  I have no idea. The only purpose I see for it is that it holds the 2 wires (sides) together. I found no way for it to be adjusted if that is what it is for.

  Just order a pair that is for the HD 10. I order a black pair and plugged it into my HD 10 and works as advertised.

  It should. They fit my wife’s Fire HD 7 and my Fire HD 8, which have stereo mini-jacks. They worked very well for listening to audio books.
