• LION BRAND® crochet hook size H-8 (5 mm)

• LION BRAND® large-eyed blunt needle

GAUGE
16 dc = about 4 1/2 in. (11.5 cm).

STITCH EXPLANATIONS

Bobble (5-dc cluster) Yarn over, insert hook in indicated st and draw up a loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops, (yarn over, insert hook in same st and draw up a loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops) 4 times, yarn over and draw through all 6 loops on hook.
NOTES

1. The cowl is worked in the round in multiple stitch patterns, changing yarn color following a Stripe Sequence.
2. Change yarn color when working joining sl st of rnds, as follows: Work last st of rnd. Insert hook in first st or top of beg ch of rnd, yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete joining sl st. Proceed with a new color. Do not cut old colors. Carry colors not in use up inside of Cowl.
3. Gently push Bobbles to the RS of the piece, as needed.
4. If you find it difficult to join the beg ch into a ring without twisting the ch, Rnd 1 can be worked as a row, then joined into a rnd, as follows: Leaving a long beg tail, ch 102, dc in 4th ch from hook (3 skipped ch count as dc) and in each ch across; join with sl st in top of beg ch-3 – you will have 100 dc in this row/ rnd. Use beg tail to sew gap at the base of the first row closed. Proceed to Rnd 2.

STRIPE SEQUENCE

Work * 1 rnd with A, 1 rnd with B, 1 rnd with C, 1 rnd with A, 2 rnds with B, 1 rnd with C, 1 rnd with B, 1 rnd
with A, 1 rnd with C, 1 rnd with B, 2 rnds with A, 1 rnd with B, 1 rnd with A, 1 rnd with C, 1 rnd with B *, 1
rnd with A, 2 rnds with C, and 1 rnd with B, then rep from to once more for a total of 38 rnds.
COWL
With A, ch 100; taking care not to twist ch, join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as dc), SK same ch as joining sl st, dc in each rem ch around; join with sl st in top of beg ch-3 and change to B – you will have 100 dc in this rnd.
Rnd 2: With B, ch 1, sc in same st as joining sl st, sc in next st, Bobble in next st, sc in next 3 sts, Bobble in next st; rep from to last st, sc in last st; join with sl st in first sc and change to C – 25 Bobbles and 75 sc (for a total of 100 sts).
Rnd 3 : With C, ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in same st as joining sl st, sk next st, 2 dc in next st; rep from to last st, sk last st; join with sl st in top of beg ch-3 and change to A – 100 dc.
Rnd 4: With A, sk same st as joining sl st, sl st in next st, ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in same st, sk next st, 2 dc in next st; rep from around; join with sl st in top of beg ch-3 and change to B.
Rnd 5: With B, ch 3 (counts as hdc, ch 1), sk same st as joining sl st, hdc in next sp between 2-dc groups, ch 1, sk next 2 sts, hdc in next sp between 2-dc groups; rep from to last 2 sts, ch 1, sk last 2 sts; join with sl st in 2nd ch of beg ch-3 – 50 hdc and 50 ch-1 sps.
Rnd 6: With B, sl st in first ch-1 sp, ch 3 (counts as hdc, ch 1), hdc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, hdc in next ch-1 sp; rep from around, ch 1, join with sl st in 2nd ch of beg ch-3 and change to C.
Rnd 7: With C, rep Rnd 6 and change to B when working joining sl st.
Rnd 8:** With B, ch 3 (counts as dc), sk same st as joining sl st, dc in each ch-1 sp and dc around; join with sl st in top of beg ch-3 and change to A – 100 dc.
Rep Rnds 2-8 and continue changing yarn color following Stripe Sequence until all 38 rnds of the Stripe The sequence has been completed. You will end with a repeat of Rnd 3 as the last rnd you work.
Fasten off.

FINISHING

Weave in ends.
