Part 2: Precaution

Please read this safety precaution carefully before starting up the appliance to prevent damage due to improper use. Read the paragraphs with the safety and danger symbols carefully. Users should be trained in the hazard associated with using and cleaning the meat slicers and with the precautions to be followed.

Importance of the manual book

  • The manual book is a crucial part of the machine. It includes important information for safety which shown with the symbols:
  • The information included will allow you to use the machine in perfect safety conditions and to have a a maximum satisfaction.
  • The purpose of this manual book is to provide the important information about the appliance and its working capability.
  • This manual book should be given to those who responsible for the use and periodical maintenance of the appliance.
  • The manual book should be kept in good condition and stored in an easily accessible place.
  • The appliance are subject to change to improvement and may bear different details from those shown; this will not effect the information in this manual book.

Warning: Precaution to be followed

  • To protect against any risk of electric shock, do not put the appliance in water or in any other liquid. Do not clean the appliance using a lot of water.

  • Disconnect the power plug when the appliance is not in use.

  • Disconnect the power plug before the cleaning the protection components.

  • Always use completely assembled appliance; with food tray and food holder arm and with all the protections.
    Do not use the machine with the protection components removed.

  • Avoid contact with moving parts.

  • DO NOT push food by hands.

  • The blade is sharp, handle carefully when cleaning.

  • Do not use any appliance with a damaged cable or plug.

  • Bring the appliance to the nearest authorized service for examination and all necessary electrical or mechanical adjustments.

  • The use of spare-parts not recommended or sold by MODENA may cause fire, electric shock or injury.

  • Do not use outdoors.

Warning and safety rules

MODENA declines all responsibility in the case of improper use of the appliance. Do not use the appliance for frozen food, boned meat, vegetables or anything other than foodstuffs. Check the state of the wire periodically; should it be damaged, it must be replaced by authorized staff.

  • Do not immerse the appliance in water when cleaning.
  • Do not wash with jet of water.
  • Do not use extension wires.
  • Do not unplug by pulling the wire.
  • Do not use the machine with wet hands or bare feet.
  • Put the appliance distant from sources of heat.

Keep your hands away from the blade and moving parts despite the appliance is equipped with safety devices.

During maintenance or cleaning, user should be carefully considered the risk. Before performing any maintenance, unplug the appliance and make sure the adjustment knob is in “0” position. Remove the knife guard periodically, loosen the screw (in the center of the knife guard), and clean the blade and the inside of the knife guard with alcohol or warm water.

Warning:

  1. This appliance should not be operated by those who have psychological, perceptual or mental disabilities (including children), or by people with no experience or knowledge, except they have had the supervision and instruction of the appliance by the intermediary responsible of their safety. It is better to supervise the children.
  2. The use of this appliance have to be carried out with the utmost care as it relates a cutting device.
  3. The appliance and its parts should be cleaned with soft cloth moistened with standard neutral detergents.
  4. Use soft cloths for drying.

Mains voltage
Before plugging in, check that the main voltage corresponds to the voltage shown on the data plate. The power supply shall have protection to this appliance. The wires have to be placed properly to avoid to trip or to slide.

Part 3: Installation

Transport -­ handling ­- storage

  • The machine is packed in a cardboard box with plugs inserted.
  • The packaging is proper to travel by all means of transport.
  • Cartons can be stacked up to 3-4 cartons.
  • The packaging must be kept dry.
  • The appliance weight more than 15kg, it must be handled by 2 person carefully.
  • When on pallets, handle only with traspallets or electric lifters.

Installation
It is recommended for operating personnel to be instructed by the representative of the manufacturer or the supplier of this appliance.

Environmental conditions:

  • Minimum temperature + 8 °C
  • Maximum temperature + 38 °C
  • Minimum moisture 30%
  • Maximum moisture 80%
  • The appliance has to be put on a stable support to avoid its moving.
  • The wires have to be placed properly to avoid to trip or to slide.
  • Assemble the sharper group (10), thumb protection device (24), and round protection handle (25) in place. The parts can protect user. When take away the sharpener group, do not use the appliance, because of dangerous sharpen blade. When the thumb protection device (24) is not in place, do not use the appliance to slice meat that has not been deboned and other non-food products.
  • There is a micro switch on the knife guard blockage knob (9), when the knob is turned off, the machine will stop working automatically. It ensures the safety of user. Please see the pictures below.

