DANGER:

To reduce the risk of injury, the user must read and understand this operator’s manual as well as the operator’s manual for their pressure washer before using this product. Failure to follow all warnings and precautions may result in death, serious personal injury, or property damage.

IMPORTANT SAFETY WARNINGS

  • Keep at least 50 feet away from power lines. Do not touch or aim spray at electrical wiring of any kind.
  • Do not extend or retract the telescoping pole or change nozzles or accessories while spray-ing or while the wand is under pressure. Turn off the pressure washer, shut off the water supply, point the nozzle in a safe direction, and pull the trigger to release water pressure before making any changes.
  • Do not use the telescoping pole while on a ladder or scaffolding.
  • When using the telescoping pole at any position less than fully extended, make sure the high pressure hose is located so that it will not be stepped on, tripped over, or otherwise subjected to damage or stress. Keep the hose clear of the working area.
  • Do not exceed the maximum rated pressure, volume, or temperature listed in the product specifications.
  • Do not remove or alter any warning labels included on the telescoping pole.
  • Before beginning operation, make certain the area you plan to work in is clear of obstruc-tions or hazards.
  • Maintain proper balance and control of telescoping pole at all times.
  • To minimize the risk of kickback, grip the telescoping pole firmly with both hands. A firm grip together with a stiff arm will help you maintain control of the telescoping pole if kickback occurs.

ASSEMBLING THE TELESCOPING POLE AND BRUSH ACCESSORY

See Figures 1 – 3. RYOBI RY31EP26 18 Inch Pressure Washer Telescoping
Extension Pole-FIG2
To assemble the telescoping pole:
NOTE: For easier assembly, lay each pole section out on the ground before beginning. Take care to avoid kinking the hose during assembly.

  • Open the lock levers on each section of the telescoping pole.
  • Place the center sections of the telescoping pole into the opening on the trigger handle sec-tion, starting with the largest diameter piece and ending with the smallest diameter piece. Close the lock lever on each section once installed.
  • Feed the hose on the brush accessory mount section down through the middle of the assembled pole and trigger handle sections so that it exits from the base of the trigger handle as shown in fig. 2.
  • Remove the U-clip from the plastic bag attached to the trigger handle.
  • Insert the hose fitting into the water outlet and install the U-clip to secure the hose in place. Make sure the U-clip is fully seated.
NOTE: If necessary, use a hammer to lightly tap the U-clip to ensure it is fully seated.

To install the brush accessory:

  • Make sure the lock nut is fully installed on the threaded end of the brush accessory mount.
  • Open the lock lever on the brush accessory mount, slide it away from the trigger handle as far as possible, then close the lock lever to secure as shown in fig. 3.
  • Align the hole on the brush with the threaded end of the brush accessory mount and rotate the brush clockwise to install. Continue to turn the brush until it is fully installed and at the desired angle.
  • Turn the lock nut counterclockwise until it stops to secure the brush in place.

NOTE: Other accessories may be commercially available that can be used with this telescoping pole by fitting on either the locking tab or the threaded end. Follow all manufacturer’s instructions for the accessory being installed to assemble and use. The lock nut features a flat side and a tapered side. If you are using an accessory other than the brush provided, make sure to orient the lock nut to best fit the accessory you are using.
NOTE: If you plan to use the extension pole while the brush is not installed, open the lock lever on the brush accessory mount, slide it down as far as possible toward the trigger handle, then close the lock lever to secure. This will protect the threads on the brush accessory mount during operation.

CONNECTING THE SHOULDER STRAP

See Figure 4.
The telescoping pole comes with an adjustable shoulder strap to ensure user comfort and ease of operation. The shoulder strap should be installed and adjusted to a comfortable position before operating the telescoping pole.
To install:

  • Place the shoulder strap over your shoulder.
  • Clip the buckle of the shoulder strap onto the clip bracket as shown.

To adjust:

  • To change the position of the clip bracket, loosen the knob, slide the bracket up or down the pole as desired, then re-tighten the knob securely.
  • To tighten the shoulder strap, pull down on the loose end of the strap.

