1. Safety Precautions

Before starting, ensure your safety by turning on your hazards and pulling over to level ground away from traffic.

2. Securing the Vehicle

Apply the parking brake, retrieve the tire change supplies, and place chock blocks or wedges behind the wheels to prevent any movement.

3. Loosening the Lug Nuts

Use the lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the flat tire without removing them completely.

4. Jack Placement and Lifting

Locate the jack point behind the wheel (refer to the owner’s manual if needed) and position the jack beneath it. Lift the car until the tire is 6 inches off the ground.

5. Removing the Flat Tire

Finish unscrewing and removing the lug nuts before gently pulling the flat tire straight out.

6. Installing the Spare Tire

Align the spare tire rim with the lug bolts and push it onto the wheelbase. Hand-tighten the lug nuts to ensure even seating.

7. Lowering the Vehicle

Lower the vehicle until the spare tire touches the ground while ensuring that the weight is still supported by the jack.

8. Finalizing Installation

Firmly tighten the lug nuts using the lug wrench. Lower the vehicle completely, remove the jack, and give one final check on lug nut tightness.

9. Checking Tire Pressure

Refer to the owner’s manual for recommended spare tire pressure. If it’s low, head to a service station to fill it up.

What to do after changing your tire

  • Have the flat tire repaired or replaced ASAP.
