If you want to learn the basics of sewing, this is the class for you! Join Mel and learn the essentials of zipper installation by making this cute and simple pouch. Learning to install a zipper will give you the confidence to do so many more projects and Mel will teach you how easy it is! The goal of this class is to build your confidence in sewing fundamentals. This class is for absolute beginners, no sewing experience is necessary. This class will cover more rotary cutting, pinning, accurate seams, and backstitching. As always, supplies purchased for this and any class are 10% off at Cloth Carousel.
Fabric/Notions for this project
- Pattern: Triplizip pattern by In Color Order (available at Cloth Carousel)
- 1 Fat Quarter or 1/3 yard (if directional) exterior fabric. This can be either quilting cotton or canvas. If using quilting cotton, also get 1/3 yard of SF101 Interfacing!
- 1 Fat Quarter or 1/3 yard (if directional) lining fabric
- 10” Zipper
The following supply list is going to give you a nice all-around sewing kit that will allow you to complete basic sewing projects at home! The items in bold are REQUIRED for your class.
General Sewing Supply List
- Sewing Machine – always have your foot pedal, extra bobbins and sewing needles!
- Zipper Foot for sewing machine (most come with this)
- 18 x 24 self-healing cutting mat
- 6×24 inch creative grids ruler
- 45mm rotary cutter
- Knife edge sewing shears 7-8 inches long (preferably Gingher or Mundial)

For at home sewing, you will want to make sure you have an iron and ironing board. These are provided in class.
