Digital Thermometer

This clinical digital electronic thermometer is for the intermittent measurement and monitoring of human adult and pediatric body temperatures; orally, rectally and under the arm.
This thermometer IS intended to be used:

  • For self-measurement/monitoring of human body temperature whereas the person being measured may be the user/operator of the device.
  • Adults and pediatric
  • With an optional Probe Cover (probe cover not mandatory) This thermometer IS NOT intended for use with:
  • Neonatal

GENERAL WARNINGS

  • Please contact your physician in case of prolonged fever as this requires medical attention, especially for young children.

  • Do NOT leave children unsupervised while taking their temperature.
  • Do NOT allow children to run or walk while taking their temperature as the device could present a hazard.
  • Do NOT dispose of the device or battery in fire; the battery may explode.
  • Do NOT attempt to recharge the battery.
  • Do NOT open the thermometer as the battery is not replaceable.
  • Do NOT use a metal tool to remove batteries; doing so may short circuit the terminals.

  • Batteries and electronic instruments must be disposed of in accordance with the locally applicable regulations, and not as domestic waste.
  • Keep battery away from children. Harmful if swallowed.
  • It is recommended that this digital thermometer be checked for calibration every 2 years.
  • This device contains sensitive electronics components. Avoid strong electrical or electromagnetic fields in the direct vicinity of the device (e.g., mobile telephones, microwave ovens).
  • These can lead to temporary im-pairment of the measuring accuracy. Move the device to another location if interference is determined and maintain a minimum distance of 11 ft from such devices when using this unit.
  • Performance of this device may be degraded if:
  • Used or stored outside the relevant specified temperature and humidity range
  • The device is exposed to mechanical shock
  • The patient’s temperature is lower than that of the ambient Do not store the unit under direct sunlight, at a high temperature , or in high humidity or dust.

Turning on the Thermometer

To turn on the thermometer, press the ON/OFF button

  1. Display should read “188.8” to confirm normal function.
  2. Next, a measuring screen showing a «L» and a flashing «°F» is displayed (at an ambient temperature of less than 90°F ).
  3. The thermometer is ready for use when the measuring screen is displayed.

Function Test

The thermometer performs a self-test automatically each time it is turned on. If a malfunction is detected, «ERR» will appear on the display, and the thermometer will no longer work. If this occurs, the thermometer must be replaced.

Using the Thermometer

Important: This thermometer can be used with or without a probe cover. If a probe cover is used, place it over the measuring tip as shown in the diagram.
If a Probe Cover is not used, cleaning should be done per the instructions.
While a measurement is in progress, the current temper-ature is displayed and the temperature symbol will blink (symbol =°F). When the temperature symbol stops blink-ing, the reading is complete (blinking stops when the increase in temperature is less than 0.1 °F in 6 seconds). To prolong the battery life, turn off the thermometer by briefly pressing the ON/OFF button once the reading is complete. Otherwise the thermometer will automatically turn off after approximately 8 minutes.

Measuring Methods

ORAL USE: (for ages four and up)

  • Do not drink hot or cold fluids, exercise, smoke, or perform other activities that will raise or lower temperature readings when compared to your normal, average temperature. The mouth should remain closed up to 5 minutes before taking a reading.
  • Press the power button and when the measuring screen is displayed (L°F), place the probe tip under the tongue in the position shown by the check marks (see diagram). Instruct children not to bite down on the probe.
  • The peak temperature should be reached in approxi-mately 60 seconds. Opening the mouth or improper placement of the probe tip could result in a longer time for a reading.

UNDERARM (AXILLARY) USE:

  • Wipe underarm with a dry towel.
  • Place probe tip in armpit and bring arm down against the body. The measuring sensor should be pointing upward in the same direction as your body if possible.
  • To receive more reliable results we recommend to measure temperature orally or rectally. Approximate duration for an axillary meas- urement is 5 to 10 minutes.

RECTAL USE:

  • Commonly used for babies, young children or when it is difficult to take an oral or underarm temperature.
  • After placing the probe cover on the thermometer, lubricate with a water-soluble solution such as lubricating jelly.
  • Gently insert the probe tip no more than 1/2 inch or 1-2 cm into the rectum. Do not force the tip into the rectum if resistance is encountered.
  • Dispose of the used probe cover and wash the thermometer as recommended.
  • The peak temperature should be reached in approximately 60 seconds.

Cleaning

Clean thermometer before and after every use:
Clean sensor tip with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Wipe dry with sterile cotton ball.

Battery Exhaustion

When the “▼” symbol (upside-down triangle) appears on the right side of the display, the battery is exhausted
and the thermometer needs to be replaced.
