top cable should be spanning the ceiling, with the left and right sides hanging down.
Hang Screen
- Orient the impact screen with the Carl’s Place logo in the top left.
- Loosely zip-tie the top 2 corners of the screen around the pulley wheel of the 2 ceiling corner cable anchors.
- Bend the tip of the zip-tie to get it to curve around behind the pulley wheel.
- Your screen should now be loosely hanging from the ceiling with the bottom cable lying on the floor.
- Don’t worry too much about any wrinkles, those will relax with tension over time.
- Take one end of the pre-threaded cable that runs through the bottom of the screen and press it into a floor corner cable anchor, then insert the pulley wheel.
- Secure the pulley wheel in place with the lynchpin through the lower hole closest to the floor.
- Connect the top and bottom cable ends together on each side via the turn buckles and tighten just until cable system is taut. Do not over tighten.
- The reverse threaded turnbuckle means you just turn the turnbuckle for it to lock both cables into place.
- Firmly tighten the nuts to secure the turnbuckle in place. This prevents loosening over time. Ensure a secure hold by using a wrench to tighten it.
- You may need to use a vice-grip or a hex key inserted through the hole in the turnbuckle to get enough leverage to fully tighten this nut.
- With the screen hanging, install zip-ties through the bottom corner grommets and around the corner anchor pulley wheel.
- With the corner grommets secured and the cable ten- sioned just until taut, use zip ties through all other grommets and around the cable.
- Keep the screen centered throughout the hanging process, it’s easier to just keep it centered as you go vs. trying to shift it later.
Make Any Necessary Screen Adjustments
Gently tighten all zip ties as needed to achieve an even gap along the screen edges.
- The bottom of the screen should be level with the floor. Screen lifting off the floor? Adjust zip ties to obtain minimal gap on the floor.
- For larger screens, (or to achieve a perfectly straight top edge) you can raise the top edge of the screen using mountable zip ties at the top.
Check the screen tension and spacing
- The cable should not be overly tight. Overtightening the cable causes pulling and bowing that you can’t correct with zip tie adjustments.
- Screen lacking tension? Adjust zip ties to achieve the right balance of tension.
Congrats! Your built-in screen is up!
Secure Flaps
From here you just need to attach the screen flaps with the hook and loop fasteners to get that clean look.
- First, set your laser level or plumb line to get a straight line from floor anchor to ceiling anchor.
If Securing Flaps with Tape
To install the hook fastener tape, remove the adhesive and fasten to the
walls and/or ceiling, 5” in front of the cable anchor. You can also staple the
tape down to ensure a long-lasting con-nection.
If Securing Flaps with Optional Starter Panels
For starter panels, start at the bottom, setting the lowest starter panel
against the floor anchor. Align vertically with your cable anchors and screw
into the stud (or use wall anchors).
Insert (Optional) Foam Inserts
- If ordered, you’ll receive enough foam inserts to insert under the flaps along the sides and top of your screen. Starting at the bottom, push foam into the corners, between the cable and the screen.
- Cover the foam with the screen flap. Ensure that the edge of the foam is not between the hook and loop fastener strips when securing the flaps.
Secure the flap using the hook and loop fasteners.
Nip, tuck and smooth out any lines. Any creases remaining from folding will
relax over time. You’re ready to golf!
