Getting Started
Overview
The SonarMite DFX instrument uses the same ‘Smart’ integrated transducer
technology used in previous systems, in addition to reliable bottom tracking
algorithms using DSP techniques. The system also outputs a water temperature
measurement with every depth measurement made. The popular SonarW7 software
has been updated to the latest Windows versions. Software for the ‘front end’
of the SonarMite is available to run on a wide range of devices from Pocket
PCs, to the full range of desktop and tablet systems running the Windows
operating system. Additionally, the SonarMite is directly compatible with most
traditional land urvey acquisition software.

Setup
Operation: Shoreside Setup
-
Assemble the pole kit and attach to the boat with the mountain bracket. The pole should be as straight up as possible. The transducer should be in water before turning it on.
-
Plug the transducer into the echosounder. The left LED light will flash continuously, indicating the echosounder is turned on. The transducer should be lower than the bottom of the boat. If not, the hull could reflect return soundings (multi-path)
-
Attach the GPS antenna to the top of the survey pole and turn it on. Give it 2-10 minutes to track satellites. Ensure the GPS antenna has a clear view of the sky at all times
-
Depending on the GPS/data collector, follow the appropriate startup guide for that specific system. Follow the same setup process you would if running a standard topographic survey; including survey style, job configuration, geodesy, etc. You will be running a continuous survey; we recommend using the interval by time function rather than the interval by distance (every 1 second).
