Improve Health and Activity & Privacy
Improve Health and Activity is designed to protect your information and enable you to choose what you share.
Improve Health & Activity sends activity, workout, and health-related information from your iOS device and Apple Watch to Apple in order to develop, improve, and understand the effectiveness of health, activity, and fitness features. This may include raw and analyzed data from health and activity- related sensors. Your data will not be used for any other purpose, and does not include personally identifiable information.
The information collected as part of Improve Health & Activity includes data that is shown in the Health and Fitness apps on your iOS device and the Activity app on your Apple Watch, including certain data you have entered (such as age, sex, height, weight, and wheelchair mode state), information from the Irregular Rhythm Notifications feature (such as frequency of notifications, number and type of heart rhythm measurements, and the possible causes of inconclusive measurements), information from the ECG app (such as number of ECG recordings taken, results, and any associated symptoms), information from the Blood Oxygen feature (such as frequency, number, and type of successful and unsuccessful measurements, quality of measurements, session duration, and the possible causes of unsuccessful measurements), and information from your Medical ID (such as completed fields and your engagement with the feature). Data sent to Apple may also include activity and motion data (such as stand hours, exercise minutes, flights climbed, move ring completion percentage, physical activity level, workout type, accelerometer, gyroscope, and barometer pressure data), wrist state and orientation, as well as related data displayed in the Health app (such as VO₂ max; number of times fallen and other fall and impact information; information, symptoms, and results related to and derived from menstrual cycles, pregnancy, and contraceptives; sleep schedules and how it differs from recorded time asleep; motion data used to determine time asleep; audio and sound exposure level; and heart-related measurements and visualizations). Apple may also receive information about whether other fitness apps are installed, your approximate location, how long you have been using Apple Watch, and your enablement of and engagement with activity and health-related notifications and features. All of the above data may be aggregated or otherwise combined in a form that does not personally identify you and analyzed on your iOS device and Apple Watch before being sent to Apple. This data may also be used by Apple to identify trends and estimate metrics for certain activity and health-related features.
In limited circumstances, Apple may share certain aggregated data with appropriate health and medical regulatory authorities as needed to support regulatory submissions. Data shared will not include any individual-level data or data that may identify you.
By enabling Improve Health & Activity, you agree and consent to Apple’s and its subsidiaries’ and agents’ transmission, collection, maintenance, processing, use, and disclosure of this information as described above. Apple may store this information with trusted third-party service providers.
At all times, information collected by Apple will be treated in accordance with Apple’s Privacy Policy, which can be found at www.apple.com/privacy
