Positioning the Clip
-
For MX2306/MX2307 loggers: Slide the verification clip onto the two prongs with the arrow pointing toward the sensor.
For RXW TEROS sensors -
Slide the clip onto the two prongs farthest away from the sensor cable with the arrow pointing toward the sensor as shown. WARNING: Risk of personal injury is present. Sensor needle points are extremely sharp and will puncture skin. Handle with care.
-
Make sure the clip rests snugly against the sensor body as shown. (The example shows the RXW TEROS Sensor.)
-
For MX2306/MX2307 Loggers:
In the main HOBOconnect screen, view the current soil moisture reading. The readings should be in the following ranges: -
If the logger is set for the Mineral Soil Type, the readings should be between 0.36 and 0.42 m3/m3.
-
If the logger is set for the Soilless Soil Type, the readings should be between 0.45 and 0.51 m3/m3.
-
If you do not remember what soil type the logger is set to, connect to the logger and check its configuration.
If the readings are not within that range, check the positioning of the clip (see steps 1 and 2). If the readings are still not within the desired range, you may need to replace the logger.
For RXW T11 and T12 sensors
-
1. Go to the station page in HOBOlink®, select Module/Sensor Configuration, and select Module <1 or 2>: Wireless Sensors Logging from the left menu. Change the logging interval to 1 minute and click Save. If your station does not support that logging interval, then change it to the fastest interval allowed by the communication plan.
2. Press the Connect button on the station so that the new logging interval set in HOBOlink is downloaded to the station.
3. After the station disconnects from HOBOlink, make sure it is logging. If it is not, press the Start button.
4. Wait for a couple of minutes to allow the logger or station to log data at the new logging interval with the clip installed (you may need to wait longer if using a slower logging interval on a station with RXW TEROS sensors).
5. Press the Connect button on the station to upload data to HOBOlink and then go to the station page to view the current conditions. -
6. The readings for the soil moisture sensor should be between0.332 and 0.363 m3/m3. If the readings are within that range, the sensor is functioning correctly. Remove the clip and change the logging interval as needed.
If the readings are not within that range, double-check the positioning of the clip as described in Positioning the Clip. If the readings are still not within the desired range, then the sensor may need to be replaced.\
