Introduction

Like every Ikelite product, the Vega is designed, built and tested in the USA. We use locally sourced, top-grade materials. Our lights are built by hand and individually tested for function and waterproof integrity. The average assembly technician is a certified scuba diver and has over 16 years of experience building Ikelite products. We back our products with over 50 years of experience and service within the dive industry.

The Vega packs a lot of power into a compact and travel-friendly package. Switch quickly between full, half and quarter powers for video, focusing, macro photography, or to use as a backup dive light. Power level is controlled by a large, easy to turn dial on the rear of the light. A premium, high- capacity built-in rechargeable battery provides up to 3 hours run time on a single charge.

Each Vega is completely factory sealed and water pressure tested for care-free maintenance. The clever rear dial over-rotates to a secondary “off” position with a lock to prevent the light from accidentally turning on when not in use. Two gold-plated, independently waterproofed charger ports are deliberately hidden when the switch is in the safety lock position to eliminate the possibility of inadvertently shorting the light during travel.

The Vega features a ring of 6 LED indicators directly on the back of the light. Three Blue LEDs give you power level information and three Red LEDs show remaining battery power at a quick glance.

Usage – see diagrams on pages 5 and 6

  • When you are ready to turn on or charge the Vega, slide the Locking Switch toward the center of the Power Dial. Rotate the Power Dial clockwise to the OFF/CHARGE position. Insert Charger Plug or continue rotating to turn on.
  • Fully charge the Vega before each use (see Charging the Vega, page 7).
  • Always keep the Vega Power Dial in the LOCKED position, page 6, when not in use or charging.

CAUTION: The Vega is designed for UNDERWATER use only and has cooling channels which allow water to constantly cool the light. DO NOT leave the Vega on for long periods of time above water. This may cause the Vega to overheat and shut off. If this happens, turn the Power Dial to the OFF/CHARGE position. A built-in safety feature will not allow the light to turn on until a safe operating temperature is again achieved. Keep the Vega out of direct sunlight for extended periods.

Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
Light is dim or does not work.  – Recharge light.

– Check Power Setting.
– Vega is designed for UNDERWATER use due to its high intensity. If the light is used for extended periods of time above water, a safety switch will turn the light off. If this happens, turn Power Dial to the OFF/CHARGE position and allow the light to cool down to operating temperature before attempting further use.D14

Safety Information

Fuse switches and heat management circuitry are built into the Vega to prevent accidental overheating, short-circuits, overcharge, or over-discharge.
DO NOT subject the Vega to temperatures in excess of 70°C (158°F). Such abuse can result in loss of seal, battery leakage, and/or battery cell explosion.
Product Safety Data Sheets (PSDS) can be obtained through an Ikelite dealer or by contacting ikelite@ikelite.com.

Maintenance

Always rinse the Vega in freshwater after each dive. Any trapped saltwater in the Charging Ports may dry and cause salt crystals to form which could interfere with charging.

Storage Information

Rinse and dry the Vega before storing. Store in a cool ventilated area, away from moisture and sources of heat or open flame. Temperature above 70°C (158°F) can result in loss of seal, battery leakage, and/or battery cell explosion.
Charge the battery pack to at least half to maintain healthy condition of the cells. Always rotate the Power Dial into the LOCKED position when not in use.

Airline Travel and Transport Information

The Vega Power Dial should be in the LOCKED position, and the Locking Switch should be locked to prevent accidental activation during transport. DO NOT attempt to open the Vega.
In case of accidental activation during shipment or transport, the aluminum front of the Vega should avoid direct contact with plastic or neoprene within your luggage or package, as this will prevent cosmetic heat related damage to those materials. Securely pack the Vega with cotton, polyester, or fleece material in your luggage for safe transport. The Vega integrated Li-ion battery is less than 100 Whr and complies with all applicable airline safety regulations for rechargeable Li-ion batteries contained in equipment.
Check with your airline regarding regulations on transporting Li-ion batteries in carry-on or checked baggage.
