Olywiz HTD-828 Two Way Radio User Manual

CAUTION

• Do not use the radio in area where government law prohibited.
• Do not use the radio in gas station, airport or places where using radio is prohibited.
• Do not expose the radio to long period of direct sunlight, nor place it close to heating appliances.
• Do not place the radio in excessively dusty and/or humid areas, nor on unstable surface.
• Do not expose the radio to rain or moisture; to prevent fire or electric shock.
• If you detect an abnormal odor or smoke coming from the radio, turn off the radio or remove the battery from the radio immediately. Contact Olywiz Customer Service Center immediately.
• Maintenance should only be attempted by professional technicians.

Unpack and Check Equipment

Carefully unpack the radio. We recommend that you identify the items listed in the following table before discarding the packing material. If any items are missing or have been damaged during shipment, file a claim with the carrier immediately.

Preparation

Charge the battery pack

1. Connect the AC adapter to the charging port of desktop charger, then plug the other end of the AC adapter to a wall outlet or power strip (100-240V ~50/60Hz). The GREEN LED will light, indicating the charger is being supplied with power.

2. Turn off your radio, place the battery alone or with the radio into the charger.
   Be sure the battery is well connected with the charger contacts.

3. When the battery or radio has been put into the desktop charger, the LED will turn to RED and remain solidly on. This is an indicator that the battery is charging. Charging time depends on the battery capacity. Once the battery is completely charged, the GREEN LED light will remain on solidly.
   

Install/remove the battery pack

To install the battery: Take out the radio, slide the battery down onto the back of the radio, then push up the battery latch until it locks into place. (Figure 1)

To remove the battery: Turn off the radio; then unlock the battery latch and take out the battery from the radio. (Figure 2)

Note :

• When charging, please turn off the transceiver to make sure the battery fully charged.
• When temperature above 35C or under -10’C, battery may not get fully charged.
• Don’t short out metal terminals of battery or throw battery into fire, Don’t disassemble battery.

Install the antenna

Hold the antenna at the base, rotate clockwise into the threaded connector on the top of the radio. ( Figure3 )

Note: Do not over tighten to prevent damage of the antenna.

Install/remove the belt clip

Remove the screws on the back of the radio; align the belt clip with the screw holes on the radio, then tighten the screws.
To remove the belt clip, loosen the screws and take out the belt clip, then tighten the screws back to the radio.( Figure 4 )

Install the optional speakers/microphone

Pull out the rubber cover (marked with SP/MIC), insert the accessory plug into the speaker/mic jack. ( Figure 5 )

Note :Be sure the accessory plug well contacted with the jack.

Auxiliary Functions

Squelch Level Setting

The squelch level can be set via programming software, range from 0-9. Default : 4. If the squelch level set too high, weak signal won’t be received. If the squelch level set to low, background noise will emit from speaker while receiving a signal.

Time-out Timer (TOT)

This function is to avoid long period of occupying a channel. When user transmits a call over the preset time, the radio will beep and automatically stop transmitting. To resume to Work Mode, release the PTT button. If the pre- alarm TOT function is on, the radio will beep to alert users to the expiration of TOT in advance without affecting the communication until the preset time of TOT is up.
Note: The limited time of TOT can be set via programming software. (Default limited time: 60 seconds)

Voice Prompt

Voice prompt from the speaker announce the channel number. You can change voice prompts using the Function button. Rotate to Channel 15, then power off the radio; press and hold down the Function button while power on the radio to switch the language.
This radio has English and Chinese voice prompt.

Note: There are three modes of voice prompt (English Mode, Chinese Mode, Silent Mode). When you change to Silent Mode, all “beeps” and “tones” are disabled.

Monitor

When there is no signal received, the squelch circuit in the radio will mute the speaker automatically, and no background noise will be heard. Press and hold Monitor button, background noise will be heard while enter Monitor Mode. Monitor function can be used to adjust the volume level of the radio when no signal is received; also can be used to check activity of the current channel when the signal is too weak.

Scan Function

Scan Function enables your radio to scan for active channels. To enter:

• Step 1: Turn on Scan Function: switch to Channel 15, then power off the radio; long
  press the PTT button while power on the radio, your radio will beep two times and turn on Scan function.

• Step 2: When Scan Function is on, switch to Channel 15, your radio will beep one time and enter Scan Mode automatically.
  When activity is detected, your radio stays on that channel. To transmit on that channel, press PTT button. Your radio will resume scanning after 3 seconds when the channel is no longer active.
  To exit from Scan Mode, repeat the same procedure as Step 1, your radio will beep one time to confirm.

FM Radio Function (Optional)

With the radio off, long press Monitor button while power on the radio again, your radio will  beep two times while enter FM Radio Mode. Press Monitor button to search up, and long press Function button to exit.

Power Saving

When no signal is received /transmitted or no operation for 5 seconds, the radio will automatically enter Battery Saving mode to reduce power consumption. The radio will exit from Battery Saving Mode when receiving a signal or any operation of the button.

Low Battery Alert

When the battery level is too low, your radio will beep every 10 seconds to alert you to recharge the battery in time.

CTCSS/DCS

This radio has CTCSS/DCS Privacy Code(PC programmable). You can use the privacy code on channel 1-15. The code for each channel must be different. To communicate, all radios in your group must be set on the same channel and have same privacy code.
Transmission on same frequency with different privacy code won’t be received by your radio.
Note: Privacy Code can only be set via programming software.

Basic Operation

Turning the radio on/off

Rotate the Power/Volume Knob clockwise/counterclockwise to turn the radio on/off. The radio will beep when power on. (Figure 6)

Flashlight

Press and hold key for 2 seconds to turn on/off. (Figure 7)

Transmitting/Receiving

To communicate, press and hold the PTT button and speak in a normal voice into the microphone.
The RED LED will light while transmitting.
To receive a call, release the PTT button. The GREEN LED will light when a signal is received. (Figure 8)

Note:

1. When the battery level is ultra-low, the radio cannot make a transmission.
2. Hold the radio 2 to 3 inches from your mouth.

Adjusting the Volume

When key then no signal rotating is received, the power/volume pressing knob ▲ to adjust the volume.

Trouble-shooting Guide

battery.
Battery power dies shortly after charging.| The battery life is finished. Replace the battery.
Can not talk to or hear other members in your group.| Make sure all radios are using the same frequency and privacy code. Make sure you are within the range of other radio.
Other voice (not your group) are present on the channel.| Change the privacy code of all radios in your group.
Short Communication Range.| Adjust the transmitting power, or squelch level.
