Installation Requirements

Electrical Requirements
IMPORTANT
Observe all governing codes and ordinances.
It is the customer’s responsibility:
To contact a qualified electrical installer.
To assure that the electrical installation is adequate and in conformance with National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70
— latest edition*, or CSA Standards C22.1-94, Canadian
Electrical Code, Part 1 and C22.2 No.0-M91 – latest edition** and all local codes and ordinances.
If codes permit and a separate ground wire is used, it is recommended that a qualified electrician determine that the ground path is adequate. A copy of the above code standards can be obtained from:

  • A 120 volt, 60 Hz., AC only, 15-amp, fused electrical circuit is required.
    1. If the house has aluminum wiring, follow the procedure below:
    2. Connect a section of solid copper wire to the pigtail leads.
  • Connect the aluminum wiring to the added section of copper wire using special connectors and/or tools designed and UL listed for joining copper to aluminum.
  • Follow the electrical connector manufacturer’s recommended procedure. Aluminum/copper connection must conform with local codes and industry accepted wiring practices.
  • Wire sizes and connections must conform with the rating of the appliance as specified on the model/serial rating plate.
    The model/serial plate is located behind the filter on the rear wall of the range hood.

Wire sizes must conform to the requirements of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70 (latest edition), or CSA Standards C22. 1-94, Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1 and C22.2 No. 0-M91 (latest edition and all local codes and ordinances.

If an electrical connection is accessible, connect the hood to an outlet that complies with current codes and regulations and ensure that the outlet is in a position where the hood can be installed. If an electrical connection is not accessible in the install location (direct connection to the electrical network) or the outlet will not be in a position for installation, place an approved bipolar switch in an accessible position that provides full dis- connection under Overvoltage Category III conditions, in accordance with local wiring rules. When the product is connected by a plug to the outlet, the plug must remain visible after instalaltion of the product.

Venting Requirements (ducted model only)

  • Vent system must terminate outdoors.
  • Do not terminate the vent system in an attic or other enclosed area.
  • Do not use a 4” (10.2 cm) laundry-type wall cap.
  • Use metal vent only. Rigid metal vent is recommended. Plastic or metal foil vent is not recommended.
  • The length of the vent system and the number of elbows should be kept to a minimum to provide efficient performance.

For the most efficient and quiet operation

  • Use no more than three 90° elbows.
  • Make sure there is a minimum of 24” (61 cm) of straight vent between the elbows if more than 1 elbow is used.
  • Do not install 2 elbows together.
  • Use clamps to seal all joints in the vent system.
  • The vent system must have a damper. If the roof or wall cap has a damper, do not use the damper supplied with the range hood.
  • Use caulking to seal the exterior wall or roof opening around the cap.
  • The size of the vent should be uniform.

Venting Methods
This canopy hood is factory set for venting through the roof or wall. A 6” (15.2 cm) round vent system is needed for installation (not included). The hood exhaust opening is 6” (15.2 cm) round.

NOTE
Flexible vent is not recommended. Flexible vent creates back pressure and air turbulence that greatly reduce performance. The vent system can terminate either through the roof or wall. To vent through a wall, a 90° elbow is needed.

Mounting Height
Select a mounting height between a minimum of 24” (61 cm) for an electric cooking surface, a minimum of 30” (76.2 cm) for a gas cooking surface, and a suggested maximum of 36” (91.4 cm) above the range to the bottom of the hood.

Rear discharge
A 90° elbow may be installed immediately above the hood.

For Non-Vented (recirculating) Installations
If it is not possible to vent cooking fumes and vapors to the outside.
the hood can be used in the non-vented (recirculating) version. fitting a charcoal filter and the deflector. Fumes and vapors are recycled through the top grille.

Installation

Installation Instructions
Preparing the Location

  • We recommend you install the vent system before you install the hood.
  • Before making cutouts, make sure there is proper clearance within the ceiling or wall for the exhaust vent.
  • Check your ceiling height and the hood height maximum before you select your hood.
  1. Disconnect power.

