BATTERY BACK UP

This clock has provision for you to install two “AA” size 1.5 volt alkaline batteries (not provided) to maintain the clock operation in the event of a power failure. Should a power failure occur, and good batteries are installed, the clock will maintain time and the audible wakeup bell alarm will sound when the time of day coincides with the alarm wakeup time setting, provided the alarm selection switch is in the ON position. During a power failure, when the clock is operating from the backup batteries, the clock dial light will not illuminate to conserve battery life. If you do not install good backup batteries the clock will not function during a power failure and the clock must be reset when the power returns. Installing good backup batteries allows you to unplug the clock and move it from one place to another without having to reset the time of day.

NOTE: If, after a power failure, the displayed time is not correct, the backup batteries should be replaced.

TO INSTALL THE BACKUP BATTERIES

  1. Remove the access cover to the battery compartment in the bottom of the unit.
  2. Install two fresh “AA” size 1.5-volt alkaline type batteries, observing the polarity markings inside the battery compartment.
  3. Replace the battery compartment cover.

IMPORTANT : Remove batteries if the unit is to be unplugged from the AC outlet for more than a day, or if the unit is to be stored for an extended period.

This will prevent batteries from being drained. Overextended storage periods, batteries can leak and damage the unit. Leaky batteries should be discarded immediately. Skin burns or other personal injury can result. Always dispose of batteries according to federal, state, and local regulations.

TO SET THE TIME OF DAY

  1. When viewed from the front of the unit, the left-hand set knob (1) located in the recessed back of the unit (behind the clock) is used to rotate the hour and minute hands to set the time of day.
  2. Rotate this knob clockwise or counter clockwise until the minute and hour hands indicate the desired time of day.

TO SET THE ALARM WAKEUP TIME

  1. When viewed from the front of the unit, the right-hand set knob (2) located in the recessed back of the unit (behind the clock) is used to rotate the alarm indicator hand to set the alarm wakeup time.
  2. Rotate this knob clockwise or counterclockwise until the alarm indicator hand indicates the desired
    wakeup time.

TO OPERATE THE ALARM

  1. Move the alarm selection switch (3) located on the back of the unit above the time and alarm set knobs to its top ON position before going to bed.
  2. At five minutes before the alarm wakeup time setting, the lamp will come on intermittently blinking on and off to gently start the wakeup process.
  3. When the time of day coincides with the alarm wake-up time setting, the audible bell wake-up alarm will sound.
  4. Moving the alarm selection switch (3) to its lower OFF position turns the audible bell wakeup alarm sound and the blinking lamp off.
  5. With alarm selection switch (3) in its lower OFF position, neither the blinking lamp or audible wakeup alarm will function.
  6. The audible wakeup alarm sound and blinking lamp will automatically turn off in 35 minutes.

TO OPERATE THE SNOOZE FUNCTION

  1. When the lamp turns on or if both the lamp is blinking and the audible bell alarm is sounding, pressing and releasing the top snooze button (4) will interrupt the blinking lamp or both the blinking lamp and audible bell alarm sound for ten minutes.
  2. In five minutes the lamp will continue to blink on and off and at the end of the ten-minute snooze period, the bell alarm will sound.
  3. The snooze function may be repeated up to four times.

TO REPLACE THE LAMP

NOTICE : USE ONLY A LAMP RATED FOR 120 VOLTS AC, 10 WATTS AS A REPLACEMENT.

  1. With the front of the clock lying facing down in one hand and side of the clock opposite the lamp next to you, with the other hand, grasp the lamp access cover with your fingers tips on the edge of the lamp access cover edge with the triangular indicator and pull toward you and upward to open the access cover and expose the lamp.

  2. With the fingers, grasp the glass envelope of the lamp pushing the lamp toward its socket while rotating the lamp counterclockwise as far as it will go.
CAUTION: Care should be taken when removing or replacing the lamp. Too much pressure exerted on the glass envelope of the lamp can cause it to shatter and you can be cut by the raw edges.

  3. Lift up on the lamp to remove it.

  4. Position the pins of the replacement lamp to align them with the cutouts in the metal base of the lamp socket inside the lamp socket housing.

  5. Press the lamp down and rotate clockwise to seat the pins into the locking notches of the metal lamp socket.

  6. Replace the lamp access cover.
