(Pigtail and Plug-on Neutral)
Retain for future use.
DANGER
HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, EXPLOSION, OR ARC FLASH
- Apply appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe electrical work practices. See NFPA 70E, NOM-029-STPS or CSA Z462 or local equivalent.
- This equipment must only be installed and serviced by qualified electrical personnel.
- Turn off all power supplying this equipment before working on or inside the equipment.
- Always use a properly rated voltage sensing device to confirm power is off.
- Circuit breakers must only be supplied by grounded neutral electrical systems.
- GFCI must be installed and wired correctly. The GFCI circuit breaker must switch both ungrounded (HOT) conductors in order to provide ground-fault protection. Incoming line must be connected to load center bus.
- Replace all devices, doors, and covers before turning on power to this equipment.
- A circuit breaker with a ground-fault circuit interrupter does not protect people who contact both power wires or either power wire and the neutral.
Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury.
NOTE:
- This product meets the requirements for Class A ground-fault circuit protection.
- The pigtail version of this circuit breaker is for us in all NQ panelboards and QO™ load centers, except all versions of QO2, QO2-4, and QO3-5. All QO6-12 and QO8-16 versions require the use of #3 AWG (25 mm 2 ) max. line conductors.
- This arc-fault and ground-fault detection device is not designed or intended for use on circuits in which the neutral conductor is shared with other circuits. The circuit breaker will nuisance trip in “shared neutral” circuits.
- QO plug-on neutral dual function circuit breaker may only be used in plug-on neutral load centers. NOTE: To minimize nuisance tripping:
- Do not connect circuit breaker to swimming pool equipment installed before the adoption of the 1965 National Electrical Code.
- Do not connect circuit breakers to electric ranges or clothes dryers whose frames are grounded by connection to a neutral conductor.
- Do not connect the circuit breaker to more than 250 ft. (76 m) of load conductor for the total one-way run.
Installation
See Figure 1
1. Turn off all power supplying this equipment before working on or inside
the equipment.
2. Turn off the circuit breaker (A).
3. Remove panel trim.
QO™ and QOB Dual Function (DF) (Combination AFCI and GFCI Circuit Breaker)
NOTE: If using plug-on neutral PDF (QO1XXPDF), go to step 5.
4. Connect panel neutral (pigtail wire B; applies to pigtail version only) to
load center or panelboard neutral bar. See load center or panelboard for
torque value.
5. Strip insulation off wires to length (C) shown.
6. Connect load power (D) and load neutral (E). See Figure 1 or side of
circuit breaker for torque value.
NOTE: The load neutral wire (E) and panel neutral (pigtail wire B;
applies to pigtail version only) must be connected according to the preceding
instructions for proper unctioning of the arc-fault and ground fault detection
device. If plug-on neutral DF is installed, circuit breaker neutral connector
must be mounted on load center neutral bar for
the proper functioning of arc-fault and ground-fault detection device. See
Figure 1A.
7. Install circuit breaker into the panel and re-torque wire connectors. For
bolt-on circuit breakers, tighten screw (F).
8. Re-install panel trim and attach supplied label (G) to panel so that it is
visible with panel trim installed.
NOTE: If using plug-on neutral DF, the circuit breaker must be mounted to
load the center neutral bar. See Figure 1A below.
NOTE: When using QO Neutral kit (QONK1, 2, 3, or 4) in a QO enclosure, do
not install the CAFI circuit breaker in space adjacent to the installed
neutral kit. When installed, the neutral kits may interfere with the proper
installation of these circuit breakers.

DANGER
HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, EXPLOSION, OR ARC FLASH
Test each circuit breaker monthly. If the circuit breaker handle does not move
to the center (tripped) position, turn the circuit breaker off and contact a
qualified electrician. Failure to follow these instructions will result in
death or serious injury.
NOTICE
HAZARD OF EQUIPMENT DAMAGE Megger®, high-voltage or hi-pot tests will damage
circuit breaker. Turn off all power supplying the equipment and isolate the
circuit breaker before testing. Failure to follow these instructions can
result in equipment damage.
QO™ and QOB Dual Function (DF) (Combination AFCI and GFCI Circuit Breaker)
See Figure 2
- Test circuit breaker after installation following the procedure below. Test monthly thereafter.
- Turn off all loads downstream of the circuit breaker.
- Turn on power to load center or panelboard.
- Turn circuit breaker handle (A) to ON.
- Press the test button (B). If the circuit breaker handle does not move to the center (tripped) position (C), turn the circuit breaker off and contact a qualified electrician.
NOTE: For qualified electricians only. Press the test button (B). If the circuit breaker handle (C) does not move to the center (tripped) position, remove the load wires and repeat steps 1-5. If the circuit breaker handle (C) still does not move to the center (tripped) position, recheck circuit breaker wiring and installation. Replace the circuit breaker if no other issues are found. If the circuit breaker DOES trip after removing the load wires, do not remove the circuit breaker and troubleshoot the branch circuit.
6. Reset circuit breaker by moving handle fully to OFF position and then
moving to ON position.
7. Turn loads downstream of circuit breaker back on.

Troubleshooting
PDF Fault Indication Procedure
The DF circuit breaker provides continuous fault protection. Should a fault
occur during the indication procedure, the DF circuit breaker will interrupt
the fault and protect the circuit.
- Place the circuit breaker in the O/OFF position.
- Firmly press and continue holding the white ‘TEST’ button-through Step 4.
- Move handle to I/ON position.
- The circuit breaker should trip at one of the following times.
Trips Instantly (less than 1 second) | Fault to Ground |
---|---|
Trips at 2.0 seconds | Arc Fault |
Trips at 5.0 seconds | Procedure Complete Includes: no-fault, thermal overload, |
shortcircuit
To reset Fault Indication:
• Perform the CAFI Fault Indication Procedure a total of 6 times.
• Verify by performing CAFI Fault Indication
The procedure with a trip at 5.0 seconds (Procedure Complete) result.
An automatic reset of Fault Indication will occur if the CAFI circuit breaker
has been powered continuously for 27 days.
Removal
- Turn OFF (O) the circuit breaker. Remove the wires.
- To disconnect the plug-on jaw from the connector and mounting rail, lift the line-end (1) of the circuit breaker until the circuit breaker jaw disconnects from the bus bar. Continue lifting until the load-end (2) disengages from the mounting rail. See Figure 3A.
- If a circuit breaker is not replaced, install a QOFP filler plate (not provided) to fill an opening in the panel.
NOTE: Do not use a twisting motion to remove the circuit breaker, or equipment damage may result. See Figure 3B.
