PRECAUTIONS BEFORE USE

KEEP THESE INSTRUCTIONS IN MIND

  1. Do not cover or block any ventilation openings. When placing the device on a shelf, leave 5 cm (2”) free space around the whole device.

  2. Install in accordance with the supplied user manual.

  3. Keep the device away from heat sources such as radiators, heaters, stoves, candles, and other heat-generating products or naked flame. The apparatus can only be used in moderate climates. Extremely cold or warm environments should be avoided. Working temperature between 0° and 35° C.

  4. Avoid using the device near strong magnetic fields.

  5. Electrostatic discharge can disturb the normal usage of this device. If so, simply reset and restart the device following the instruction manual. During file transmission, please handle with care and operate in a static-free environment.

  6. Warning Never inserts an object into the product through the vents or openings. High voltage flows through the product and inserting an object can cause electric shock and/or short circuit internal parts. For the same reason, do not spill water or liquid on the product.

  7. Do not use in wet or moist areas such as bathrooms, steamy kitchens, or near swimming pools.

  8. The apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing and make sure that no objects filled with liquids, such as vases, are placed on or near the apparatus.

  9. Do not use this device when condensation may occur. When the unit is used in a warm wet room with damp, water droplets or condensation may occur inside the unit and the unit could maybe not work properly; let the unit stand in power OFF for 1 or 2 hours before turning on the power: the unit should be dry before getting any power.

  10. Although this device is manufactured with the utmost care and checked several times before leaving the factory, it is still possible that problems may occur, as with all electrical appliances. If you notice smoke, an excessive build-up of heat, or any other unexpected phenomena, you should disconnect the plug from the main power socket immediately.

  11. This device must operate on a power source as specified on the specification label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply used in your home, consult your dealer or local power company.

  12. Keep away from rodents. Rodents enjoy biting on power cords.

  13. To clean the device, use a soft dry cloth. Do not use solvents or petrol-based fluids. To remove severe stains, you may use a damp cloth with diluted detergent.

  14. The supplier is not responsible for damage or lost data caused by malfunction, misuse, modification of the device, or battery replacement.

  15. Do not interrupt the connection when the device is formatting or transferring files. Otherwise, data may be corrupted or lost.

  16. If the unit has a USB playback function, the USB memory stick should be plugged into the unit directly. Don’t use a USB extension cable because it can cause interference resulting in failure of data.

  17. The rating label has been marked on the bottom or back panel of the apparatus.

  18. This device is not intended for use by people (including children) with physical, sensory, or mental disabilities, or a lack of experience and knowledge unless they’re under supervision or have received instructions about the correct use of the device by the person who is responsible for their safety.

  19. This product is intended for nonprofessional use only and not for commercial or industrial use.

  20. Make sure the unit is adjusted to a stable position. Damage caused by using this product in an unstable position vibrations or shocks or by failure to follow any other warning or precaution contained within this user manual will not be covered by warranty.

  21. Never remove the casing of this apparatus.

  22. Never place this apparatus on other electrical equipment. Do not allow children access to plastic bags.

  23. Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.

  24. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as the power supply cord or the plug, when the liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, when the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.

  25. Prolonged exposure to loud sounds from personal music players may lead to temporary or permanent hearing loss.

  26. If the product is delivered with a power cable or AC power adaptor :

    • If any trouble occurs, disconnect the AC power card and refer servicing to qualified personnel.
    • To completely disconnect the power input, the main plug of the apparatus shall be disconnected from the mains, as the disconnect device is the main plug of the apparatus.
    • Don’t step on or pinch the power adaptor. Be very careful, particularly near the plugs and the cable’s exit point. Do not place heavy items on the power adaptor, which may damage it. Keep the entire device out of children’s reach! When playing with the power cable, they can seriously injure themselves.
    • Unplug this device during lightning storms or when unused for a long period.
    • The socket outlet must be installed near the equipment and must be easily accessible.
    • Do not overload ac outlets or extension cords. Overloading can cause fire or electric shock.
    • Devices with class 1 construction should be connected to a main socket outlet with a protective earthed connection.
    • Devices with class 2 construction do not require an earthed connection.
    • Always hold the plug when pulling it out of the main supply socket. Do not pull the power cord. This can cause a short circuit.
    • Do not use a damaged power cord or plug or a loose outlet. Doing so may result in fire or electric shock.
  27. If the product contains or is delivered with a remote control containing coin/cell batteries:
    Warning:

