OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
CONTROL PANEL AND INDICATOR LIGHTS

luma LFC025BK00 2.5L Electric Food Waste Composter 2

  1. ON/OFF light = blue
  2. Drying, Grinding, and Cooling indicator light = blue
  3. Filter Reset light = red

ON/OFF function:
When the device is plugged in, touch the ON/OFF button once to begin the composting process indicated by a solid blue light. Touch the button again to pause the process indicated by the blue light flashing. Touch the button once more to resume the process. To shut off the device, press and hold the button for 3 seconds. The light on the power button will fade and the unit will shut down. You will need to wait a few seconds before the unit can be powered on. Touch the ON/OFF button to turn it on. After powering on again, the machine will start working from the original state.

The composter works in the order of Drying – Grinding – Cooling stages. In each working state, the corresponding indicator light will light up.

Drying stage:
When the device is first powered on, the ON/OFF will light up blue as well as the Drying indicator light. The unit will enter the drying stage. The maximum working time in this stage is around 70 minutes. The drying length depends on the water content of the food waste. After completing this stage, the device will automatically switch to the grinding stage. At the same time, the Drying indicator light will go out.

Grinding stage:
After entering the grinding stage, the Grinding indicator will light up blue. This will be the stage with the longest duration, lasting at most 5 hours. After completing this mode, the device will automatically switch to the cooling stage and the Grinding indicator light will turn off.

Cooling stage:
After entering the cooling stage, the Cooling indicator light turns blue. This stage is the last mode in the process. The cooling stage has the shortest duration, lasting 10 minutes. After this stage is completed, the device will go on standby accompanied by a single beep, and all blue lights will clear.

Filter Reset:
When the carbon filter has accumulated 300 hours of use time, the Filter Reset indicator will light up red. Once you replace the filter, reset the red light by pressing and holding the Filter Reset button for 3 seconds. This will clear the red light and reset the use time to 0.

OPERATION AND USAGE

1. Twist the viewing lid off by turning counterclockwise to the unlocked position. Then remove the bucket out from the main body.

2. Place your food waste inside the bucket.

3. Insert the bucket filled with food waste back in the main body. Twist the bucket left and right to ensure that the bucket is installed in place.

4. Place the viewing lid back into position and turn clockwise to lock it in place. The unit will not start until the lid is secured in locked position.

OTHER OPERATING PRECAUTIONS
  • Make sure that no food waste falls out of the bucket and into the main unit. This may damage the internal components. It is recommended to remove the bucket from the main body before adding food waste to it.
  • Do not overload the bucket with food waste. Keep the food waste below the indicator line. For softer food waste that fill volume quickly, you may compact it below the line.
  • If, for reason you need to pause the composting process using the ON/OFF function, it is not recommended to do so during the Drying stage; this will reduce the overall quality of your compost at the end of the working cycle.

Note: Pausing the device to add more food waste may affect the accuracy of the required run time calculation. This will extend the overall cycle time. By the end of the cycle, the food waste may not have been completely processed. In this case, you may need to run the entire working cycle again.

Carbon Filter
The carbon filter is made of environmentally friendly and degradable materials, which can decompose and will not pollute the soil. It may be discarded after replacing. Make sure the composter filter light is also reset.

CARBON FILTER REPLACEMENT AND INSTALLATION

1. The Filter Reset indicator shown indicates that the carbon filter is due for a replacement. Touch and hold for 3 seconds. The red Filter Reset light will fade and the filter use time resets to zero.

2. Open the carbon filter cover shown and pull the cover out of the main body.

3. The exposed carbon filter may now be removed by pulling on the protruding knot. Now, remove the film of new carbon filter and insert it into the slot. Orient it so that the imprinted arrow is on top and pointing towards the main body.

4. Place the cover over the carbon filter and the replacement is completed.

FAQ

1. How can I extend the life of the deodorizing carbon filter?
The filter indicator light turns red to remind you to replace the filter box every 3 months or approximately 300 working hours (whichever comes first). The indicator light is just a suggestion. You can judge whether it needs to be replaced based on the actual usage and smell. The life of the carbon filter will depend on the frequency of use. Add citrus peels (lemon, orange, etc.) when operating the machine to help reduce the smell and extend the life. Adding coffee grounds to your regular cycle can also help reduce odors and can also help keep the bin clean.

2. How do I keep the bucket clean?
The coating design of the bucket of the Luma Food Waste Composter allows it to selfclean in every cycle. It is normal to have residue on the bottom and sides of the barrel after some cycles. Just empty the processed contents and make sure the axle can rotate smoothly before proceeding to the next cycle. If a clog occurs and you are unable to rotate the axle, soak the bucket in boiling and soapy water overnight to loosen the clog.

3. I hear a “crash” or “squeak” when the machine is running. Is this normal?
It is completely normal to hear these sounds while the machine is running. Although most of the operation is quiet, when the cycle encounters particularly dense, high-fiber or moisture-rich food waste, it will cause the bucket to make sounds while operating.

4. How do I reset my machine?
If necessary, you can reset it by following the steps below:

  1. Connect the machine to the power supply and put the machine in standby mode.
  2. Press and hold the ON/OFF button for 3 seconds. After a beep sounds, release your finger and the device will turn off.
  3. Press the ON/OFF button again to reset the machine back to working condition.

Note: It is recommended to unplug your Luma Food Waste Composter from a power source if you do not plan to use it for long periods of time.
