INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing the NASA RC Mars Opportunity Rover.
You may already be familiar with similar products, but please take time to
read these instructions carefully as they have been written to ensure maximum
enjoyment of your purchase.
Important safeguards:
To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons when
using electrical products, basic safety precautions should always be followed.
Please ensure you read the Product Safety information before operating the
NASA RC Mars Opportunity Rover.
BEFORE FIRST USE
– Check that all the parts listed in the “PACKAGE CONTENTS” chapter are
received.
– Carefully remove all components from the packaging material.
– Danger of suffocation! Packaging materials are not toys. Children should not
play with them, as there is a risk of swallowing and suffocation!
– The product also contains small parts which may pose a risk of being
swallowed by small children!
– Install camera attachment arm (see section “INSTALLING CAMERA ATTACHMENT
ARM”).
GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION
WARNING!
Not suitable for children under 3 years due to small parts which may become a
detached and present choking hazard. This product is a toy, but it is not
suitable for children under 6 years old. Do not operate in rain, snow, heavy
winds, thunder, or similar poor weather conditions. Use only under adult
supervision. Improper operation may cause injury or damage to property. Never
try to modify the product. Always switch the rover and the remote control
transmitter off when not in use.
BATTERY SAFETY
– Different types of batteries (i.e. alkaline and zinc) or new and used
batteries are not to be mixed in the remote control transmitter.
– Only batteries of the same or equivalent type as recommended are to be used.
– Batteries are to be inserted with the correct polarity (+ and —).
– Exhausted batteries are to be removed from the remote control transmitter.
– The supply terminals are not to be short-circuited.
– Batteries should never be left in the product or remote control transmitter
for prolonged periods of disuse.
– Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be recharged.
– Rechargeable batteries are only to be charged under adult supervision.
– Do not expose the battery to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or fire.
– Do not place the product on any heat source.
– Swallowed batteries are dangerous. Keep batteries out of reach of children
and pets. Immediately ask for medical assistance if a battery is swallowed.
– Do not allow children to replace batteries without adult supervision.
– Batteries should be stored in well-ventilated, cool, and dry conditions.
– Do not leave batteries charging for a prolonged period of time unsupervised.
– Do not charge overnight.
– If the product appears to be bulging or shows other concerning signs such as
excess noise, stop using it immediately.
– Do not cover while charging. Charge in a well-ventilated environment.
– Charge this product once every 3 months to avoid shortening its battery
life.
– Charge the product exclusively with the provided USB charging cable.
– Lithium batteries produce heat when charging and discharging. If the product
becomes too hot to touch, turn it off and unplug it immediately. If the
battery leaks, avoid contact with skin and eyes. Rinse affected areas
immediately with plenty of clean water, then consult a doctor.
– Danger of explosion! Do not throw the battery into fire.
– Do not disassemble or alter the battery.
INTENDED USE
– This product should be used in domestic areas only (house and garden). If
used outdoors, use in calm weather conditions. This product is suitable only
for private use and is not intended for commercial purposes. Use the product
only as described in this manual. Any other use may lead to personal injury,
product, or property damage. No liability will be accepted for damage
resulting from improper use or non-compliance with this manual.
COMPONENT IDENTIFICATION
INSTALLING CAMERA ATTACHMENT ARM
Insert base tab of camera attachment arm into the corresponding slot on NASA
Mars Opportunity Rover main body Fix arm in place with supplied 2x screws
CHARGING NASA MARS OPPORTUNITY ROVER BATTERY BATTERY REQUIREMENT FOR NASA
MARS OPPORTUNITY ROVER:
Battery: lx 3.7V Li-ion Rechargeable Battery Pack (included) Capacity: 500mAh
CHARGING NASA MARS OPPORTUNITY ROVER BATTERY
Make sure the power switch is in the “OFF” position.
– Loosen retaining screw and remove battery compartment cover – Unplug and
remove the battery
– Connect the battery to the USB charging cable (included).
– Connect the charging cable to a USB socket.
– The charging process will begin automatically and the charging indicator
will light up.
– Unplug the charging plug when the charging indicator turns off, charging is
completed.
– Disconnect the battery from the USB cable and reattach to the product
battery compartment connector
– Reattach the battery compartment cover and tighten the retaining screw
Note: The NASA Mars Opportunity Rover can operate for about 25 minutes
after charging fully for 120 minutes.
Before recharging the battery, wait 10 – 15 minutes for it to cool down.
REMOTE CONTROL BATTERY REPLACEMENT
BATTERY REQUIREMENT FOR REMOTE CONTROL
– Batteries: 2x 1.5V “AA”/LR6/R6 (not included)
– Rating: DC 3.0V, 0DB
INSERTING/REPLACING REMOTE CONTROL BATTERIES
Use a cross-head screwdriver to remove the battery cover. Ensure the batteries
are inserted in the correct polarity position.

Regulations were implemented in the UK in order to reduce the quantity of
electronic waste being sent to landfill and thereby protect our environment.
PRODUCT DISPOSAL
Please note all electrical and electronic products and/or packaging now
carries a “crossed-out wheelie bin” logo to help you identify products that
are recyclable.
BATTERY DISPOSAL
This product contains batteries and electronics that may be harmful to the
environment. The battery contained in this control remote control transmitter
unit is replaceable. Remove them before disposal of the product. Batteries
contain substances that may be harmful to the environment and human health.
Keep out of the reach of children and seek immediate medical help if
swallowed. Batteries should not be discarded with normal household waste but
taken to your local collection center for recycling. Do not throw batteries
into a fire.
USB cable statement:
– If the battery cannot be charged, please try another adapter.
– The product must only be used with the provided USB cable for charging.
– Do not use high output adapter for battery charging (1A or above).
– Transformer or battery charger used with the toy is to be regularly examined
for damage to the cord, plug, enclosure, and other parts, and in the event of
such damage, they must not be used until the damage has been repaired.
