How to prepare your iPad for trade-in from Europe

If you opted to trade in your iPad when you purchased a new Apple product, you’ll get a trade-in kit in the mail with everything you need to ship your iPad to Apple. Here’s everything you need to know about preparing and packing your iPad to trade it in.

Before you ship your iPad

  1. Back up your iPad.
  2. Remove your iPad from your Apple ID device list.
  3. Erase your iPad.
  4. Remove the SIM card from your iPad if it uses one and keep it in a safe place. If you don’t remove your SIM card before sending your iPad to Apple, Apple won’t be able to return it to you. Apple isn’t responsible for data loss.
  5. Remove all screen protectors and/or cases. If these items are included in the box, they will be recycled and cannot be returned to you.

Pack your iPad

Important : You must initiate a separate trade-in for each product that you want to trade in and pack each trade-in product in a separate box. More information about how to trade in or recycle your Apple product is available online.

  1. Unfold the cardboard mailer and the padded flaps at the end of the cardboard mailer. Place your iPad between the padded flaps.

  2. Fold the padded flaps securely over the iPad.

  3. Re-fold the cardboard mailer until the last panel.

  4. Remove the tape cover strip from the last panel of the cardboard mailer. Fold the last flap of the cardboard mailer over and press down firmly to secure it with the exposed tape strip.*

Ship your iPad to Apple

  1. If a return shipping label is included, place it on the outside of the packaging. If applicable, make sure the return shipping label completely covers the old shipping label, or that you remove the old shipping label before applying the new shipping label.
  2. If a commercial invoice is included, place it on the outside of the packaging. Failure to put the commercial invoice on the outside of the packaging may render the package undeliverable. Commercial invoices are only necessary in some European countries.
  3. Find the name of the courier on the label (or elsewhere in the packing materials) and visit its website to arrange a collection or find a drop-off location.
  4. Ask the courier for proof of collection.
  5. Check your new device shipment email for a link to check the status of your trade-in.