USING THE TELESCOPING POLE

See Figures 5 – 6.

WARNING:

To reduce the risk of electrocution, possible serious personal injury or property damage, spray the pressure stream in a safe direction away from all electrical devices and bystanders. Ensure proper connection of all accessories before starting any cleaning project. Fits most pressure washers. Ensure compatibility and proper fit before us-ing this accessory. Wear eye protection with side shields marked to comply with Z87.1. Risk of fluid injections; do not point at people, pets, electrical devices or the unit itself. Turn off the pressure washer before changing or adjusting accessories. For cold water use only. For outdoor use only – store indoors. Save these instructions. Refer to them frequently and use them to instruct other users. If you loan someone this tool, loan them these instructions also.

WARNING:

Do not use pivoting nozzles when using the telescoping pole. Pivoting nozzles can increase the risk of kickback and could result in possible serious personal injury.

  • The trigger handle features a lock button to prevent unin-tentional use. To lock, slide the lock toward the trigger so the lock symbol is shown. To unlock, slide the lock away from the trigger so the unlock symbol is shown.
NOTE: Always engage the trigger lock before moving or adjusting the telescoping pole.

  • Connect the high pressure hose of your pressure washer to the inlet coupler on the telescoping pole.
NOTE: The inlet coupler on the telescoping pole is designed to connect to a threaded connector on your pressure washer’s high pressure hose. If your high pressure hose has a quick connect coupler instead, install the adaptor provided before connecting to the telescoping pole.

  • The telescoping pole can be used retracted, extended, or at any point in between. To adjust the length of any of the poles, open the lock lever, move the pole to the desired length, then close the lock lever to secure. If the lock levers become difficult to close or become too loose and won’t secure the pole, see Adjusting the Lock Levers later in this manual.
NOTE: Never fully extend the poles. Do not extend beyond the lines marked on the poles. This allows 4 in. of pole to remain inside the next section to help provide stability dur-ing operation.

  • Before attempting to use the telescoping pole on your project, move away from the project area and extend the pole to 50% of its available length. Depress the trigger to release a stream of water so that you can get a feel for how the unit will perform during use.

  • The telescoping pole will kickback when the trigger is re-leased and/or pressure is lost. Before releasing the trigger, move the nozzle at least 10 feet away from the surface being cleaned and make sure you have solid footing.

WARNING:

The telescoping pole will flex as pressure is added or lost. Fully understand how the pole moves when adding or lessening pressure before attempting a cleaning project. If you are not completely comfortable with the movement of the pole under changing pressure conditions, do not use this product. Loss of control of the telescoping pole could result in possible serious personal injury.

  • Adjust the height of the telescoping pole as needed to fit your project requirements.

WARNING:

Lengthen the telescoping pole only as much as necessary for the project you are attempting and remain in full control of the telescoping pole at all times. Loss of control of the telescoping pole could result in possible serious personal injury.

  • Move to the project area, raise the pole and aim toward the area to be cleaned. Squeeze the trigger to begin spraying.
  • When placing the pole on the ground, make sure to set it on the ground gently to avoid breaking any of the plastic components or accessories.

ADJUSTING THE LOCK LEVERS

The clamping force should require some resistance to lock the lever securely into position. The lock levers should hold the pole securely when in the locked position and should allow the pole to move freely when in the unlocked position. Over time, a lever may need adjustment to maintain its securely locked position.

  • Place the lever in the unlocked position.
  • Using a Phillips screwdriver (not included), turn the adjusting screw clockwise to tighten the lock lever or counterclock-wise to loosen it.
  • Place the lever in the locked position and be sure it securely locks the extension pole in place.

STORAGE

It is not necessary to disassemble the product for storage. For compact storage, open the lock levers and collapse the pole sections into each other. Close each lock lever to secure in place.
NOTE: Avoid kinking the hose during storage to extend the life of the product.
