INTRODUCTION
The non-contact infrared thermometer Helpmation has been developed by using the latest infrared technology. This technology allows temporal artery (TA) temperature to be taken at a distance of max. 3-5 cm away from the forehead. It has been demonstrated that this method of TA temperature measurement is more precise than the tympanic thermometry and better tolerated than rectal thermometry (1). However, as with other types of thermometers, it is essential to use the thermometer properly in order to obtain reliable and stable results.

NORMAL TEMPERATURES ACCORDING TO AGE
Age | °C | °F |
---|---|---|
0-2 years | 36.4-38.0 | 97.5-100.4 |
3-10 years | 36.1-37.8 | 97.0-100.0 |
11-65 years | 35.9-37.6 | 96.6-99.7 |
> 65 years | 35.8-37.5 | 96.4-99.5 |
PRECAUTIONS BEFORE USE
The thermometer Helpmation is pre-set at the factory. It is not necessary to calibrate the device when starting.
In order to obtain reliable and stable results, you are advised each time there is a significant change in the ambient temperature due to a change in environment, to allow the thermometer to acclimatize to this ambient temperature for 15 to 20 minutes before using it. It is important to allow 1-minute interval between two measurements.
FUNCTIONS
- Special design to take the Human Body Temperature from a distance.
- Reliable and stable measurement, thanks to the advantage Infrared Detection System.
- Audible alarm if the temperature is too high.
- Three colors backlit LCD display.
- Temperature can be displayed in either Celsius or Fahrenheit.
- Automatic power-off (30 seconds) to save energy.
- Practical, easy to use.
- Longevity use (100.000 reading).
The thermometer can also be used to measure the temperature of a baby-bottle or bath, or room temperature (by using the Surface Temp or Room function). This function is in accordance with the Directive 89/339/EEC Electromagnetic compatibility.
USAGE
- Install batteries (please see Changing the batteries)
- For the first use or when inserting new batteries wait around 10 minutes for the warm-up of the device.
- Aim towards the forehead, from a distance of max. 3-5 cm, press the measuring button SCAN, the temperature is displayed in 1 second.
- Before taking the temperature, make sure to remoe hair and perspiration from the forehead.
PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS WHEN TAKING A TEMPERATURE
In order to ensure that precise and accurate temperature measurements are obtained, it is essential that each user has received adequate information. Temperature should be take in a neutral context. The patient must not have undertaken vigorous physical activity prior taking the temperature.
Be aware of physiological variations in temperature which must be take into consideration when evaluating the results:
- temperature increases by 0,5°C between 6am and 3 pm
- women have a temperature that is higher, on average, by around 0,2°C
- women temperature also varies in accordance with their ovarian cycle. It rises by 0,5 °C in the second half of the cycle and at the early stages of pregnancy.
- when sitting, temperature is lower by about 0,3 – 0,4°C than when standing
HOW TO TAKE A TEMPERATURE
Aim at the forehead, over the right temporal region, from a distance of max. 3-5 cm, press the button SCAN and the temperature is instantly displayed. Do not measure the temperature on other parts of the body (hand, abdomen, etc.). The measured results will not be correct.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION WHEN TAKING A TEMPERATURE
Please observe the following before any temperature measurement to ensure a stable and reliable result:
- push back the hair from the forehead
- wipe away any perspiration and make-up from the forehead
- avoid any drafts (e.g. from nasal specs, air conditioning …)
- allow a 1-minute interval between two measurements
- each time there is a significant change in the ambient temperature due to a change in environment, to allow the thermometer to acclimatise to this ambient temperature for at least 15 minutes before using it
THREE COLORS BACKLIT LCD DISPLAY
Green: normal temperature ≤ 37.3 ° C (99.1 ° F)
Orange color: increased temperature 37.4 to 37.9 ° C (99.2 to 100.2 ° F)
Red: high fever ≥ 38 ° C (100.3 ° F)

38 ° C). The alarm beeps once. If the temperature is higher than or equal to
the alarm temperature (default value is 38 ° C), the alarm beeps „DI“ 5 times.
If the temperature in SURFACE mode is higher than 60 ° C, HI will appear on
the display.
Selection of measurements in °C or °F
Turn on the thermometer, then press the °C/°F button and select the desired
measurement method in °C or °F.
ALARM ON / OFF

seconds. The display shows „ON“ – the alarm is on, OFF – the alarm is off.
Press the °C/°F button to toggle between ON and OFF and press the MODE button
to confirm the alarm on or off selection. To exit the setting, press the SCAN
button.
NOTICE!
To obtain the internal temperature of the body, always use the „BODY“ mode.
Please, make sure to select „Surface temp“ mode for an external area reading.
CALIBRATION OF THE THERMOMETER
Thermometer factory-set. Depending on various skin types and thicknesses,
there may be temperature differences.
Turn on the thermometer, then press and hold the MODE button for 3 seconds.
The display shows the information „F4“. Press the °C/°F button to change the
setting by 0.1 °C. Save the setting by pressing the MODE button. To exit the
setting, press the SCAN button. The factory setting of the thermometer is 0.0
°C. The thermometer can be readjusted between -1.0 °C and 1.0 °C.
In the cases of seasonal or environmental changes, verification and adjustment should be carried out.
CHANGING THE BATTERIES
When the LCD screen displays a blinking „Battery“ icon, the batteries are used. Open the lid and change the batteries, taking great care with the correct positioning. (“+“ on the battery to „+“ in the battery compartment and „-“ on the battery to „-“ in the battery compartment).
A mistake with this could cause damage of the
device and compromise the guarantee of your thermometer.
Never use rechargeable batteries. Use only alkaline batteries for single
usage.

TROUBLESHOOTING
If you have problems while using your thermometer, please refer to this guide to help resolve the problem. If the problem persists, please contact our authorised service department.
-
The screen displays temperature higher than 42,9 °C (109,2°F):
The temperature is in Fahrenheit. Change the measurement to Celsius by pressing °C/°F button. -
The screen displays temperature lower than 32°C (89,6°F):
To take the surface temperature, press the “BODY” button and set to the reading called “Body” , If the device is in Surface Temp Mode, the 32°C (89.6°F) temperature displayed is showing the external temperature of your body, rather than the internal. -
The display shows the message „HI“:
When „HI“ is displayed on the thermometer display, the temperature is higher than 43 °C (109.2 °F) in „Body“ mode. -
The display shows the message „Lo“:
When the „Lo“ information appears on the thermometer display, the temperature is lower than the thermometer range. In „Body“ mode, the temperature is below 32 °C
(89.6 °F). -
This may be due to the following:
• remove hair from the forehead and wipe off any sweat
• the measuring distance is longer than 5 cm from the forehead in BODY mode
• the interval between individual measurements must be 1 minute
• do not be draughty when measuring temperature
• make sure you measure the desired temperature in the correct thermometer setting (BODY, SURFACE, ROOM)
