Dear Clearaudio customer,
Congratulations on the purchase of your double matrix professional SONIC, a high-performance product made by Clearaudio.
Keeping your vinyl records clean improves their sound quality. It is equally important to clean new vinyl records because the pressing process often leaves behind surface residues. The integrated sonic cleaning technology of the Clearaudio double matrix professional SONIC will effectively remove all such contaminants from the grooves of your records.
Please read these instructions carefully to ensure correct operation and to achieve the best possible cleaning results.

Components and processing

The Clearaudio double matrix professional SONIC is built using the highest quality components and is designed for intensive and continuous use. The chassis, cleaning, vacuum, and antistatic arms, as well as the Seal record clamp, are machined from solid aluminum. The chassis is lined with acoustic damping pads to keep operational noise to a minimum.
Our quality standard is reflected in a warranty of 3 years, provided that the completed warranty card is returned to us within 14 days of purchase. We thank you for your purchase and hope you enjoy using your new double matrix professional SONIC.

Available Accessories:

| Dustcover for double matrix professional SONIC (Art. No. AC143)
---|---

Setup of the double matrix professional SONIC

Take the already assembled double matrix professional SONIC record cleaning machine from its packaging. Set it on a stable and horizontal surface (such as a desk or rack).
Please note that due to the weight of the record cleaning machine, the feet of the device can cause marks on soft surfaces. Due to the warm air outlet on the bottom of the double matrix professional SONIC, the surface on which it rests should be heat resistant to a minimum of 60°C.
3.1 Connect to the mains supply
To avoid using an additional extension cable, place the double matrix professional SONIC within 2 meters of an electrical wall outlet.
Connect the supplied mains cable first to the IEC socket on the back of the double matrix professional SONIC and then to the electrical wall outlet. Press the switch on the IEC socket and position it to “I”.
Please read the whole user manual before cleaning your first record.
Note: Voltages are referenced to EU countries with 230V mains power.
In other countries the mains voltage and frequency may vary (e.g. USA 115V/60Hz.)
The correct operating voltage can be found on the back of the device on the product information label (Pic. 1).

Functions

5.1 Automatic cleaning
Automatic / Super clean / Eco mode
The “Auto” button has a multifunction for different automatic cleaning modes.

  • Eco-mode
Hold the button for 3 seconds, the LED ring of the “AUTO” button will blink fast.
This mode is the most economical in terms of cleaning time and cleaning fluid consumption.

  • Automatic mode
Press the button once, the LED ring of the button will shine constantly.
This mode is a normal cleaning mode.

  • Super-Clean mode
Press the button twice, the LED ring will blink slowly.
This mode is for very dirty records and will run the “AUTOMATIC MODE” twice.
If the respective cleaning program (Auto mode / Super-Clean / ECO mode) is finished, the blue ring of the button will flash short and expire completely.
You can cancel every automatic mode by pressing the button “POWER” shortly.

5.2 Manual cleaning

  • Power
Starts the platter rotating and switches on the sonic cleaning function.

  • Liquid
Press to apply cleaning fluid to the upper and lower sides of the record.

  • Platter
Press to change the platter’s rotational direction.

  • Platter Speed
Turn to adjust the platter rotation speed.

  • Vacuum
Activates the suction drying process while also stopping the sonic cleaning function.

5.3 Automatic and manual cleaning

  • Antistatic brush

The antistatic brush arm is used to discharge any static that is generated during the drying process. After completion of the automatic programs or manual cleaning, the dry record should pass the antistatic brush at least for 2-3 full rotations. Turn the antistatic arm above the record to the outer point. The record will start to turn and the constructed static will be derived.
The antistatic function can only be activated with opened suction arm.
After 2-3 full rotations, turn the antistatic arm back to the start position. The rotation of the record ends automatically.
5.4 LED level indicator
Shows the level of cleaning fluid currently in the reservoir (0% to 100%).

Initial start-up

6.1 Filling the cleaning fluid reservoir
Place the funnel supplied into the filling hole (Pic. 2, No. 11, page 7) and fill the fluid reservoir with the cleaning fluid provided (max. 0.4l).
Pay attention to the LED level indicator so as not to over-fill. For effective cleaning, we recommend using only Clearaudio cleaning fluids (available at www.analogshop.de).

6.2 Opening the cleaning and vacuum arm and placing the record
Lift the upper cleaning arm and swing it to the left to open the cleaning and vacuum assembly.
Turn the knob of the Seal record clamp anticlockwise to release the clamp then place the record to be cleaned on the label-sized platter. Now put the Seal record clamp back on the spindle and press down gently while rotating the knob clockwise to secure the record in position and create a seal to protect the record label from fluid damage.
Closing the cleaning and vacuum unit
Now you can swing the upper cleaning arm to the right to close the cleaning and vacuum assembly.
6.3 Automatic cleaning
The new features of the double matrix professional SONIC “AUTO”, “SUPERCLEAN” and “ECO MODE” provide fully automatic and efficient cleaning (see function 5.1,  page 8). You only have to manually activate the antistatic brush.

