- Rinse the shelves again and dry them with a cloth.
- The machine is now ready for use. (This is only necessary the very first time you use the machine, after you have unpacked it.)
USE
PREPARATION
- Wash the food and pat it dry with a towel or paper towel.
- Peeling the food prior to drying it does decrease the drying time, but it also results in the loss of valuable vitamins and minerals.
- Cut the food into pieces, slices or strips of approximately the same size and thickness. Remove seeds, pits, etc. if necessary. Cut away any damaged or bruised areas.
- Hard food (e.g. hard vegetables) and vegetables that may not be consumed raw are best if blanched first, so that it is semi-soft prior to drying. This decreases the drying time and ensures that less vitamins are lost. Make sure that the food is sufficiently dried prior to drying it.
FILLING THE TRAYS
- Divide the food evenly over the stainless steel trays. Do not allow pieces to overlap.
- Make sure that a maximum of 90 % of the tray is covered, in order to allow for good air circulation.
- Depending on the size of the food, the trays can be adjusted in height.
- Use the drying sheet for smaller food, such as herbs and berries, or for sticky food, such as bananas and tomatoes.
- Place the collection tray on the bottom of the food dryer to keep it clean. You can also use the collection tray for making fruit leather.
DRYING FOOD
-
Close the door after filling the shelves. Plug the power cord into a socket. You will hear a signal and the display will light up.
-
Press the on/off button.
-
Set the temperature. The appliance is automatically programmed at 70°C with a timer set at 10 hours. Press the temperature button to set the temperature (35-75°C). By increasing and decreasing the temperature, you can choose the temperature you want. You can set it per 5°C.
-
Set the time. Press the timer button. By increasing and decreasing the time, you can choose the time you want (1-24 hours). This can be set per hour.
-
When both the desired temperature and time have been selected, press the start button and the appliance will start drying. You can hear the fan running and the ‘H’ of the time display will flash.
-
During operation, the time on the display will count down. If the remaining time is less than onehour, the countdown time will be displayed in minutes. When the set time has elapsed, the appliance will beep and switch off automatically. The fan will continue to run for 10 seconds.
- The table above provides the recommended temperatures for different types of food. This is only a guideline.
- The best temperature or time setting depends on several factors, such as the humidity of the food, the humidity in the air, the thickness of the food, the volume of food to be dried, the number of shelves used, personal preference, etc.
- To make it easier to determine the settings, we recommend keeping track of the weight and times for drying.
- Always use the food dryer in a dust-free, dry, and well-ventilated area.
- While drying food, the temperature and timer can be adjusted at any time, if so required.
- If you want to stop drying earlier, press the on/off button.
- Check the status of your food every hour.
PRESERVATION OF DRIED FOOD
- Allow the food to cool completely before putting it away
- Save the food in air-tight jars or bags so that the food cannot absorb any moisture. In this way the food can be preserved for a long time.
- Save the food in a dry, dark place.
- Store in a cool place, preferably at 15°C or below.
- Do not use a metal container for storing dried food.
- If properly packed and stored, dried fruit, vegetables, herbs, nuts, and bread can be kept for up to one year.
- If properly packed and stored, dried meat, poultry, and fish can be kept for up to three months in the refrigerator or up to one year in the freezer.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
- Turn off the machine and remove the plug from the outlet before cleaning the machine.
- Allow the machine to cool.
