Cloth Carousel Kids Summer Sewing Camp Instructions
Kids 8-14 will have a blast learning all kinds of different sewing skills during this 4-day camp! We will cover the following skills and projects:
- Get to know the sewing machine
- Learn to wind a bobbin and thread a sewing machine
- Sewing worksheets daily to learn accuracy
- Lined Drawstring Backpack
- Water Bottle Sling
- Boxy Zipper Pouch
- Create your Own Emoji Pillow
- Letter Banner (if we have extra time)
Supply List:
Because this is a unique class being more than one day, etc. we will handle
supplies in a different way. Each day, your student will pick their fabrics
and we will put their purchases on account. Parents can then pay for the
fabric at the end of camp that day. Students will receive a 10% discount on
supplies purchased for camp. Attached you will find a list of supplies needed
so that if your student has fabric at home, they can bring it if they wish.
Fabric: must be 100% cotton, at least 42-45” wide.
Sewing machines, scissors, thread and pins are provided
Project Supplies
Drawstring Backpack:
- 3/8 yard outside fabric (1/2 yard if directional)
- 3/8 yard lining fabric (1/2 yard if directional)
- Mel will supply drawstrings
Water Bottle Sling:
- ¼ yard main fabric – cotton canvas
- 1/8 yard accent strip fabric – cotton canvas
- 1/8 yard for strap – cotton canvas
- 1 fat quarter for lining – regular cotton
Boxy Zipper Pouch:
- 2 coordinating fat quarters
- 10 inch or longer zipper
- Woven fusible interfacing
Emoji Pillow:
- 1 yellow fat quarter for front
- 1 fat quarter of choice for back
(If using one fabric for both, purchase ½ yard of the same fabric)
Letter Banner (if we have extra time):
- Mel will provide materials for this project
