General Warnings
A warning statement in this manual identifies a condition or practice
which, if not corrected or discontinued immediately, could lead to patient
injury, illness, or death.
WARNING: This instrument is designed for oral, rectal, or axillary use
only.
WARNING: High prolonged fever requires medical attention, especially for
young children. Please contact your physician.
WARNING: Keep out of reach of unsupervised children. Components may be
harmful if swallowed.
WARNING: Stop using the thermometer if it operates erratically or if the
display malfunctions.
WARNING: Avoid taking temperature for 15 minutes after physical exercise,
bathing, dining, or drinking hot or cold beverages.
WARNING: Allow the thermometer to warm naturally to room temperature
before using. Performance may be affected if operated or stored outside stated
temperature and humidity ranges or if the patient’s temperature is below the
ambient (room) temperature.
WARNING: After using, clean the unit by wiping it with a dry cloth and
disinfecting the probe with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. See cleaning
instructions for additional details.
CAUTION: Keep thermometer away from direct sunlight, moisture, extreme
temperatures, or dust.
CAUTION: Do not boil, bite, bend, drop, or disassemble the thermometer.
CAUTION: Do not open the unit except to replace the battery.
CAUTION: Dispose of batteries in accordance with locally applicable
regulations, not with domestic waste.
CAUTION: Do not autoclave or immerse the thermometer in water or any
other liquid. The unit is not waterproof. Please note the cleaning procedures
described in this manual.
How to Use
- Disinfect the probe with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol before using.
- We recommend using probe covers with all digital stick thermometers. If using, place the cover over the tip of the unit.
- Wait at least 1 minute between consecutive measurements for the unit to readjust to room temperature.
- Place the probe in the appropriate position for your measurement site (see Ensuring Accurate Temperature Measurement below ).
Switching Temperature Modes
- With the thermometer off, press the mode button and the multifunction button at the same time until you see the scale alternate.
- Release both buttons and wait 5 seconds. The correct scale and the mode icon will appear, indicating the unit is ready to measure.
Ensuring Accurate Temperature Measurement
We recommend using probe covers (Figure 1) with all digital stick thermometers.
Operating the 2-second digital thermometer:
For first use: Remove the protective case from the probe tip and the LCD protective sticker.
-
Press and release the multifunction button, a short beep will follow.
Wait 2 seconds for the unit to get ready. During these 2 seconds, the following sequence will be displayed on the LCD: A: All display icons will appear.
B: The display will show the last measurement.
C: The hourglass will disappear and the display will show the scale and mode icons. This will indicate the thermometer is now ready for measurement. -
Select your preferred measurement location (oral/rectal/underarm)
by using the Mode button.
-
Place the probe tip at the desired location.
The temperature reading will be displayed within 2 seconds. One long beep will indicate that the measurement is completed. If you want to take another measurement, turn off the thermometer and wait 1 minute between consecutive measurements to allow the unit to readjust to room temperature.
NOTE:
Measurement time may vary based on measuring conditions.
Oral Use (for children 4 years and older): Place the probe well under the
patient’s tongue (Figure 2). Keep the mouth closed while the thermometer is
reading. The peak temperature should be reached in approximately 2 seconds.
Opening the mouth or improper placement of the probe tip could result in a
long time for reading.
Rectal Use: Lubricate the probe cover with a water-
soluble jelly for easier insertion; do not use petroleum jelly, as it may
cause an inaccurate reading.
Insert the tip of the probe no more than 1/2 inch into the rectum. STOP if
you meet any resistance. The sensing unit is on the very tip of the probe and
there is no need to insert the probe deep into the rectum. Dispose of the used
probe cover and wash the thermometer as recommended. The peak temperature
should be reached in approximately 2 seconds.
Axillary Use: Wipe armpit with a dry towel. Place the probe in the
patient’s armpit (Figure 3) and keep the patient’s arm pressed firmly against
the body. The time required for an accurate underarm temperature maybe 2
seconds or longer depending on the placement of the probe and closure of the
arm against the body.
Dual Color Display:
- If a high heat flow is detected from the patient’s body, the LCD backlight color will turn red. Otherwise, the LCD backlight color will display a green light.
- The LCD backlight color is an additional alert to the displayed temperature.
WARNING: A high temperature requires immediate medical attention.
Turning the Unit Off: Turn the thermometer off by pressing the
multifunction button.
If you forget to turn it off, the thermometer will automatically turn off
after 1 minute.
Installing Batteries
- Switch off the device.
- Remove the battery cover by sliding it up.
- Press the latch holding the battery to remove it from the housing.
- Place new 2032Li 3V coin type battery in the chamber with the positive (+) side up.
- Slide the battery cover back into place. Make sure the latch is firmly closed.
It is recommended you remove the battery from the thermometer when it will not be used for a long period of time.
Troubleshooting and Special Indications
The thermometer has been designed to display feedback warnings to ensure proper usage and accurate temperature measurement. In the event of a malfunction or incorrect temperature measurement, the following warnings will be displayed:
Display: Flickering LO (unit will beep 7 times) Indication:
The measured temperature is below 95°F (35°C).
- Turn the unit off, wait 1 minute and then turn it on again.
- Retake temperature using proper technique while ensuring normal room temperature (between 73°F to 77°F / 23°C to 25°C).
- If the unit still reads LO, the patient has a low body temperature.
WARNING! A low body temperature requires immediate medical attention.
Display: Flickering HI (unit will beep 7 times) Indication:
The measured temperature is above 107.6°F (42°C).
- Turn the unit off, wait 1 minute and then turn it on again.
- Retake temperature using proper technique.
- If the unit still reads HI, the patient has an extremely high temperature.
WARNING! A high temperature requires immediate medical attention.
Display: Er 1 (unit will beep 5 times and power off automatically)
Indication:
The thermometer is too cold or too hot to operate.
- Verify room temperature is within product range 60.8°F to 104°F (16° C to 40° C).
- Wait 1 minute, retake temperature using proper technique.
Display: Er 2 (unit will beep 5 times and power off automatically)
Indication:
The temperature did not register because of poor contact, patient movement,
or poor placement.
- Turn the unit off, wait 1 minute, turn it on again, and retake temperature using proper technique.
Display: Er 3 (unit will beep 5 times and power off automatically)
Indication:
Unit malfunctioned.
- Do not use the thermometer – contact Customer Service.
Display: Flickering battery (after displaying the last temperature
measurement) Indication:
Low battery.
- The battery has enough remaining life for approximately 10 more measurements. It is recommended to replace the battery as soon as possible.
Display: Battery icon is on (unit will beep 5 times and power off
automatically) Indication:
Drained battery.
- The battery is drained. Replace battery.
Cleaning and Disinfecting
- Wipe probe with an alcohol swab or a cotton swab moistened with 70% isopropyl alcohol before and after each use. After cleaning, wait at least 2 minutes before taking a measurement for the unit to readjust to room temperature.
- Use only a soft dry cloth to clean the body of the thermometer (if necessary). Never use an abrasive cleanser or submerge the thermometer in water or other liquids.
- Store at room temperature.