Levelling
Check that the movable bulkhead (2) with the graduated Knob (6) in “0” position is aligned to the blade in the zone (A). If it is not aligned, adjust the feet (12) by loosen or screwing the right one.

  • Once unwrapped, place the appliance and put the on/off switch is in front of the operator.
  • Check the adjustment knob on position “0”, plug in, switch on, check the blade turn fluently, check the sound of blade turning, and check the “on” indicator works well. Switch off, make sure the blade is stop working.
  • Adjust the thickness of the slice desired by turning the adjustment knob.
  • Place the food on the sliding carriage pushing against the food holder arm facing the blade, make sure that the food is resting against the movable bulkhead.
  • Switch on, to activate the blade.
  • After use, turn the adjustment knob back to position “0”.
  • The food grip should not be removed unless the shape and size of the food does not allow its use

Part 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

Machine cleaning and maintenance

  • Before cleaning the appliance, remove the plug from the current socket and make sure that the adjustment knob (6) is in position “0”.
  • Do not use jets of water.
  • Do not use hard brushes that can damage the surface of the appliance.
  • Use a soft cloth moistened with a normal neutral detergent (see for the example type included in the accessories box).
  • Do not move the appliance to clean it. It is recommended to use the proper anti-cut gloves to avoid cut.
  • The appliance made with taking the maximum consideration of the easiness, the swiftness and the perfect possibility of cleaning it in all its parts.
  • The cleaning of the machine has to be made at least once a day or with more frequency if necessary (by each change of the type of food product), with care in cleaning the surface that come in contact with the food.
  • If the appliance is dirty, please clean the it.
  • If the appliance stop slicing, it may caused by overheated motor, please return appliance to the nearest authorized service for examination
  • The blade can be cleaned without disassembling.
  • Use anti-cut gloves.
  • Disassembly of the blade-cover (4).
  • Loosen the knob (9) remove the knife guard (4).
  • Clean the blade (3) on both side as shown in the picture

If the sliding carriage stops sliding smoothly, lay the machine on its side. Clean the slide bar (29) and lubricate it with Vaseline or industrial oil.

Blade sharpening
If the appliance does not slice well and blade is blunt, blade should be sharpened by authorized staff.

Note: it should be noted that the blade is made with highly resistant material; therefore it needs to be sharpened only when the cut capability decreases. The gauge plate or guard plate shall be closed on the appliance with an integral blade sharpener during the sharpening operation.

  • Disconnect the power plug from power socket.
  • Check that the movable bulkhead is closed (adjustment knob (6) in position “0”).
  • Carefully clean the part of the blade to be sharpened.
  • Connect the plug.
  • Loosen the locking knob (23) of the sharpener group (10).
  • Raise the sharpener group (10), turning it by 180° so that both wheels are in working position. See Picture 1.
  • Lower the sharpener group (10) until it locks. · Secure the group by turning the locking knob (23). See Picture 2.
  • Switch on the appliance.
  • Press button (26) and let the blade run for about 1 minute. When the blade stops, check to see if any burr has formed on the edge.
  • After making sure there are burr, switch on and gently press button (27) for about 3 seconds to remove the burr produced during sharpening. Put the adjustment knob (6) back to “0” position.
  • After sharpening, move the sharpener group (10) back to its original position, see Picture 3 and clean the edge of the blade and the wheels by alcohol.
  • After several sharpening operations, remove any residue from the sharpening wheel with alcohol and a brush.

Blade replacing
The blade has to be replaced when it is not possible to sharpen it or when the distance between the cutting part of the blade and the blade protector is more than 6 mm. Return appliance to the nearest authorized service to replace the blade.

Disposable
Please cast of the appliance according to the regulation and guideline applying on that moment. This appliance cannot be disposed of with domestic waste. It must be taken to a particular place of waste electrical and electronic equipment.

There is an explanatory symbol on the item, in the instruction manual, or on the packaging. Some materials may be retrieved: please read the instructions carefully. Material recovery, reuse, or other forms of recycling for old appliances mean that you can play an important part in environmental protection. Please ask your Local Authority where your recyclable waste facilities are situated.