  2. Determine which venting method to use: roof or wall.

  3. Select a flat surface for assembling the range hood. Place a covering over that surface.

  4. Using 2 or more people, lift the range hood onto covered surface.

Range hood mountig screws installation

  1. Determine and mark the centerline on the wall where the canopy hood will be installed. Disconnect power.

  2. Select a mounting height between a minimum of 24” (60.9 cm) for an electric cooking surface, a minimum of 30” (76.2 cm) for a gas cooking surface, and a suggested maximum of 36” (91.4 cm) above the range to the bottom of the hood.
    Mark a reference line on the wall.

  3. Tape the template in place, aligning the template centerline and the bottom of the template with the hood bottom line and with the centerline marked on the wall.SAMSUNG-NK30K7000WS-A2-Range-Hood- \(7\)

  4. Mark the fastener locations by pushing a pen or pencil tip through the template into the wall.
    IMPORTANT : All screws must be installed into wood. If there is no wood to screw into, additional wall framing supports may be required.

  5. Remove the template.

  6. Drill 3⁄16” (4.8 mm) pilot holes at all locations where screws are being installed into wood.

  7. Install the 2 – 5 x 45 mm mounting screws. Leave a 1⁄4”(6.4 mm) gap between the wall and the back of the screw head so you can slide the range hood into place.

Vent cover bracket installation

Attach the vent cover bracket to the wall flush to the ceiling using 2 – 5 x 45 mm screws. Complete Preparation

  1. Determine and make all necessary cuts in the wall for the vent system. Install the vent system before installing the hood. See the “Venting Requirements” section.

  2. Determine the required height for the home power supply cable and drill a 1¼” (3.2 cm) hole at this location.

  3. Run the home power supply cable according to the National Electrical Code or CSA Standards and local codes and  ordinances. There must be enough wire from the fused disconnect (or circuit breaker) box to make the connection in the hood’s electrical terminal box.
    NOTE

  4. Do not reconnect power until installation is complete. 4. Use caulk to seal all openings.

Installing the range hood

  1. Using 2 or more people, hang the range hood on 2 mounting screws by inserting the mounting screws through the mounting slots on the back of the hood.

  3. Remove the hood assembly from the wall, and then drill 3⁄16” (4.8 mm) pilot holes at the marked locations.
  4. Hang the range hood again on the 2 upper mounting screws.
  5. Level the range hood and tighten the upper mounting screws.
  6. Install the 2 – 5 x 45 mm lower mounting screws and tighten.
    Use the optional wall anchors if needed.

Connecting the Vent System
This hood is compatible with vented installations only.

  1. Install the transition on the top of the hood (if removed for shipping) using 2 – 3.5 x 9.5 mm sheet metal screws.
  2. Fit the vent system over the exhaust outlet.
  3. Measure from the bottom of the air deflector to the bottom of the hood outlet. Cut the ductwork at the measured lenght.
  4. Seal the connection with clamps.
  5. Check that the back draft dampers work properly.

Electrical Connection
WARNING
Electrical Shock Hazard
Disconnect power before servicing.
Replace all parts and panels before operating. Failure to do so can result in death or electrical shock.

  1. Disconnect power.

  2. Remove the terminal box cover.

  3. Remove the knockout in the terminal box cover and install a UL listed or CSA approved 1⁄2” strain relief.

  4. Run the home power supply cable through the strain relief into the terminal box.

  5. Use UL listed wire connectors and connect the black wires (C) together.

  6. Use UL listed wire connectors and connect the white wires (E) together.
    WARNING
    Electrical Shock Hazard
    Electrically ground blower.
    Connect the ground wire to the green and yellow ground wire in the terminal box. Failure to do so can result in death or electrical shock.

  7. Connect the green (or bare) ground wire from the home power supply to the yellow-green ground wire (F) in the terminal box using UL listed wire connectors.

