Back Box Installation in Masonry
-
Prepare the recess in the wall using the included cut-out template. See also cut-out dimensions on page 24.
-
Unscrew the 4 screws to detach the aluminum frame from the plastic back box
-
Remove the knockout(s) for the power cable from the back box.
-
Feed the power cable and/ or network cable through the openings in the back box. Use the included cable fittings that provide strain-relief.
-
Place and fix the back box in the wall recess. Do not deform the backbox. The back box needs to align with the right side of the wall recess for horizontal installation or with the top side of the wall recess for vertical installation.
There will be a gap between the left / top side of the wall recess and the back box which is going to be covered by the aluminum frame (only touchDock, not touchDock mini). -
Attach the protective cardboard cover to the back box, using the same screws (3x20mm) that held the aluminum frame.
-
Fill the gap between the back box and the recess in the wall with a plaster-based filler to create a mechanical bond between back box and wall. Make sure the back box sits straight and flush in the wall recess.
-
After finishing plasterwork remove the cardboard cover.
-
Attach the aluminum frame to the back box and using the 3x20mm screws.
Back Box Installation in Drywalls
-
Prepare the recess in the wall using the included cut-out template. See also cut-out dimensions on page 24.
-
Remove the knockout(s) for the power cable from the back box.
-
Feed the power cable through the opening in the back box. Use the included cable fitting(s) that provide strain-relief.
-
This step applies only to touchDock, not to touchDock mini:
With a cardboard knife, cut small holes into the silver safety strips that cover the corner openings for the mounting clamps.
Do not remove the safety strips since they protect your docking station from dust and dirt buildup. -
Insert the backbox with the attached aluminum frame into the recess. Do not deform the back box.
The wider side of the aluminum frame needs to be on the left side for horizontalinstallation or on the bottom side for vertical installation (touchDock mini on the top side).
-
touchDock:
Feed the mounting clamps /doglegs through the openings in the corners of the back box and and use the included screws and washer to press the clamps tightly against the back of the drywall.
touchDock mini:
Use a Philips #2 screwdriver to press the pre-installed clamps tightly against
the back of the drywall. Make sure the back box
sits straight and flush in the wall recess.
Connect Power / Ethernet Cables to the Docking Station
Connect network cable (A) and optional power wires (B) to the connectors on
the mainboard of the docking station. Power wires are only needed if you
choose to power the unit through 100 -240 V AC. Important Note
Please refer to the Electrical Safety Information on page 25.
Option I: Connecting 100-240VAC
Connect the wires to the terminal according to color-code.
Number| European standard color code| US standard color code|
Naming
---|---|---|---
1| black/brown| black| hot (L)
2| blue| white| neutral (N)
3| yellow/green| green| ground (PE)
This information is supplied without liability.
Option II: PoE+ Switch or Injector
Important Note
If you use a managed PoE+ switch set the PoE+ port power output for your
docking station to 30 Watts (IEEE 802.3at). touchDock will not work with 15
Watts (IEEE 802.af) or passive PoE 24V.
Install the Docking Station
-
Connect the keypad control cable that‘s attached to the Aluminum frame to the upper 5-pin connector on the circuit board of the docking station.
-
After connecting the cables, insert the docking station into the opening of the aluminum frame that‘s attached to the back box and fix it with the 6 M3 x 12 flat head screws (4 screws for touchDock mini).
The charging block needs to be on the left side for horizontal installation (touchDock mini on the right side) or on the bottom side for vertical installation.
-
Optional step for some touchDock models and iPad models:
Depending on the docking station model and the iPad you want to use there is a second set of guide rails included.
Refer to the included note in the box to find out if you need to swap the guide rails for your iPad.
If necessary, unscrew the guide rails from the glass panel and replace them before attaching the glass panel to the docking station.
-
Attach the glass panel to the Aluminum arm on the docking station and secure with the 4 flat head screws M3 x 6.
Important Note: Do not over-tighten the screws to avoid breaking the glass panel.
-
Connect the other end of the keypad control cable to the connector on the magnetic glass frame.
-
Attach the magnetic glass frame to the aluminum frame. The magnets will hold the glass frame.
-
Connect power AC or PoE+ power source to boot the docking station and proceed with setting up your touchDock using the iOS App „iRoom‘s iDock“
If you have installed the docking station with main power on or a PoE+ switch connected, disconnect the docking station now from power for 3 minutes before reconnecting to ensure proper functionality.
How to Dock
-
Press and hold any two quick keys on the glass frame for about 2 seconds until the glass panel slides out.
If the quick keys don‘t work you might have installed the docking station without turning off the main power before. Disconnect the docking station from power for 3 minutes before reconnecting to resolve the issue.
-
Insert the iPad from the right side or from the top depending on whether the touchDock is installed horizontally or vertically and slide it into the guide rails. Push the iPad towards the charging connector until you hear a click noise.
The glass panel will slide back automatically as soon as the charging connector makes full contact with the charging port of the iPad.
How to Insert or Change the Quick Key Icons
-
Remove the iPad from the docking station.
-
Disconnect the docking station from power.
-
Take off the magnetic glass frame carefully since it‘s connected to the keypad control cable.
-
Disconnect the keypad control cable from the port on the backside of the glass frame.
-
If icons were inserted previously pull them out with a tweezer or a cardboard knife and your thumb.
-
Choose the icons you wish to use from the included icon sheet.
-
Insert them into the slots.
-
Reconnect the keypad control cable and put the glass frame back on the docking station.
-
If you haven‘t disconnected the docking station from power before, disconnect it now for 3 minutes before reconnecting to ensure proper functionality.
