BOSE PANARAY MSA12X Digital Beam-Steering Loudspeaker User Guide
BOLD SOUND. HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT.
Whether it’s an auditorium, place of worship, lecture hall, or museum, sound is a critical part of the experience. Because the right audio solution can bring a space together — and enhance an experience — like nothing else. But loudspeakers often get in the way visually and lack the features and flexibility to fully support these kinds of spaces
Panaray loudspeakers from Bose Professional are the answer. They offer a slim, attractive design and deliver a bold audio experience: full-range sound, outstanding vocal intelligibility, and agile coverage control to conquer even the most acoustically challenging spaces
THE AGILE INSTRUMENT FOR YOUR NEXT PROJECT
The Panaray MSA12X loudspeaker brings a new layer of control and convenience to your next installation. Self powered, the MSA12X loudspeaker offers electronic beam steering in a cost effective, building-block solution that is easier to design with, easier to order, and easier to install.
Key features .
Full-range sound with extended LF beam control delivers both speech and music reinforcement Digitally-steerable vertical coverage and sleek design for a clean, unobtrusive appearance Simplified design process for flexible installations using 1, 2 or 3 modules Discrete transducer amplification and DSP processing Twelve drivers (600 watts) per module Dante® digital audio network interface and line-level analog input Single- and dual-beam presets developed to match common room geometries and coverage needs 160° horizontal coverage for accommodating wide room shapes, including fan-shaped rooms Integrated setup, preset recall, and monitoring using ControlSpace Designer software All brackets and interconnect cabling included — no extra parts to order
Dante-ready .
NETWORK AUDIO AND CONTROL
Send digital audio to the MSA12X through the integrated Dante network connection. Also use this port for Control Space network integration, enabling control, monitoring, and beam preset recall from Control Space-compatible processors, end user controls, and third-party control systems. Or use the analog input for basic applications.
Bose Array Tool software .
VIRTUAL SOUND DESIGN FOR THE REAL WORLD
Bose Array Tool software helps you create loudspeaker designs quickly and
precisely. Get to work right away with an intuitive three-step interface,
familiar workflow, and direct-field calculation engine, which give you the
freedom Add in Panaray MA12 or MA12EX as delay or fill loudspeakers. And
easily combine the MSA12X with Bose processors, amplifiers, sub woofers, and
end-user hardware or software control to deliver seamless, end-to-end
solutions
Modular configuration .
BUILDING BLOCKS AND COLORS
With the modularity of the MSA12X, you can combine one, two, or three units per column depending on your client’s needs. Get system design done earlier using simple criteria based on throw distance, low-frequency coverage, and SPL requirements. Then select from just two models — white or black — and paint them if needed.
Typical Usable Throw Distance(4) 1
Max/Peak SPL (3)

Double
2 m (78 in) 25 m (82 ft) 96 / 102 dB at 20 m (66 ft) 250 Hz
Triple

to experiment. Select one of three beam patterns, drag throw lines and beam angles over the seating area surface, and evaluate the coverage prediction in real-time.
Step 1 Draw surfaces for listening areas.
Step 2 Select and arrange loudspeakers.
Step 3 Send module configuration using Control Space Designer.
ADVANTAGES OF COLUMNAR ARRAY LOUDSPEAKERS
Columnar array speakers apply linear sound source theory, using driver units
that are arranged in a row. This provides better front-to-back SPL consistency
compared to pointsource designs. The columnar array design suppresses vertical
sound emissions, improves clarity, provides greater
resistance to feedback, and delivers far-reaching sound even in spaces with a
lot of reverberation. It also allows for digital beam steering for even more
precise and accurate coverage.
COVER MORE SEATS WITH BEAM STEERING
Traditional columnar arrays naturally confine vertical coverage for improved intelligibility and clarity. However, they must be aimed precisely toward listeners. Since the sound spread is limited, it takes more effort, and cost, to mount and aim additional loudspeakers. MSA12X uses the latest digital steering technologies and algorithms to direct sound where it’s needed — with fewer modules. Now, system designers can break free from traditional constraints by using a loudspeaker design that’s flexible and adaptable but stills delivers clear, consistent sound.
BEAM PATTERN OPTIONS
Select from three different beam pattern options based on mounting location of the array and the shape of the coverage area. Additionally, you can deploy Dual-beam Mode (shown below) in any sized module configuration (single, double, or triple), and with any combination of beam patterns.
The most basic beam pattern, allows you to steer the axis of the beam
vertically, then spread the beam from that axis.
Ideal for flat floor seating with the array bottom mounted slightly above ear
height of audience. Provides consistent coverage from the front to the back
row.
The Vocal Range Smoothing option — available on both Basic Steer/Spread and Flat-floor Optimized patterns — helps to maintain vocal-range tonal balance consistency throughout the target listening area. It also suppresses beam side-lobes with minimal reduction of headroom.
Good for covering a raked floor or flat floor from a relatively high array
position. Radiates using a vertically asymmetrical beam
By utilizing all the drivers of the array for both beams simultaneously, Dual-
beam Mode allows you to use any two beam patterns independently
END-USER PRESETS
When MSA12X is part of a networked Bose Control Space system, end users can switch between beam presets to instantly adapt sound coverage to their needs. Designers simply assign re callable beam presets to user interfaces — such as wall controls or the Control Space Remote app — or assign presets to scheduled timer events and third-party control systems. For example, re callable end- users presets could include: half-room or full-room coverage, conference room partitioning coverage, or balcony coverage
SMOOTHER INSTALLATIONS
Installing column loudspeakers can be unwieldy, so we designed the MSA12X to address many common challenges and make installation easier for you. First, the loudspeakers arrive at your job site with everything you need to mount any module configuration; just bring wall-mounting screws. Next, all models have the same dimensions; no special sizes to worry about. Product codes are simple, and global distribution means consistent and reliable product availability. Finally, with the included brackets and progressive “hang-and- mount” technique, you’ll find the installation process much more manageable.
