Step 3: Getting started
- Push the POWER button on the rear panel to the OFF position (pushed out).
- Turn the VOLUME and all TRIM controls to the far-left position.
- Push all SOURCE SELECT, MONITOR SELECT, and routing switches to the out position.
- Connect the included power cable to the input on the back panel.
- Connect the USB from your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) to your computer.
- Connect active monitors or passive monitors via powered amp to the MONITOR OUT jacks A, B, and C (C STUDIO XL only).
- Connect a headphone distribution amplifier to the rear STUDIO/PHONES AMP output jacks (STUDIO XL only).
- Connect the 2-TRACK outputs to external recording devices to record the signal coming out of your INPUTS.
- Please go to www.behringer.com to get the latest Windows driver for the STUDIO series. Mac users don’t need to install any driver. To record Input 1 and 2 into a DAW via USB, press the REC SRC SEL button on the back of the unit. USB can still be used as a source at the same time without being recorded. To record the 2-track output, which is a combination of all sources, set the REC SRC SEL button out to 2-TR mode.
- On STUDIO XL, CUE SOURCE can be set to AUX MIX (CUE IN), selected 2-TR SOURCE, or DAW OUTPUTS 3/4 via USB.
Setting the levels
- With all external sources turned down or off, push the POWER button to the ON position.
- Turn on external powered speakers, passive speaker amplifiers, and headphone amplifiers.
- Select which monitor source you wish to hear by pushing the A, B, or C (C STUDIO XL only) button on the top panel.
- Play a song from your DAW to test and adjust monitor levels. Adjust the monitor out TRIM level controls if necessary.
- Adjust the gain on the selected input channel using its TRIM control. Gauge the amount of gain necessary by observing the level meter on the top panel.
- Turn the VOLUME control up slowly. If the volume is lower than expected, adjust the TRIM control for the monitor option you selected (A, B or C).
- If you have a headphone amplifier connected to the rear STUDIO/PHONES AMP output jacks, set the input level as required. Gradually turn up the volume on your headphone amplifier to an appropriate level
- Each of the PHONES jacks on the front of the unit has dedicated volume control. Connect a pair of headphones to either of the phones jacks and adjust volume to preference.
- To set the level for recording back to your DAW or external recording device, select the input source you wish to send on the top panel (deselect any other input sources to avoid potential feedback loop). Connect the 2-TRACK on the back panel to your external recording device and set the output level with the +4/-10 switch.
- The built-in TALKBACK microphone signal can be routed to the CUE bus on both the STUDIO L and XL headphones 1/2 or to the 2-Track outputs (STUDIO XL only). Push the button of the destination you wish to address, then speak into the MIC. Make any adjustments to the signal by adjusting the TALKBACK control.
- To adjust the volume of the speakers connected to the STUDIO OUT jacks, press the output button ON and turn the STUDIO OUT control on the top panel (STUDIO XL only).
