Conforto 3388 Flat And Steel Panel Radiators

Specification, Operation and Maintenance Information

General Information

  1. Conforto baseboard is manufactured using cold rolled steel and can only be installed in forced circulation, closed loop, and hydronic heating systems.
  2. Series loop piping is acceptable. Any individual loop should not exceed 30,000 Btuh.
  3. Homerun, 2-pipe reverse return, 2-pipe direct return, and monoflo piping systems are also acceptable.
  4. Conforto baseboard can be used with copper fin tube baseboard, but the copper fin tube baseboard will perform better when the Conforto baseboard is at the end of the loop.
  5. Conforto will operate when installed in either high or low-temperature systems.
  6. Maximum operating pressure is 56 PSI.
  7. Maximum operating temperature is 230 degrees Fahrenheit.
  8. Do not install in gravity flow systems.
  9. Do not install in steam systems.
  10. Conforto radiators are compatible with cast iron baseboards and radiators.
  11. Baseboard sections are supplied with hanging brackets, a manual air vent, and plugs. All other accessories will need to be ordered separately.
  12. A minimum distance of 2” is required between the bottom of the radiator and the surface of the floor for maximum efficiency.
  13. If installed as individual sections, each radiator must be vented individually.
  14. Air removal will need to be completed upon the initial fill of the system and periodically during the heating season to ensure proper operation and comfort.
  15. Air removal from the system should be performed while it is in a ‘static’ state (circulators not operating).
  16. Proper air elimination and air elimination devices will ensure adequate water flow through the system.
  17. Conforto radiators expand when heated. The expansion rate is .015” per linear foot when heated to 210 degrees Fahrenheit. Drilled holes and piping connections to the baseboard must be able to compensate for this expansion.
  18. Swing joints and flexible piping materials are two easy ways of dealing with baseboard expansion and the noises it creates.
  19. Always use all the hanging brackets supplied with the baseboard.
  20. Hanging brackets must be secured to wall studs or proper wall backing material with appropriately sized and strong fasteners.
  21. The surface temperature of the baseboard will be equal to the temperature of the water flowing through it. When installing on high-temperature systems use proper precautions with infants and toddlers.
  22. Antifreeze use is permitted. Always refer to the boiler manufacturer’s recommendations regarding type and dilution percentage. Antifreeze will become caustic if not maintained properly, annual maintenance is required. Conforto’s warranty will not cover damage caused by caustic antifreeze solutions.
  23. Conforto strongly recommends annual system water treatment.
  24. Do not install the Conforto baseboard in harsh or caustic environments.

Conforto Flat Tube Steel Baseboard

Internal Manifold Baffles
Conforto baseboard incorporates internal baffles in both manifolds. These baffles provide additional piping flexibility. Depending upon the piping configuration chosen, these baffles can remain in the closed position or be easily opened by the installer using the supplied punch and a hammer. See piping diagram section for baffle configuration specifications.

Opening the Internal Manifold Baffles
Must be Performed Prior to installation Install a protective layer over a hard surface. Place baseboard upside down on the protective layer. Insert the punch supplied into the bottom fitting opening of the manifold and center on the cross-hairs. Strike the punch with a swift hammer blow to open the baffle completely.

  1. If the baseboard is located on the floor directly above the main, one tee will normally suffice.
  2. If the baseboard is located on the second floor, then two tees are required, and the pipe leading to the baseboard should be one size larger than would normally be used.
  3. The tees must be at least the width of the baseboard apart.

Below the Main

  1. When the baseboard is below the main two diverter tees are required. Be sure the rings on the diverter tees are between the pipes that connect to the baseboard.
  2. The tees must be at least the width of the baseboard apart.
