You can remove them, but it will take some pressure and a flat head screwdriver because they are lightly glued. Six of them were easily removed so I could paint.

They already had holes. On the outside of my toy hauler trailer, there were factory 6 1/2″ speakers. If I recall correctly, the mounting holes were a little smaller in diameter, but they nearly lined up.