    • “Do not ingest battery, Chemical Burn Hazard” or equivalent working.
    • [The remote control supplied with] This product contains a coin/button cell battery is swallowed, it can cause severe internal burns in just 2 hours and can lead to death.
    • Keep new and used batteries away from children.
    • If the battery compartment does not close securely, stop using the product and keep it away from children.
    • If you think batteries might have been swallowed or placed inside any part of the body, seek immediate medical attention.
  28. Caution about the use of Batteries:

    • Danger of explosion if the battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type.
    • The battery cannot be subjected to high or low extreme temperatures, or low air pressure at high altitudes during use, storage, or transportation.
    • Replacement of a battery with an incorrect type can result in an explosion or the leakage of flammable liquid or gas.
    • Disposal of a battery into fire or a hot oven, or mechanically crushing or cutting of a battery, can result in an explosion.
    • Leaving a battery in an extremely high temperature surrounding environment can result in an explosion or that leakage of flammable liquid or gas.
    • A battery is subjected to extremely low air pressure that may result in an explosion or the leakage of flammable liquid or gas.
    • Attention should be drawn to the environmental aspects of battery disposal.

INSTALLATION

  • Unpack all parts and remove protective material.
  • Do not connect the unit to the mains before checking the mains voltage and before all other connections have been made.

Those instructions are related only to products using a power cable or AC power adaptors

Warning for MP3 player

  • When participating in the traffic listening to a personal music player can make the listener less aware of potential dangers such as approaching cars.
  • To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen to high volume levels for long periods.

This unit should not be adjusted or repaired by anyone except qualified service personnel.

Important:
Since the movement of the CD mechanism and the sensitive circuitry may cause interference to the radio tuner nearby, switch this unit off while operating other radio devices
Precautions for use

Installation

  • Unpack all parts and remove protective material.
  • Do not connect the unit to the mains before checking the main voltage and before all other connections have been made.
  • Do not cover any vents and make sure that there is a space of several centimeters around the unit for ventilation.

Connection

  1. Connect the DC plug of the included AC/DC adaptor to the DC jack (21) then the AC/DC adaptor connects to the AC outlet.
  2. When you first plug the unit into the mains, the unit will go into standby mode. Press the On/Standby button (2) to turn on the unit. The LCD display will lighten up and show the welcome text, indicating that the unit is ready for use.

DC connection
For DC operation, open the battery compartment and insert 8 size C/UM-2 batteries. When using batteries, unplug the AC cable from the AC socket.

Setting the clock

  1. Set unit in standby mode.
  2. Press the “Mem/Clk-Adj” button (4) once, the display will show “SET CLOCK”
  3. Then press the “Mem/Clk-Adj” button (4) again and the display will flash “24HR” press the Tune-Up or Tune Down button (17) to select the clock format between 12 or 24Hour. Then press the “Mem/Clk-Adj” button (4). The first digit (hours) of “0:00” is flashing on the LCD display (6). Press Tune-Up
  4. button (17) to set the correct hour. Press the “Mem/Clk-Adj” button (4) to store the correct hour.
  5. 5. The third & fourth digit (minutes) “00” is flashing, press the Tune Up or Tune Down button (17) to set the correct minutes. Then press the “Mem/Clk-Adj” button (4) to store the correct minute.
  • The clock setting mode will automatically quit if no button is within 5 seconds after pressing the “Mem/Clk-Adj” button.
  • If you press the on/off (2) while setting the time, the time setting mode will quit and no time settings will be stored.

Listening to radio Manual tuning

  1. Press the On/Standby button (2) to Switch on the unit. Then press the Function button (13) to select “Tuner” mode.
  2. Tune to the required station by pressing the Tuning Up or Down button (17).
  3. Press the Volume button (16) to the desired volume level.

Auto tuning

  1. Press the Function button (13) to select “Tuner” mode.
  2. Press and hold the Tuning Up or Down button (17) for 2-3 seconds and then release.
  3. The unit will start seeking automatically and stop until a radio station is reached.
  4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 until the desired radio station is being reached.
  5. Press the Volume button (16) to the desired volume level.

