KNITWEAR Erebus Boat Neck Pullover
UNIQUE FEATURES
- Made of Oiled Wool which is a yarn that has not been highly processed or dyed and retains the natural lanolin oils from the fleece.
- This gives our knitwear the fresh wool smell & helps protect the garment.
- Our Knitwear is made in Britain using 100% certified British Wool which is fully traceable.
- This unprocessed wool doesn’t hold any sweat like man-made fibres so it rarely needs laundering as it will stay fresher for longer.
- It is naturally fire-resistant. Wool is self-extinguishing, unlike many synthetic materials.
- This is why it is chosen for use by many occupations such as oil rig workers and firefighters.
- Your natural oiled wool pullover is a substantial garment that will keep you warm in the winter yet because it is so breathable, it can also be worn during a cool summer evening when the sun has gone down.
- It will naturally shed off a short shower or spray and still maintain its warmth even if it does get wet.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
- As our knitwear contains natural lanolin which helps it resist water, it is best to wash it as little as possible.
- The lanolin provides the knitwear with a fresh wool smell.
- Traditionally, woolen knitwear would be protected from dirt while fishing or working onboard by wearing a simple canvas smock.
- Arthur Beale supplies our range of natural canvas smocks.
Over time, however, you will need to clean your knitwear and we recommend the following method:
- Hand wash in tepid (30°C) water – hot water will lead to shrinkage. Ideally use Arthur Beale Woolly Wash, a liquid soap, or possibly a 2 in 1 hair shampoo and conditioner. Immerse the knitwear and gently swish and agitate by hand. Leave to soak for 5 – 10 minutes then ball up the knitwear and squeeze out the water. Refill with fresh water and repeat until the water is clear and squeezed out.
- Never wring or stretch wool when wet – this will cause the knitwear to become misshapen due to the elasticity of natural wool. Just lay the pullover on a clean towel and roll them together tightly to remove the excess moisture without stretching it.
- Dry the knitwear flat – do not use the tumble dryer or it could shrink radically. Reshape the knitwear while it is damp, squaring off the shoulders and the waist. Store knitwear folded not hung.
A good way to freshen our knitwear between washes is to gently steam/press it with an iron on the wool or steam setting.
FOR EVERY ADVENTURE
- Arthur Beale has a unique history. We have been in business for at least five hundred years.
- In the early days, we were surrounded by fields of flax from which we made ropes and twine.
- Our Alpine Club Rope became world famous and was used on the early Everest attempts by Eric Shipton, H.W.
- Bill Tilman, and Tenzing Norgay. We supplied Polar Explorers such as Sir Ernest Shackleton and Gino Watkins.
- Today we still supply Arctic explorers with sailing equipment and clothing. Wool’s unique insulating properties make it the preferred choice for many polar expeditions.
- Our Products draw from our rich heritage of equipping voyagers, wayfarers, vagabonds, and pioneers. If you have any questions, please email or give us a call using the details below.
