General Warnings /!__
A warning statement in this manual identifies a condition or practice which, if not corrected or discontinued immediately, could lead to patient injury, illness, or death.
WARNING: This instrument is designed for oral, rectal, or axillary use
only.
WARNING: High prolonged fever requires medical attention, especially for
young children. Please contact your physician.
WARNING: Keep out of reach of unsupervised children. Components may be
harmful if swallowed.
WARNING: Stop using the thermometer if it operates erratically or if the
display malfunctions.
WARNING: Rectal temperatures vary by approximately 0.9°F/0.5°C.
WARNING: Avoid taking temperature for 30 minutes after physical exercise,
bathing, dining, or drinking hot or cold beverages.
WARNING: Allow the thermometer to warm naturally to room temperature
before using. Performance may be affected if operated or stored outside stated
temperature and humidity ranges or if the patient’s temperature is below the
ambient (room) temperature.
WARNING: After using, clean the thermometer and store it in the case.
Clean the unit by wiping it with a dry cloth and disinfecting the probe with
isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. See cleaning instructions for additional details.
CAUTION: Keep thermometer away from direct sunlight, moisture, extreme
temperatures, or dust.
CAUTION: Do not boil, bite, bend, drop, or disassemble the thermometer.
CAUTION: Do not open the unit except to replace the battery.
CAUTION: Do not use this device close to strong electromagnetic fields,
such as mobile telephones.
CAUTION: Dispose of batteries in accordance with locally applicable
regulations, not with domestic waste.
How to Use
NOTE: Be sure the probe tip is clean before using.
- Disinfect the probe with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol before using.
- Press and release the multifunction button. You will hear a short beep then all segments will display (Figure 1) for 1 second with a red backlight for 0.5 seconds and then a green backlight for 0.5 seconds. This is a function check indicating the unit is working properly.
- The display will then show the last reading memory with a red or green backlight (depending on the temperature) for 3 seconds. When the scrolling dash “-” displays, you can start measurement.
- When the measurement is complete you will hear a long beep (1 second) and see a green backlight when the temperature is between 89.6°F (34°C) to 99.3°F (37.4°C). You will hear four beeps and see a red backlight when the temperature is between 99.5°F (37.5°C) to 109.2°F (42.9°C). If the temperature is higher than 109.2°F (42.9°C), you’ll hear two beeps, see the “H” icon and a red backlight, and hear four additional beeps.
- The reading will automatically be stored in memory, but we recommend you manually record the temperature and time for reference.
- The unit will automatically turn off in about 5 minutes. To prolong battery life, press the multifunction button to turn off the device manually.
Ensuring Accurate Temperature Measurement
We recommend using probe covers (Figure 2) with all digital stick
thermometers. NOTE: This model uses “predictive” technology. The average
measurement time is approximately 8 seconds for oral, rectal, or underarm
use. Actual times may vary depending upon the individual, ambient room
conditions, and the method used.
Oral Use: ( ages 4 years and older): Place probe under patient’s tongue
(Figure 3) and close mouth.
The peak temperature should be reached in about 8 seconds. Opening the mouth
or improper placement of the probe tip may affect read time. Rectal Use:
Lubricate the probe cover with a water-soluble jelly for easier insertion; do
not use petroleum jelly, as it may cause an inaccurate reading.
Gently insert the tip of the probe no more than 1/2 inch into the rectum.
STOP if you meet any resistance.
The sensing unit is on the very tip of the robe and there is no need to insert
the probe deep into the rectum.
Dispose of the used probe cover and clean the thermometer as recommended.
Axillary Use: Wipe armpit with a dry towel. Place the probe in the
patient’s armpit (Figure 4) and keep the patient’s arm pressed firmly against
the body. The time required for an accurate underarm temperature is maybe 12
seconds or longer depending on the placement of the probe and closure of the
arm against the body.
Switching Temperature Modes
From the off position, press and hold the multifunction button until the
display appears with a flashing scale (F°/C°) (Figure 5). Press it again to
switch between °F or °C. Power off automatically after the switch is complete.
Special Features
Last-Temperature Memory: Press the multifunction button to turn it on. The
last reading will display with a green backlight (temperature lower than
99.5°F / 37.5°C) or red backlight (higher than 99.5°F / 37.5°C) for 1 second.
Battery Replacement
- When the symbol “ “ appears in the lower right of the display, the battery needs to be replaced.
- Turn battery covers to unlock position and remove.
- Remove the old battery and replace 3V (CR2032) battery with the positive (+) side facing up.
- Replace the battery cover on the thermometer and turn to lock position.
Cleaning and Disinfecting
Do not use a corrosive detergent to clean the unit.
Clean and disinfect the thermometer before and after each use.
-
The use of probe covers is recommended to help avoid spreading germs, and to keep the thermometer clean.
The thermometer should be cleaned after use even when probe covers are used. -
Wipe probe with a clean cloth dipped in a disinfectant solution such as 70-75% isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol solution or soap and water.
-
Wipe off disinfectant residue.
Care and Storage
- Do NOT drop or crush, as this may damage the thermometer.
- Do NOT dismantle or modify devices other than replacing batteries.
- Store unit in a protective case while not in use. Do NOT store the device in an extreme environment with direct sunlight or high/low temperatures, or in a location with high humidity or severe dust.
- The manufacturer recommends verifying the accuracy by an authorized laboratory every two years.
