SAFETY SYMBOL AND MESSAGE CONVENTIONS
CAUTION: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK DO NOT OPEN
- This symbol indicates that dangerous voltage constituting a risk of electric shock is present within this unit.
- This symbol indicates that there are important operating and maintenance instructions in the literature accompanying this unit.
Warning
- To prevent the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose any components to rain or moisture. If liquids are spilled on the casing, stop using immediately, allow unit to dry out and have checked by qualified personnel before further use. Avoid impact, extreme pressure or heavy vibration to the case.
- No user serviceable parts inside – Do not open the case – refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
Safety
- Only use the power adaptor supplied with the COM230. Other adaptors may damage the circuitry.
- Check for correct supply voltage before connecting the power adaptor to the mains.
Placement and Assembly
- Position the COM230 on a stable surface, such as a worktop, counter-top or desktop.
- Ensure adequate access to rear panel connections and controls.
- Allow enough slack lead length to avoid straining cable or connectors at the rear panel.
Cleaning
- Use a soft cloth with a neutral detergent to clean the housing as required.
- Use a vacuum cleaner to clear apertures and controls of any dust or debris build-up.
Connections and Controls
- XLR microphone connector
- Aux and Mic signal indicators
- Zone 1 paging select button
- Zone 2 paging select button
- Microphone paging button
- 3.5mm Aux input jack
- Aux output level
- Mic output level
- Zone 1 speaker output terminals
- Zone 2 speaker output terminals
- DC power adaptor input
Speaker connections
Connect speakers to the Zone 1 and Zone 2 speaker terminals (9, 10) using 2-core speaker cable. The green Euroblock screw terminals may be unplugged from the rear panel for easier connection. Connect the “+” terminal to the “+” connection of the speaker. Connect the “-” terminal to the “-” connection of the speaker. Each speaker zone output can deliver 30W total at 4Ω. This means that a single 8Ω speaker may be connected to either zone, receiving up to 15W. Alternatively, 2 x 8Ω speakers may be connected in parallel to either zone, each receiving up to 15W. Both of these scenarios are shown in the diagram opposite. Another option would be to connect a single 4Ω speaker to either speaker zone output, which would receive up to 30W.
Ensure that the combined impedance connected to each speaker output is not lower than 4Ω and that the speakers connected can handle the output power at that combined load impedance.
Input connections
Mount the gooseneck microphone into the XLR microphone connector on top of the base unit (1). If background music or other line-level audio source is required, this may be connected to the 3.5mm Aux input at the rear of the base unit (6). This will play through both zones as stereo left + right to zone 1 and 2.
Audio connections for the 3.5mm jack is shown opposite. The Aux signal is governed by the Aux output level control (7) and the Aux signal indicator will react to the audio accordingly. Lastly, connect the supplied power adaptor to the DC input jack on the rear panel (11).
Operation
- Turn the Aux Level and Mic Level controls fully down before powering up the COM230.
- Ensure the correct supply voltage and then connect the power adaptor to a mains outlet.
- If an Aux input is connected, start playback, and gradually increase the Aux level control (7) to check the output through the speakers.
- To test the paging mic, press the Zone 1 and 2 select and Page buttons so that all 3 are lit (3, 4, 5).
- Gradually increase the Mic level control (8) whilst speaking into the microphone until the required output level is heard through the connected speakers.
- Note: speech through the microphone will cause the Aux signal level to be muted automatically.
- Once the Mic and Aux levels are set to the desired levels, press the Page button so that it is off (not lit)
- To page either zone independently, ensure that only that Zone select button (3 or 4) is lit before pressing the Page button. If both Zone select buttons are lit, paging will address all speakers.
- Ensure Aux signal is turned down and Page button is off before powering down to avoid loud noises.
