YAMAHA SSHK721 Direct-Fit Cab Heater with Defrost

STEP 1: PRE-INSTALLATION

  1. Remove the hood cover.

  2. Remove the entire driver seat (12mm), the passenger seat pad and the main center console (PIC01).

  3. Remove the driver seat panel, the upper firewall panel and the 3 center console panels shown in the middle (PIC02).

  4. • You will need a socket extension to reach (2) bolts holding the center console in place. We want to draw attention to these because they are tougher to see (PIC03).

  5. Drain the coolant from the system. There are access holes underneath the machine where you can remove the plugs from the radiator lines. Make sure to locate the radiator lines before doing this, do not accidentally drain the oil line (toward the driver side).

STEP 2: INSTALL LOUVERS AND RUN DUCT

  1. Cut the supplied 2.5” duct into two equal runs (approx. 48” each).

  2. Cut the supplied 2.0” duct into four lengths of 18”, 18”, 28” and 28”.

  3. Connect the 2.5” step up adapters to the two Duct Y’s.

  4. Zip tie the two runs of 2.5” duct to the two Duct Y’s.

  5. Loosen the bolts and plastic rivets holding the driver side floor molding in place so you can pull the molding back and run ONE run of 2.5” duct (PIC04).

  6. The second run of duct will run through the center console (PIC05).

  7. Using the circle louver templates provided in the instructions, tape the cutouts in the locations shown (PIC06) (PIC07) and use a small drill bit to pilot holes for the hole-saw.

  8. Using a 2.5” hole-saw drill out the (2) holes for the floor louvers.

  9. Install the floor louvers by screwing off the back adapter and setting the face in the hole (PIC06) (PIC07). Now screw on the back adapter and install the duct clips on the adapters.

  10. Connect the (2) runs of 18” duct to the adapters of both floor louvers and connect them to one of the Duct Y’s (PIC08).

  11. Using the defrost vent templates provided, set the cut-out on the factory location for the defrost vents and trace the vent opening and screw holes (PIC09).

  12. Using a ½” drill bit, drill two openings on the edges of the vent opening, then use a razor blade knife to cut the full opening (PIC10).

  13. Use a 1/8” drill bit to make opening for the two screws (PIC10).

  14. Place the vent adapter on the backside of the dash panel and place the grill on the front of the dash panel. Use the screws to go through the grill and into the adapter (PIC11).

  15. Connect the (2) runs of 28” duct to the adapters of both defrost vents (PIC12) and connect them to the other Duct Y (PIC08).

    • WAIT to reinstall the panel until the end of the install, you will need access here for the wiring step.

STEP 3: SPLICE INTO THE COOLANT LINES

  1. Set the heater in place, but DO NOT mount the bracket until STEP 5 (PIC13).

  2. Cut the heater hose into pieces of 5-feet and 2-feet.

  3. Using clamps, pinch off the lower (return) radiator line on each side of where you will make your cut (PIC14).

  4. Make the cut into the line and install a Y-Fitting, secure with the hose clamps provided.
    ▪ Make sure the splice fitting is point “up”. We want it pointing toward the radiator because we want the coolant to re-enter the radiator line keeping flow with the direction the coolant is running as it returns to the engine.

  5. Run the 5-foot piece of heater hose from the highest heater fitting (relative to gravity) to the return line Y-Fitting, trim as needed and secure with the hose clamps provided.

  6. Using clamps, pinch off the upper (inlet) radiator line on each side of where you will make your cut (PIC15) (PIC16). This is done from the driver seat area.

  7. Make the cut into the line and install a Y-Fitting, secure with the hose clamps provided.

  8. Run the 2-foot piece of hose from the lowest heater box fitting (relative to gravity) to the inlet line Y-Fitting, trim as needed and secure with the hose clamps provided.

STEP 4: WIRING

  1. Install the rocker switch into a factor switch plate opening.

  2. Using the wiring harness, plug the switch connecter into the back of the rocker switch.

  3. Using the wiring harness, plug the OE connector into a Factory Accessory plug located behind the dash (PIC17).

  4. Connect the white blower connector (yellow/orange wires) to the heater blower.

STEP 5: MOUNTING THE HEATER

  1. With the heater in place, use 2 self-tapping screws to (PIC13) to mount the rear bracket.

  2. From the top of the panel, use a self-tapping screw to mount the front bracket (PIC18).

  3. Connect the 2 runs of duct to the heater box and secure with the zip ties provided.

  4. Test the blower, then re-install all machine panels.

STEP 6: REFILL COOLANT

  1. Refill the coolant in the system and check for leaks.
  2. Start the machine and allow the engine to warm up and circulate the coolant.
  3. Drive the vehicle and put it under a good load, this will help expel air from the system.
  4. When done let the machine cool down, recheck the coolant level and refill if needed.
  5. Coolant will be consumed as the air is expelled from the system. You may need to run the machine and recheck fluid levels multiple times before working out all of the air.
