Locate the 5 small dimples needed for this job along the lower section of your plastics, these will be fairly small but are molded into the plastic and will be where you start your drilling which will line you up for access to the frame mounting points. We provided measurements in the installation pictures for each location needing to be drilled in case the plastics of the vehicle are too rough to spot the dimples. With a 1 ½” hole saw go ahead and drill out the holes for both sides and then clean up any burrs or rough edges with a file. The rear mounting bolt located behind the rear seats also has a small plastic piece that needs the four points cut out allowing access to the frame hole, clean up any rough edges here as well.

Next, we are going to install the front bolt, washer, and back plate into and through the frame tubing. There is a rib of plastic that will need to be pushed over to the side to allow the bolt assembly to slide through the frame at the correct angle. We have found it easier to put the backing plate up against the frame tubing over the mounting hole and then push the bolt up and through them when they are positioned together. Once you get the bolt pushed through the backing plate and both sides of the frame tubing, pull back the bolt so it rests against the plastic rib that was moved out of the way earlier, this assures it will stay out of the way until the rocker mounts get up into its position.

Once the vehicle is prepared move onto the rocker guards and install all 10 extruded nut clips with the threaded section facing rockers, carefully lift the rocker into the holes previously drilled and push in until you can feel them butt up to the frame section. Install a bolt, washer, and back plate assembly to mounting point 2 first and snug up slightly with a 1/2” wrench or socket, from there move over to mounting point 4 and start that bolt. Mount 2 is next to the front seat and Mount 4 is next to the rear seat.

  • Finally, start bolt 1 then 5 before moving on and getting bolt 3 started. On bolt 5 make sure the backing plate goes BETWEEN the plastic and the frame tubing, it will be right where you cut the plastic circles out behind the rear seats. After all the bolts have been started tightening down the hardware working from the center out while paying attention to how close the rocker guards get to the plastic of your vehicle.
  • We have encountered a handful of vehicles that the plastics get a little too close for our liking and if this is the case we recommend shimming mounts 4 about a 1/8” and then mount 5 with about a 1/4″ shim, those changes evened out any gap issues we had.
  • When the gaps are to your liking and all the bolts are snug perform a final torque of all the hardware in the following sequence: 3,4,2,1,5 to ensure that all your rocker guard mounts are flush and tight against all its frame points. Perform a final checkover of all the work completed and enjoy another great product from Elektric Offroad Designs!