6.4 Manual cleaning
To set your own parameters for the cleaning process manually:

  • After you have placed and fixed the record with the Seal record clamp, close the cleaning and vacuum assembly.
  • Press the “POWER” button to start the sonic cleaning function and rotation of the record.
  • Press the “LIQUID” button to apply cleaning fluid to the record. Holding down the button for longer applies more fluid. Adjust this according to the desired quantity of cleaning fluid.
  • After about 3 or 4 rotations, change the platter direction by pressing the “PLATTER” button. We recommend 3 or 4 turns in each direction. By turning the “PLATTER  SPEED” knob you can vary the rotational speed to further fine-tune the cleaning process.
  • Once you are happy with the cleaning, press the “VACUUM” button. This will stop the sonic cleaning function and start the vacuum drying process. After about 3 or 4  rotations, when the record is visibly dry, switch off the suction by pressing the “VACUUM” button again.
  • Press the “POWER” button to stop the record rotation.
  • Open the suction arm. Now start the antistatic function (see 5.3, page 9). After completion of the antistatic function, the manual cleaning is complete and you can remove your record.

Maintenance

7.1 Changing the microfiber stripes
To change the microfiber stripes, remove the upper arm of the cleaning and vacuum assembly by loosening the side-mounted hex screw, then pulling the upper arm gently upwards.
Next, release the microfiber supporters from the upper and lower cleaning arms by applying light pressure at the end of each microfiber supporter, and then remove them (see Pic. 4).

Now peel the old microfiber strips away from their supporters.
Before attaching new microfiber strips, it is important to ensure that any grease, dust, or residual glue from the old microfiber strips is removed from the microfiber supporter. Apply new microfiber strips, firmly pressing them onto the supporters.
We recommend changing the microfiber strips after approx. 100 cleaning programs, though this will depend on the condition of the records cleaned.

7.2 Cleaning and draining the waste fluid tank
Over time it is possible for the residue to settle in the waste fluid tank which could potentially block the drain tube. To avoid this happening you should periodically clean the waste fluid tank.

  1. Remove the upper suction arm after loosening the side-mounted screw with the delivered hex wrench (#5) and pulling it gently and steadily upwards.
  2. Place the filling funnel into the suction tube.
  3. To flush the waste tank, we recommend 250ml warm water, which you pour into the waste tank.
  4. Let the warm water sit in the waste tank for approximately 20 minutes, then drain it by removing the sealing plug from the drain hose and putting the end of the drain hose into a  bowl (or something else) which is positioned deeper. Repeat this process until the drained flushing water is clean and does not contain any residue.
After the cleaning, you can remount the suction arm. Please make sure to insert the arm straight and without any pressure. Otherwise, the arm may tilt and damage the machine.
    Please note:
If you take the machine into operation again, the drain tube must always be closed by the stopper, so that the vacuum pump can generate the required vacuum for suction. Only through this, we can guarantee the lasting and full function of your cleaning machine.
The drain tube at the rear should not be pushed back into the machine.
This could bend the tube and the leaking fluid could damage the cleaning machine.

Points to note

8.1 Waste fluid tank:
The waste fluid tank has a capacity of approx. 0.5 liters. We recommend regular draining of the tank, to avoid any damage. Please note that with intensive use waste fluid can evaporate completely leaving residue within the waste tank.
To empty the waste fluid tank:

  1. On the back panel, you will find the drain tube, which can be pulled out (see Pic. 2, No. 10, page7).
  2. Remove the sealing plug from the drain tube.
  3. To empty the waste fluid tank completely, tilt the double matrix professional SONIC about 45° to the rear. Once emptied, be sure to reseal the drain tube again.

CAUTION:
Do not re-use waste cleaning fluid. This could damage your machine.
8.2 Cleaning the fluid reservoir:
The cleaning fluid reservoir has a capacity of approx. 0.4 liters. We recommend that you fill the tank only with Clearaudio cleaning fluids (available at www.analogshop.de) to receive the best cleaning results.
To empty the fluid reservoir tank (to ship the unit or to switch to another liquid), close the suction unit and disconnect the upper supply tube.
Insert the end of the disconnected supply tube into a container, squeeze the lower supply tube and hold the “LIQUID” button pressed. Now the unit will start to pump the fluid.
We recommend a second person for help.
Please note:
If you won’t be using the double matrix professional SONIC for more than a week, we suggest that you drain the remaining fluid from the cleaning fluid reservoir.

CAUTION:
Never use foaming or corrosive liquids, or water.
This could cause serious damage to your machine and may void your warranty.

8.3 LED level indicator:
When the last LED (0%) of the level indicator is flashing (Pic. 2 No. 12, page 7), the functions “AUTO”, “SUPERCLEAN” and in manual mode, the function “LIQUID”, will be deactivated. This protects the liquid pump from damage. To re-activate these functions, fill the cleaning fluid reservoir with more cleaning fluid.

CAUTION:
Ensure that the double matrix professional SONIC is switched on when filling the cleaning fluid reservoir so that you can read the current level on the LED level indicator.
8.4 Auto protect:
If the cleaning and vacuum assembly is open (Fig. 2, No. 13, page 7), all functions of the buttons are deactivated. The antistatic arm can still cause the rotation of the platter axis when turned to the middle.
Important:
After use, the double matrix professional SONIC should always turn off by pressing the switch on the IEC socket to the position “0”.
If you won‘t be using the unit for more than a week, we recommend unplugging the cleaning machine.
