RECPRO RV Roof Rubber Kit

Product Usage Instructions

Removal of Existing Roofing Material:

Remove any vents, air conditioning units, antennas, or other accessories and appliances from the roof of your RV. Detach any necessary internal wiring. Peel up the seal until screws are exposed, remove screws, cut along the edge of the accessory using a utility knife, then pull off the old roofing material.

Preparation:

Inspect for any water damage, soft spots, rusted screws/fasteners, or missing mesh joint tape. Make necessary repairs and replace tape and screws as needed. Sweep off debris from the roof.

Installation of New Roofing Material:

Drape PVC rubber roof material over the RV with overhang on all sides.
Roll up half of the material and apply rubber roof adhesive over the wood in a 1 to 2 foot segment. Unroll the material ensuring firm adhesion.
Smooth out bubbles or wrinkles using a flat object. Cut holes for protrusions on the roof.
Repeat steps for the other half of the roof.

The installation process will vary depending on your specific RV make and model, as well as any alterations or modifications that may have been made to it. The following instructions consist of the basic process.

Before installing

Make sure your roof is weight-bearing. If your roof is not weight-bearing, ladders or an elevated platform such as scaffolding will be needed to reach the roof of the RV. DO NOT climb onto or put weight on a non-weight-bearing roof.
Check the weather. Choose a mild day with low humidity, ensuring the next few days will be clear of adverse weather conditions. High temperatures and high humidity may alter curing time of the adhesive and sealants.

INSTALLATION

It is strongly recommended that you have someone assist you during installation.

Remove any vents, air conditioning units, antennas, or other accessories and appliances from the roof of your RV. Detach any necessary internal wiring as needed for certain accessories, such as antennas.
NOTE: For many applications, such as skylights and vents, it may be easiest to peel up the seal until the screws are exposed, remove the screws, then cut along the edge of the accessory using a utility knife before pulling off the old roofing material.
Set any screws or fasteners aside for reinstallation later.
NOTE: If any screws, fasteners, gaskets, or seals are showing signs of rust or decay, now is a good time to replace them.
Remove the back roof trim, front roof trim, and side roof trims of your RV by peeling up the old sealant until the screws are exposed, then unscrewing. Be careful not to bend your trim pieces if you intend on reusing them. Set trim and screws aside for later reinstallation.
Starting from the front or back of your RV, begin carefully peeling the old roofing material up.
a. If your roof is made with OSB, you can safely cut and peel up small segments of the old roofing material using a utility knife.
b. If your roof is made with plywood, exercise caution when cutting and peeling segments of the old roofing material. Carefully peel the old material off in the same direction as the grain of the wood.
Before proceeding, inspect your roof for any water damage, soft spots (which may indicate water damage), rusted screws/fasteners, or missing mesh joint tape along the edges of the wood panels. Make any necessary repairs and replace mesh tape and screws as needed before continuing installation.
Sweep off the roof of your RV to ensure it is clean and free of debris.
Drape or unroll the sheet of PVC rubber roof material over the entire length of your RV, ensuring several inches of overhang on all sides.
Roll up one half of the rubber roof material so that the wood of the roof is exposed.
Using a paint roller, apply a thorough and even coating of the rubber roof adhesive over the wood of the roof in a 1 to 2 foot segment, then unroll the roof material over that segment ensuring firm and
even adhesion.
Use a soft, flat object to smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles. Cut any holes as needed for pipes or other protrusions on the roof. Mark areas where holes for accessories and appliances, such as an air conditioners are located
Repeat steps 9 and 10 until the rubber roof material is adhered to that half of the roof.
Repeat steps 8 to 11 for the other half of your RV to adhere the roofing material to the other half of your roof. Once done, quickly inspect the roof and smooth out any remaining air bubbles or wrinkles.
When you are satisfied, you may begin reinstalling your front, rear, and side trim pieces. Apply butyl tape to the back of each trim piece and pull the roofing material taught before fastening the trim to your RV using new screws or the screws you removed previously.
NOTE: If your old trim is warped, bent, or otherwise damaged, you can find new RV roof trim at www.recpro.com/rv-trim/.
Once all trim pieces have been installed, use a utility knife to cut off the excess material.
NOTE: Save excess material, as it can be used if you need to make a quick patch to your roof in the future.
Use a utility knife to cut out the areas on your roof you marked in step 10 for vents, antennas, air conditioners, etc, leaving ½” of material overhanging into the hole.
Pull the roofing material taught to the side of the hole and fasten using staples or a similar small fastener. Trim off any remaining excess material.
Repeat steps 14 and 15 for each area where an appliance or accessory will be installed.
NOTE: Before proceeding with the next step, now is a good opportunity to clean or replace any accessories, trim pieces, air conditioner gaskets ect.
For accessories such as skylights, vents, or trim rings, apply a layer of butyl tape to the trim ring, edge, or other areas where screws may be used.
Reinstall all accessories according to their respective installation guidelines.
Apply RecPro Self-Leveling Sealant around the edges of all accessories, trim, screw holes, corners, or other areas where water could leak through.