Preset stations

You can store up to 20 radio stations in the memory Set to tuner mode

  1. Turn to the desired radio station by the “Manual” or “Auto” tuning method.
  2. Press the Mem/Clk-Adj button (4) once and the “MEMORY” indicator and preset station number are flashes on the LCD display (6).
  3. Press the Folder/Pre-up/down button (15) to select the desired station memory for storage.
  4. Press Mem/Clk-Adj button (4) again to confirm the setting.
  5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 to store other stations.
  6. Now you can select the presets stations in order by pressing the Folder/Pre–up/down button (15)

Please Note:
The presets will not be remembered when the mains power is disconnected and no batteries are inserted. It’s best to keep the mains connected all the time.
When storing a preset, the program mode will discard any changes and return to normal mode automatically after 10 seconds. (When the preset is not stored by pressing Mem/Clk-Adj (4) within that time). You can overwrite a preset station by storing another frequency in its place.

FM-Stereo reception

  • Press the St/Mono button (7) repeatedly, to switch between forced MONO or AUTO mode. In particular, when stereo signals are weak, it is preferable to receive the program in Mono.
  • The default FM mode is configured as AUTO, so when the Radio stations are received in stereo, the stereo indicator “ ” will be shown on the LCD display (6).

Hints for best reception:
The radio is equipped with a telescopic antenna (20). Fully extend the antenna and rotate the antenna to a position with the best reception.

Playing Compact Disc

Getting start

  1. Press the Function button (13) to select “CD” mode.
  2. Press the top right corner of the cd door to open.
  3. Insert a CD with the label facing up and close the cd door.
  4. The CD content will be read and the LCD display (6) will show the total number of tracks and the total playtime. Playback will start automatically.
  5. Press the volume button (16) until the desired volume level is reached.

Play/Pause mode

  1. To temporarily stop music playing, press the Play/Pause button (8) once.
  2. The playtime on the LCD display (6) will freeze.
  3. Press the Play/Pause button (8) again to resume the music play.

Stop mode

  1. If the Stop button (7) is pressed during play or pause mode, the system will go to stop mode.

Skip mode (Tune (Skip) forward /Tune (Skip) backward )

  1. When playing a cd press the tune (17) button to skip to the next track.
  2. Press the Tune button (17) to skip to the previous track

For MP3 Disc

  1. This CD player can play mp3 CDs. When an mp3 cd is inserted, the total number of tracks will be shown on the LCD display (6) and MP3 play will start automatically.
  2. Press Pre/folder-Up/Down button (15) and select the folder number.
  3. Press the Tune or Tune button (17) to select the tracking number.

MP3 track format requirement:

  • Bit rate: 32 kbps~320kbps, sampling rate: 32khz, 44.1khz, and 48 kHz decodable
  • The performance of playing MP3 Discs depends on the quality of the used disc and the method of recording. The Initial search time on MP3CDs is longer than on audio CDs due to the different formats.

Repeat/Random mode
By pressing play mode (3) during playback you can select different play modes.

For Audio disc

For MP3 Disc

Repeat play
Repeat play can repeat one single track or whole disc.

Random play
Random Play will play the content in random order.

CD programming
Up to 20 tracks can be programmed for disc play in any order. Before use, be sure to press the Stop button (7).

  1. Set in CD mode & stop the CD playback.
  2. Press the “Mem/Clk-Adj” button (4) and MEMORY will appear on the LCD display (6).
  3. Select the desired track by pressing the Tune or Tune button (17).
  4. Press the “Mem/Clk-Adj” button (4) to store the track in memory.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to add additional tracks if necessary.
  6. When all the desired tracks have been programmed, press the Play/Pause button (8) to play the disc in the programmed order.
  7. Press Stop button (7) to stop playback, press the Stop button again to clear all programmed tracks.

The programming mode will automatically stop if no button is being pressed in a period of about 10 seconds after pressing the Mem/Clk-Adj (4) button.

Playback of MP3 songs from USB memory stick

The system is able to decode and playback MP3 music files stored on a USB memory stick.

  1. Press the Function button (13) until the display shows “USB”.
  2. Plugin the USB pen drive and make sure it is inserted correctly.
    • NOTE: Connecting the USB memory stick in the wrong way can damage the audio system or your USB memory stick. Please check before inserting it into the USB port of the audio device
  3. The audio system will read the content of the USB media and starts playback automatically. The LCD display (6) will show the track number and playback time.
  4. Playback functions are the same as the MP3 CDs mentioned earlier.

Remark

  • This system is designed to play mp3 encoded files only.
  • If you connect an mp3 player to the system’s USB port, it may happen that some mp3 players cannot play via USB. This is not a malfunction of your SCD-580
  • The USB port doesn’t support a connection with USB extension cables and can’t connect to a computer directly.

