Turning on the Thermometer
To turn on the thermometer, press the multifunction button 1; a short beep signals «thermometer ON» and a red and green backlight lights up. A display test is performed. All segments should be displayed.
Function Test
Correct functioning of the thermometer is tested automatically each time it is turned on. If a malfunction is detected (measurement inaccuracy), this is indicated by « Err » on the display, and a measurement becomes impossible. In this case, the thermometer must be replaced.
Select the Measuring Mode
Press the multifunction button 1 to select the desired mode; the device will set up the chosen mode if there is no switch within 3 seconds. After the mode selection is completed, the thermometer is ready for use.
Using the Thermometer
Measuring in body mode 5
The last body mode result will be shown on the display 2 automatically for 2
seconds with the « M » icon.
At an ambient temperature of less than 34.0 °C/ 93.2°F, « — – » and «
°C » or « °F » appear on the display 2. The thermometer is ready for
use now.
Choose the preferred measuring method. When taking a measurement, the current
temperature is continuously displayed and flashes. If a long beep is heard and
the displayed temperature is no longer flashing, the predictive end-
temperature has been determined and the thermometer can be read.
4 short beeps and a red LCD backlight alert the patient that a temperature
equal or higher than 37.5°C/ 99.5 °F was measured.
Reference: Oral temperature.
To achieve comparable results allow a 1 minute interval time between
measurements.
Measuring in water bath mode
The temperature will be displayed continuously without backlight when the temperature is between 5 – 50 °C/41°F ~122°F.
Measuring in ambient mode
The temperature will be displayed continuously without backlight when the
temperature is between -10 – +50 °C/14°F ~122°F.
To prolong the battery life, turn off the thermometer by briefly pressing the
multifunction button 1. Independently of the selected mode the device will
turn off 5 minutes after it was switched on automatically.
Measuring methods / Normal body temperature
Readings from different measuring sites should not be compared as the normal
body temperature varies by measuring site.
In general, the Oral temperature is around 0.5 °C to 1.1 °C lower than Rectal
temperature.
The Axillary temperature is around 0.7 °C to 1.9 °C lower than Rectal
temperature.
Normal body temperature ranges:
– Axillary: 34.7 – 37.3 °C
– Oral: 35.5 – 37.5 °C
– Rectal: 36.6 – 38.0 °C
In the mouth (oral) / 35.5 °C – 37.5 °C / 95.9°F – 99.5 °F
Position the thermometer in one of the two pockets under the tongue, to the
left or right of the root of the tongue. The measuring sensor 4 must be in
good contact with the tissue. Close your mouth and breathe evenly through the
nose to prevent the measurement from being influenced by inhaled/ exhaled air.
Approx. measuring time: 8 seconds!
In the anus (rectal) / 36.6 °C – 38.0 °C / 97.9°F – 100.4 °F
This is the most reliable measuring method, and is especially suit able for
infants and small children. Carefully insert the measuring sensor 4 of the
thermometer 2 to 3 cm into the anal aperture.
Approx. measuring time: 8 seconds!
In the armpit (axillary) / 34.7 °C – 37.3 °C / 94.5°F – 99.1 °F
To receive more reliable results we recommend measuring temperature orally or
rectally.
Changing between Celsius and Fahrenheit
This thermometer can display temperature readings in either Fahrenheit or Celsius. To switch the display between °C and °F, While thermometer is OFF, press and hold the O/I button for about 5seconds, the current measurement scale («°C» or «°F» icon) will flash on the display. Change the measurement scale between °C and °F by pressing the O/I button, and the thermometer will power off automatically after switch completed
Cleaning and Disinfecting
Name: Isopropyl alcohol 70 %; immerse: max. 24 hours.
Battery Replacement
The battery needs replacing, when only the «battery»-symbol appears on the display. Remove the battery compartment cover 3 from the thermometer, to replace the battery. Insert the new battery with the + at the top. Make sure you have a battery of the same type to hand. Batteries can be purchased at any electrical store.
