Change Android permissions on Google Fi

This article applies to Android phone users on Google Fi.

You can let Fi use location, microphone, and contact permissions on your phone. This lets Fi work best on your phone and makes sure you can send and receive calls and messages.

Manage permissions for Fi

For Android 12 and later:

  1. On your Android phone, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Privacy Permission manager.
  3. Select the permission you want to change.

If you turn off permissions, some parts of Fi may not work as well. For example, if you turn off microphone access, you may not be able to make phone calls.

Location

The Fi app uses your location to:

  • Check for new cellular and Wi-Fi connections to switch you to the best network possible.
  • Keep you connected with our international roaming partners when you travel internationally.
  • Send your phone location to emergency services on 911 or e911 calls in the US.
  • Help improve network quality with cell tower info and approximate location history.

Microphone

The Fi app uses your phone’s microphone when: ****

  • You make a phone call.
  • You use the Fi app to record a voicemail greeting.

Contacts

The Fi app uses your Contacts list to:

  • Correctly display the name of people you call and text or who call and text you.
  • Make sure your contacts don’t get blocked or identified as spam.
