Connection
Ensure the Power (12) is switched off and connect the supplied IEC mains lead
into the power inlet (20) with the plug top into a suitable mains power
outlet.
Connect the output from the AD-400 to a mixer or amplifier line input using
the RCA output connectors (22) or if available, using the optical digital
output connector (23).
If the FM radio is to be used, connect an external aerial or antenna to the FM
Antenna connector (24).
For installations where the AD-400 may be away from line-of-sight, an I.R.
remote eye is provided, which can be connected to the IR Remote connector
(21).
CD Playback
Switch on the power (12) and the LCD display will illuminate. To load a CD, carefully feed into the slot (3) `label up’ and the mechanism will draw the CD into the machine. The display will show the number of tracks and total time. Do not insert mini CDs as these are not suitable for slot feed machines.
Playback may begin automatically, depending upon the media inserted.
To start or pause playback, press Play/Pause (7).
To fast reverse or forward through the current track, press Reverse/Seek- or
Forward/Seek+ buttons to step through 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x and 32x speeds.
To continue playback but mute the output, press Mute/Power (9) press again
to un-mute the output.
Holding in the Mute/Power button for 3 seconds serves as a power on/standby
switch.
To remove a CD, press Eject (6)
Pressing one of the Numerical track select buttons (13) will jump directly to that track number on the disc. Pressing the “5+” button followed by another number adds 5 to that number, pressing “5+” twice adds 10 to that number, and so on.
During playback, the display will show the tracking number and elapsed time. Tracks can be navigated sequentially by pressing the Previous or Next track buttons (9, 10) and the play order can be randomized by pressing the Random play button (14).
The Repeat button (15) selects between REP 1 (repeat current track), REP A (repeat all tracks) or no repeat.
To stop playback altogether, press Stop (8)
USB/SD Playback
To play audio from a USB memory device or SD card, insert the device into the relevant slot (1, 2) and press CD/USB/SD (18) to select the required media. Press Play/Pause to initiate playback.
Track navigation is the same for USB or SD card playback as described above
for CD playback.
To eject either of these media, simply remove it from the slot.
FM Tuner
To switch to FM tuner mode, press the FM button (19)
The display will show the stored channel and FM frequency. There are 30
channels, which can be programmed by the user.
To step through stored channels, press the Previous or Next buttons.
Alternatively, stations can be selected via the numerical select buttons in the same way that CD, USB or SD tracks can be accessed. Pressing “5+” jumps 5 channels and numbers “1 5” select individual channels.
To manually tune to a new FM station, press Reverse/Seek- or Forward/Seek+ to
step through the FM frequencies in 0.05MHz steps.
Pressing either of these buttons for 3 seconds with activating auto-seek mode
and the tuner will step through frequencies until a strong signal is detected
and stop.
When a suitable FM station is found, it can be stored into one of the 30
channels by pressing the Play/Pause button, which causes “CH00” to flash in
the display.
Pressing the Previous or Next buttons steps through the channel memories and when the required number is selected, pressing Play/Pause stores the current tuning frequency to the selected channel memory.
As with CD, USB or SD playback, the Mute/Power button will either mute the FM output or put the player in standby mode if held in for 3 seconds.
Remote control
Controls for the AD-400 are also provided on a handheld Infra-Red remote
control. Open the rear compartment on the handheld remote and install 2 x AAA
batteries, observing the correct polarity as indicated inside the compartment.
Replace the battery compartment cover.
Aim the remote control towards the I.R. detector next to the display or
towards the I.R. remote eye (if connected to the IR Extender input on the rear
panel)
Remove batteries from the handset if not being used for long periods.

additions.
There are separate CD, USB, SD, and FM select buttons and a full 0-9 numerical
select button set for faster access to media and tracks. Pressing 0/10 adds a
zero before or after the selected number.
The remote handset can also offer auto-tune for all of the FM channels. Press the Preset button (28) and the AD-400 will search through FM frequencies checking for a strong signal. When a clear signal is reached, this will usually be a valid radio station and the AD-400 will automatically store this into one of the channel locations and then continue to search through further FM frequencies until all-clear signals are stored or all 30 channel memories are full.