Removing of USB
To remove the USB, turn off the power or switch the function mode to either CD, Aux, or Tuner first. Unplug the USB by pulling it out from the USB socket directly, straightly without bending.

Bluetooth operation

Pairing a Bluetooth-enabled device with the system

  1. Place the Bluetooth-enabled device for pairing and close to the system
  2. Press the Function button (13) to select the BT function at the main unit and the text “BT” will appear on the LCD display (6) For a short time. Then it will change to a flashing “Pairing”
  3. Set the Bluetooth-enabled device to search for other available Bluetooth devices until it recognizes “Lenco SCD-580”.
  4. Select “Lenco SCD-580” to start pairing.
  5. Wait until the pairing has been completed. The display will show “BT” again.
  6. Now you can start playback of the music on your device through this system to enjoy the music. 1) BT music play can be controlled with the Play/Pause (8), and Tune / Down (17).
  7. To stop using the active Bluetooth device, turn off the Bluetooth device. The LCD display (6) on the unit will now change to a flashing “PAIRING” and it now can connect to another Bluetooth device.

Aux-in connection

You can connect an external audio device to the unit by connecting it to the 3,5mm AUX-in jack (11).

  1. Press the Function button (13) to select “AUX” mode.
  2. Start to playback your external device
  3. Set the volume to the desired level. If you experience sound distortion, reduce the volume of your external device.

More features

Sleep function

  1. Press the Sleep button (14) “SLP-OFF” will show on the LCD display (6).
  2. Keep pressing the button to adjust the sleep timer in the order of 90 > 80 > 70 >….10 minutes respectively and the sleep icon “SLEEP” will flash on the LCD.
  3. The system will stop and go into standby mode automatically after running the selected time. After selecting the desired sleep time, the “sleep” indicator will stop flashing, which means the sleep timer is activated.
  4. To cancel the sleep mode, press the Sleep/Timer button (14) until “SLP-OFF” is displayed. The “sleep” indication on the LCD display (6) will disappear.

Timer setting
This function allows the system to turn on automatically and wake you up by CD, FM, or USB mode.

  1. Press and hold the Sleep/Timer (14) to enter the timer Settings mode. The LCD display (6) will show “On Timer” and a clock icon.
  2. Press the Timer button (14) again or wait until the “ON TIMER” message disappears. The first two digits of the clock will flash, and the first two digits of the clock will flash, Now press Tune or Tune the hour. Press the Timer button (14) again to confirm.
  3. Now the last two digits of the clock will flash, press the Tune or Tune button (17) to set the minutes, and press the Timer button (14) again to confirm.
  4. Press the Volume – + (16) button to adjust the wake-up volume level and press the Sleep/Timer (14) button to confirm the volume level.
  5. Press the Function button (13) to select the wake-up mode. You can choose CD, FM, or USB. Press the Sleep/Timer button (14) to confirm.
  6. On the LCD display “Off Timer” will flash. Press the Sleep/Timer (14) button or wait until the “off timer” message disappears. The first two digits of the clock will flash.
  7. Press the Tune or Tune button (17) to set the hour. Press the Timer button (14) again to confirm.
  8. The last two digits of the clock will flash.
  9. Press the Tune or Tune button (17) to set the minutes and press the Timer button (14) again to confirm.
  10. The unit will then turn to standby mode with a clock icon appearing on the LCD display.
  11. The unit will automatically turn on and off at the preset time with the selected mode and volume level.

Remark:

  • If there is no music source detected (such as USB or CD) at the configured time, the system will use the FM mode at the last used frequency/Preset.
  • For Tuner wake-up, the system will use the FM mode at the last used frequency/Preset.
  • There are about 4 seconds for alarm setting mode, this system will return to normal mode automatically if no keys are pressed in this time frame.
  • During the alarm on mode, pressing the On/Standby button (2) will switch off the system.

Enable/Disable timer function

  1. To activate the alarm function, press the TIMER button (14) repeatedly to select “ON” or “OFF”. The clock icon will appear on the LCD display if the function is turned on. Otherwise, the clock icon will be disappeared from the LCD display.

Equalizer (EQ) function
The SCD-580 comes with 4 different sound modes to enhance your listening experience. By pressing the preset EQ button (9) you can choose the following modes:

Due to the ERP Stage 2 requirements (see below) for power-saving measures, a unit that is connected to the mains power will switch itself to standby mode automatically if no music has been playing for over 15 minutes. If your unit switches off regularly, this is no defect Power supply adaptor (For EU only)
