INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
BEFORE YOU INSTALL YOUR STEPS
Make sure that you’ve reviewed the StepAbove Qualification Guide to determine the correct StepAbove for your unit. There is a chance the step won’t fit if the correct measurements weren’t taken before purchasing.
Which Hinge Plate model do you have?
There are two potential options of the hinge plate for your StepAbove. Refer to the images on the next page to determine which hinge you have on your step. Follow the instructions that correspond to the hinge version you have.
HINGE 1
Please take a moment to review the StepAbove® Qualification Guide before proceeding with these Installation Instructions.
STEP 1:
Remove the step transition strip between the threshold of the existing door
and the floor.
STEP 2:
Place the StepAbove® in the center of the door opening.
Adjust the steps until the hinge plate is centered.
STEP 3:
Lift the StepAbove® and lock into place. Ensure that the latches have
engaged with the flange of the door jamb.
The latches may need to be adjusted in or out; this can be accomplished by
loosening the bolts and sliding it into place.
NOTE: Some doors may require the interior wood or trim work to be
notched. For assistance with any modification, please call our Parts
Department at 574-293-1581.
STEP 4:
Slide the front of the hinge plate up to the inside of the threshold so that
it sits flush.
STEP 5:
With the StepAbove® located in the center of the door opening, measure the
distance between the inside lip on the door jamb and the outside edge of the
step.
The clearance on each side should be at least 1/8″.
STEP 6:
Mount the (2) outermost screws onto the StepAbove® hinge plate.
STEP 7:
Lower the steps and then shut both the screen door and the outside door to
ensure they close properly with the StepAbove® in the lowered position.
STEP 8:
Raise the StepAbove® into the locked position and secure the hinge plate with
the remaining screws.
NOTE: The legs of the StepAbove® are adjustable and may need to be
retracted in order to fit inside the door opening.
STEP 9:
Make sure the StepAbove® operates smoothly and aligns correctly.
HINGE 2
STEP 1:
Remove the step transition strip between the threshold of the existing door
and the floor.
STEP 3:
With the StepAbove® centered and flush against the threshold, attach one screw
in each of the top corner holes where the plate is notched.
STEP 3:
With the StepAbove® centered and flush against the threshold, attach one screw
in each of the top corner holes where the plate is notched.
STEP 4:
Lift the StepAbove® and lock into place. Ensure that the latches have engaged
with the flange of the door jamb.
The latches may need to be adjusted in or out; this can be accomplished by
loosening the bolts and sliding it into place.
NOTE: Some doors may require the interior wood or trim work to be
notched. For assistance with any modification, please call our Parts
Department at 574-293-1581.
STEP 5:
Lower the steps and then shut both the screen door and the outside door to
ensure they close properly with the StepAbove® in the lowered position.
STEP 6:
Raise the StepAbove® into the locked position and secure the hinge plate with
the (6) remaining screws. There will be a gap between the hinge plate and the
threshold.
NOTE: The legs of the StepAbove® are adjustable and may need to be retracted
in order to fit inside the door opening.
STEP 7:
Make sure the StepAbove® operates smoothly and aligns correctly.
