2. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Metra Network Controller is a protocol converter/link between a Metra NET
Network (CAN) and a computer LAN network (TCP/IP). It enables communication
between Metra NET devices and Metra NET software installed on the personal
computer in the same LAN network. Metra Network Controller controls up to 60
devices connected to Metra NET Network. If more than 60 devices are used in a
system several separate Metra networks are controlled by Metra Network
Controllers which are mutually connected over LAN network. There are two
available operating modes: single (master) and dual (master/slave). In single
mode only one Metra Network Controller is used for each Metra NET network. The
other possibility is to use the dual mode, where two Metra Network Controllers
control one Metra NET network. One Metra Network Controller acts as master and
the other is redundant slave that takes over the control of Metra NET network
in case of master malfunction, etc. Master device is connected to one end of
Metra Net Network and slave device to the other. In normal operation only
master device controls all devices on the Metra NET Network and slave serves
as hot spare and is activated in case of LAN, Metra NET or master device
failure and upon failure activation alarm notification is send by Metra PC SW
over LAN/WAN network. If Metra NET Network gets interrupted both devices
become master and take control of devices connected to their segment of Metra
NET Network. A pushbutton which enables emergency opening of Metra ELS, ELS
NET and LCC NET lockers connected to same Metra NET Network can be connected
to the Metra Network Controller.

4.3. Metra NET Network connection
For Metra NET use standard UTP cable and connect it to designated connector.
ATTENTION Be careful not to mix the Metra NET connection with LAN connection.
ATTENTION Metra NET port is internally terminated. Use Network Terminator 120
at far end of trunk line.
4.4. Function pushbuttons connection
Function pushbuttons F1 and F2 (marked as EOP1 and EOP2) are available at the
front panel via Phoenix connectors. By default both functions are disabled.
Each F1/F2 pushbutton can be programmed via Metra Server Software WEB
Interface and downloaded to “Metra Rack” internal memory. The following
options are possible:
· OFF (Disabled) · Security Search Activate · Security Search Deactivate ·
Fire Alarm Activate · Fire Alarm Deactivate · EOPN compatibility Mode · Access
Control compatibility Mode Each “F” Function Button can be programmed for two
different functions · Press and HOLD for 4 seconds. Normally used for function
activation. · Momentarily press and release. Normally used for function
deactivation.
If you are using twisted pair cable or UTP cable with RJ-45 connector, connect
emergency open pushbutton as shown on the picture. For emergency open use blue
and blue/white wires of the UTP cable.

8. COMPATIBILITY
New Metra Network Controller can be used as a replacement for the old Network Controller TCP/IP (on picture)
8.1. Replacement procedure for Network Controller TCP/IP:
– Disconnect old Network Controller TCP/IP – If mounted in Rack, use
adjustment plate to fix new Metra Network Controller – Use new power supply
(mind different connector) – Metra NET port stays the same. – Emergency Open
Push button comes now with two different ports
(see chapter: 4.4 Function pushbuttons connection) – USB port is no longer
available. – LAN port stays the same
8.2. Replacement procedure for Repeater Mounting Plate for 19” rack:
For mounting Metra Network Controller into Rack adjustment plate is needed. When replacing an older version of the Network Controller TCP/IP, this adjustment plate must be mounted on the Rack.
