Introduction

The RFD40 Sled provides Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag reading, writing, and locating capability to Zebra’s TC20 Mobile Computer.
NOTE The RFD40 RFID sled is for use with the compatible version of the TC20 Mobile Computer only.

Inserting the Battery

NOTE Fully charge the RFD40 RFID Sled before initial use.
To install the battery:

  1. Align the battery with the notch facing the back of the device.
  2. Slide the battery into the handle of the device.
  3. Snap the battery into place.

Device Installation

Inserting the TC20 into the RFD40 Sled
To secure the TC20 Mobile Computer to the RFD40 Sled, place the TC20 fully forward on the RFD40 sled base and push the TC20 down into the Retention Clips.

Removing the TC20 into the RFD40 Sled

To remove the TC20 Mobile Computer from the RFD40 Sled, firmly hold the sled handle, and lift the TC20 off of the sled base.

Getting Started

To use the RFD40 for the first time with the TC20 Mobile Computer:

  1. Charge the RFD40 Sled in the charging cradle.
  2. Attach the TC20 on the RFD40 Sled.
  3. Set the region and power level (using the RFID Manager application, RFID Demo application, or the partner application).

Software

Using RFID Manager for Android /RFID Demo
NOTE The Zebra RFID Manager for the Android application must be installed before the RFID Demo application.

To use the RFID Manager / Zebra RFID Demo for RFID operations:

  1.  Ensure that the RFID Manager for Android is installed on the TC20. The Zebra RFID Demo can be installed after RFID The manager is installed and verified.
  2. Launch either application on the TC20.
  3. Connect the RFD40. Both applications automatically connect to the RFD40 upon start. RFID Manager shows the battery status in the Main page. RFID Demo shows the device connected in Settings > Readers List.
  4. Before using the device for the first time, set the region in which the device is operating. To set the region using RFID Manager, select Regulatory on the Main page. To set the region using RFID Demo, open the application and select Settings > Regulatory.

NOTE The Zebra RFID Manager for the Android application must be installed before the RFID Demo application.

Charging

The RFD40 RFID Sled and TC20 Mobile Computer may be charged in the charging cradle individually or attached together. Fully charge the RFD40 by placing it in the charging cradle before first use. When an RFD40 RFID Sled is removed from a charging cradle, it is automatically powered On. If a reader is not used for a duration of thirty minutes, the reader enters Off mode. Pressing the handle trigger for two seconds turns the reader back On.

NOTE The battery charge status LED Indicator stays On for four seconds when the RFD40 RFID Sled is removed from the charging cradle.