  8. Tighten the strain relief screw.

  9. Install the terminal box cover.

  10. Reconnect the power.

Installing the duct covers
When using both upper and lower vent covers, push the lower cover down onto hood and lift the upper cover to the ceiling and install with two mounting screws.

NOTE
The upper vent cover may be reversed to hide the slots. NOTE
To prevent scratches, lay paper or a kitchen towel over the edges of the lower flue duct to protect the surface.

Secure the bottom of the duct with 2 – 4 x 8 mm screws.

Completing the Installation
For non-vented (recirculating) installations only.
Install charcoal filters over the blower grids. See the “Range Hood Care” Section.

  1. Install the metal baffle filters. See the “Range Hood Care” section.
  2. Check the operation of the range hood blower and light.
    See the “Range Hood Use” section.

NOTE
To get the most efficient use from your new range hood, read the “Range Hood Use” section.

Range Hood Use

Range Hood Description
The range hood is designed to remove smoke, cooking vapors, and odors from the cooktop area. For best results, start the hood before cooking and allow it to operate several minutes after cooking is complete to clear all smoke and odors from the kitchen. The hood controls are located on the front side.

POWER

  • Press the POWER button and the hood will be activated at default speed (Default Speed : Low).
  • Press again and the hood will return to sleep mode.

LOW

  • Press the LOW button and the hood will be activated at Low speed. MED
  • Press the MED button and the hood will be activated at Medium speed. HIGH
  • Press the HIGH button and the hood will be activated at High speed. BOOST
  • Press the BOOST button and the hood will be activated at Maximum speed for 10 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes, the hood will slow to High speed.
  • Normal mode:
  • High & Boost CFM is same (390CFM).
  • Power mode:
  • High mode is 390 CFM and Boost mode is 600 CFM.

Timer Display
Shows the timer settings.

Timer
Setting the timer ON

  • Press the Timer button to set the working time.
  • Each time you press the Timer, you add 10 minutes to the displayed time, up to a maximum of 99 minutes. The hood will stay on for the amount of time you have set.
  • After the Timer counts down to zero, the Timer LED light will start to blink.
  • The Timer LED will blink for 5 seconds, and then the hood will turn off automatically.

Setting the timer OFF
Press the Timer button for 3 seconds and the Timer function will turn off.

Light

  • Press the Light button and the lamps will turn on.
  • Press the Light button again and the lamps will turn off.

Sound
Muting / Unmuting the hood.

  • Press and hold the Light button for 3 seconds to turn off the hood sounds.
  • Press and hold again to turn on the sounds.

COOKTOP AND RANGE HOOD CONNECTIVITY
This appliance has a feature which allows you to pair compatible Sam-sung cooktops and your hood via Bluetooth.
After you enable this function and pair your hood and a compatible cook-top, the hood fan will automatically come on at Low speed when you turn on a cooktop element. The hood fan will also shut off automatically when you turn off the cooktop elements.

In addition, after the hood and compatible cooktop are paired, you can download the Samsung Smart Home app to a mobile device, and then use the Samsung Smart Home app to:

  • Monitor and control the On/Off status of the hood.
  • Monitor and control the fan speed.
  • Monitor and control the lights.
  • Set the hood shut-off timer with the time-up alarm.

Bluetooth connection (Pairing)

  1. Press the Bluetooth button on hood. The pairing mode will be activated and the indicator on the Bluetooth button will blink.

  2. Press the Bluetooth button on cooktop.
    NOTE
    For a detailed description of the pairing method, see the user manual of a compatible Samsung cooktop.

