SAFETY

To maintain safety we advise to strictly follow these requirements!

  • Before purchasing sauna please consult it with Your doctor.
  • Staying in the hot sauna for long periods of time makes the body temperature rise, which may be dangerous.
  • To avoid dehydration or other health dangers caused by high temperatures, it is advisable to appropriately hydrate the body.
  • The stones and outer surface of the stove and chimney may burn your skin. Keep children away from the heater. Children should have no opportunity to approach sauna unattended.
  • Be very careful when moving in the sauna, as the platform and floors may be slippery.
  • Never throw water on the stones when there are people near the stove, because hot steam may burn their skin.
  • Never use hot sauna unattended. If You mean to leave sauna please make sure that the flames are not burning.
  • Do not leave disabled, sick persons and children alone in the sauna.
  • Never use sauna after alcohol consumption, drugs or other psychotropic substances.
  • Do not fall asleep in a hot sauna.
  • For fire safety always keep an extinguisher nearby the sauna.
  • WARNING! The lock installed in the outside door is only for additional safety and against unauthorised access. Never close the door while using the sauna!

INSTALLATION

Ground preparation
The choice of the proper installation place is very important and has a serious impact on the user’s safety and sauna durability.
Sauna needs to be situated in safe distance from the buildings and flammable objects. The fire sparks that come out of the heater may result in fire hazard.
Placing the sauna on an even surface that can bear the weight of the sauna is important. It can be made of beams, concrete slabs or gravel embankment with minimum thickness of 15 cm. It can additionally insulate the sauna foundation, prevents grass to grow and the wood from breathing what contributes to rotting. It is not recommended to situate the sauna directly on the ground or grass.

OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE

To maximise the lifetime of the sauna it is recommended to follow these rules of maintenance.
Choose the stove model carefully (electric or wooden heater) and always read the whole instruction. All instructions are also available on our website or on the www.vingberg.pl manufacturer’s website.

ATTENTION! Installation of the electric stove can only be carried out by the qualified electrician.
Using of wood-burning sauna stoves
When using the stove for the first time please be aware that the stove body has been painted with protective paint, which will vaporise during the first heating. This will cause the stove body to emit smoke. During this time the door for the sauna should be left open to ventilate the sauna room. When the smoking stops, the stove is ready for normal use. The sauna stones should not be placed in the stove before the first heating. Place the stones in the stove only when the stove has cooled completely after the first heating.
WARNING! The heater is fired only with wood! Different fuel may damage the heater or may cause serious risk of fire.
Dry wood is the best material for heating the stove. To start a fire in a heater use only hard, dry wood (beech and birch) and only small parts, not longer than 30 cm. Dry chopped firewood pieces when it is knocked together with another piece. The moisture of the wood has a significant impact on how clean the burning is as well as on the efficiency of the stove. If you burn large amounts of wood, which has a high thermal value, the life span of the stove will shorten.
Place the kindling on the top of the firewood. By starting the fire on the top of the firewood, fewer emissions are produced. Then fire the kindling and close the door. The amount of draught can be adjusted by opening the ash box. The stove is not intended for use with the stove door open.
When reaching the temperature of 60-70 C the stones may be poured with water, that will increase the humidity in the sauna and effectiveness of the heater.
Do not burn the following materials in the stove:

  • Burning materials that have a high thermal value (such as chipboard, plastic, coal, brickets, pellets)
  • Painted or impregnated wood
  • Waste (such as PVC plastic, textiles, leather, rubber, disposable diapers)
  • Garden waste (such as grass, leaves)
  • Liquid fuel

The ash box should always be emptied before heating the stove so that the combustion air that is lead through the box and would cool off the fire grate and lengthen its life span. Get a metal container, preferably standing model, to put the ash in. As the removed ash may include hot embers, do not keep the ash container close to combustible material. Soot and ashes gathered in the smoke canals of the stove should be removed occasionally through the soot openings.
Due to large variation in temperature, the sauna stones disintegrate in use. Therefore, they should be rearranged at least once a year or even more often if the sauna is in frequent use. At the same time, any pieces of stones should be removed from the stone space, and disintegrated stones should be replaced with new ones. Wipe dust and dirt from the stove with a damp cloth.
Chimney maintenance
The chimney and connection pipes should be swept at regular intervals and especially if the stove has not been used in a long time. Due to incomplete burning of fuel and failure of sweeping the chimney, the soot build-up in the flue may ignite.
ThermoWood® preservation
Vingberg saunas are manufactured by using high quality, selected thermally treated Scandinavian Pine. The process itself is based on Finnish technology and years of experience.
Using Thermo Wood in saunas is an excellent choice as the material is durable and superior product, with high resistance to water, biological and external factors like fungi and insects, with high thermal insulation. UV protection of the wood is required. Sauna oiling with Adler Bodenöl or Tikkurilla Vallti Wood Oil is recommended one or two times a year. If the wood won’t be protected against the UV, the brown colour of the wood will fade away and it will turn to grey
after some time not losing its durability against decay.
ATTENTION! Only the outer face of the sauna should be covered by the oil. To keep cleanliness inside the sauna the use of liquid soft soap is advised.
In the summer season, when sauna is not in use, it is recommended to put a bucket with water inside the sauna. It will protect the wood from drying.