  3. After the pairing process finishes, the Bluetooth light will stay lit and  appears in the display.

Bluetooth disconnection (Pairing reset)

  1. Press and hold the Bluetooth button on the hood for 3 seconds.
  2. The Bluetooth connection disconnects.

Auto Connectivity
The Auto Connectivity function lets you quickly connect the hood via Bluetooth with a compatible Samsung cooktop after the hood and cook-top have been paired. To turn the function on, press the Auto Connectivity button. To turn the function off and disconnect the hood and cooktop, press the Auto Connectivity button again.
While the hood and cooktop are connected, the hood fan will automatically come on at Low speed when you turn on a cooktop element. The hood fan will also shut off automatically when you turn off the cooktop elements. You will also be able to control the hood with the Samsung Smart Home app as described above.

  1. Press the Auto Connectivity button to activate the function.
  2. The hood will turn on/off automatically following the cooktop.
  3. Press again to deactivate the function.

NOTE
These functions are only available if you have installed a compatible Samsung Bluetooth cooktop.

Range Hood Use

  • Press and hold the HIGH and BOOST button on the hood for 3 seconds to convert Blower performance.
  • Normal mode:  40 appears in the display. The blower will operate normally (Max 390 CFM).
  • Power mode: 60   appears in the display. The blower will operate powerfully (Max 600 CFM).

Makeup Air

  • When using ventilation systems with greater than specified CFM of air movement, review local building codes as they may require makeup air systems. Consult a HVAC professional for specific requirements for you’re area as CFM requirements can vary between locales.
  • Consult a HVAC professional to select the correct CFM capacity range hood for your application. The CFM capacity depends on the range or cooktop BTU rating, size and location, size of the kitchen and the range hood ductwork in the kitchen.

Cleaning

IMPORTANT: Clean the hood and baffle filters frequently according to the following instructions. Replace the baffle filters before operating the hood.

Exterior Surfaces:
To avoid damage to the exterior surface, do not use steel wool or soap-filled scouring pads to clean the hood.
Always wipe dry to avoid water marks.

Cleaning Method

  • Liquid detergent soap and water or all-purpose cleanser
  • Wipe with a damp soft cloth or nonabrasive sponge, then rinse with clean water and wipe dry.
  • Do not use cleaning agents containing bleach.

Stainless Steel Baffle Filter:

  1. Remove the filter by pulling the spring release handle, and then pulling down the filter.
  2. Wash the stainless steel baffle filter as needed in your dishwasher or a hot detergent solution.
  3. To reinstall the filter, first make sure the spring release handles are toward the front. Insert the stainless steel filter into the upper track.
  4. Push in the spring release handle.
  5. Push up on the stainless steel filter, and then release the handle to latch the filter into place.

WARNING
When removing the filter, please hold it with both hands to make sure it does not fall.
Replacing an LED Lamp
The LED lights are replaceable by a service technician only. See the support contact information in the Warranty section.
Replacing the charcoal filter
After approximately one year of use, the charcoal filter should be replaced with a new one, as the odour reduction capacity will be reduced.

  1. Assemble the air deflector with the duct cover bracket using four 4.2 x 8 mm screws.SAMSUNG-NK30K7000WS-A2-Range-Hood- \(24\)
  2. Measure from the bottom of the air deflector to the bottom of the hood outlet.
  3. Cut the duct to the measured size “X.” SAMSUNG-NK30K7000WS-A2-Range-Hood- \(25\)
  4. Remove the air deflector.
  5. Slide the duct onto the bottom of the air deflector.
  6. Place the assembled air deflector and duct over the exhaust outlet from the hood.
  7. Reassemble the air deflector to the duct cover bracket with the four assembly screws.
  8. Seal connections with vent clamps.

To replace charcoal filter:
NOTE
The maximum BTUs if you use carbon filter is 46 000. If you use the hood with the carbon filters on and it does not decrease the BTUs the engine can fail or generate an unsafe act.

  1. Cover the grille that covers the blower motor with the charcoal filter so that the slots on the filter correspond to the pins on the sides of the motor grille.SAMSUNG-NK30K7000WS-A2-Range-Hood- \(26\)
  2. Turn the charcoal filter clockwise to lock it.
  3. Repeat steps 1-2 on the other filter.
